Chapter 7: Teamwork

Jimin allowed Jungkook to review the formula as he watched over Jungkook adjust it and add in a few more mixtures onto the sequence. Jimin was surprised Jungkook knew so much. Just in high school, he never worked hard in biology like this. Jungkook never showed interest, but who knew he kept it all a secret?

Jungkook passed the paper to Jimin and looked up at Jimin in the eyes. "Take a look..."

Jimin fixed his glasses and held up the paper to read off the formula. Everything seemed to be in place and this was for the research on corals, trying to save them from extinction. Jimin stared at the work and double checked it so he could verify it. "All seems to be in the right place.. You changed my mixture?" Jimin questioned as Jungkook nodded with a smile.

"That mixture was very poisonous. It could have been deadly to the coral." Jungkook added as Jimin looked at the page again. "And deadly to the life around it."

"I see. You're very intelligent, Mr. Jeon." Jimin giggled as the younger smiled to himself happily. Glad he was able to prove his intelligence to Jimin like that.

"Thank you. You're very smart yourself, Mr. Park." Jungkook added as Jimin stood up and fixed his lab coat.

"Let's go make out." Jimin added as Jungkook stood up and started to laugh, making Jimin think on what he said again.

" 'Make out', Mr. Park?" Jungkook laughed as Jimin quickly shook his head repeatedly.

"No! I meant to say, Let's go make the mixture!" Jimin claimed as he grabbed Jungkook's hand and dragged him out so they could walk to the chemical lab. Jungkook kept laughing as Jimin tried his best not to look back and show Jungkook he was blushing from the embarrassment.

"Make out?" Jungkook teased again causing Jimin to start laughing.

"Shut up!" Jimin laughed and walked into the chemical lab where he made sure the doors were closed. Jimin let go of Jungkook's hand and looked back at the boy. "Set the jokes aside, Mr. Jeon." Jimin claimed and walked up to the gloves to place them on and goggles too. "Hurry up so we can get this done. I don't like staying here until night."

"I hear you loud and clear, Park." Jungkook chuckled and placed on the gloves along with the goggles and apron. "Apron too." Jungkook advised, making Jimin quickly put on the apron too.

Jimin brought out flasks and a small dish where he took out a jar of sea water and poured it onto the dish, looking back at Jungkook. "Well?" Jimin asked as Jungkook stopped leaning on the wall and stepped forward to help.

"I'm helping." Jungkook added with a smirk. "You're in a rush. Do you really want to go home? I thought you loved it here." Jungkook mentioned. Jimin then took out a few mixtures and acids looking back at Jungkook.

"I do love this job... At times.." Jimin chuckled as the younger smiled and examined the bottles before pouring a few of the harmless substances onto a small container. "You do know what you're doing.. Right?"

"Of course I know what I am doing. I made the formula." Jungkook added as he started to mix the substance and look at Jimin. "Have you ever looked into something other than corals..?"

"Yes. I looked into whales before. Mostly the ones washed up at shore. However, it's... Not a pretty sight." Jimin said and shuttered at the thought. "Not the best."

"Tell me what happened!" Jungkook laughed as he looked at Jimin while mixing.

"I have a feeling you already know what happens."

"I haven't learned about whales since high school! Tell me!" Jungkook laughed as Jimin cleared his throat.

"Well... When a whale is dead... It explodes." Jimin said as he closed his eyes. "I-It wasn't a good sight."

"Oh I know." Jungkook chuckled and looked down to the mixture and handed it over to Jimin. "Pour it."

Jimin smiled and poured the mixture into the small dish of salt water. "It was very disgusting. It was part of my research last year before I travelled to Mexico. I had to take the temperature of the whale, stiff skin and blubber. Blood sample and then.... It exploded! Ah, I was glad I wasn't too close. I had to cut it and the guts were flying everywhere!" Jimin mentioned as Jungkook kept laughing the whole time Jimin was telling about his experience.

             "Shouldn't you already know that?"

"It never occured to me that I'd be the one to cut open a dead whale! But out of all my researches... I think this one right here would be the most interesting. Going back underwater to take pictures of the deep sea and the corals." Jimin stated as he stopped mixing in water with the mixture and waited to see what would happen to the water.

"You're conducting this.. Right? You'll need to find a good sponser." Jungkook said as Jimin laughed and nodded his head.

"Of course I do! Seokjin is really good at negotiating. Yoongi and Seokjin are also part of our team. So, if we head out to test this, then you'll be with us too. The trip would take up to three to five months or so? Not sure. But it depends how long our test runs are." Jimin said, looking at the small dish of water. Reacting well to the mixture.

"What... Do we do after this?" Jungkook wondered as Jimin looked up at Jungkook in his eyes and blinked before looking down at the experiment after.

"We record what we see, run it through with our team and keep an eye on this thing. It takes a while..." Jimin said and looked at Jungkook again. "Takes a lot of patience."

"I can tell." Jungkook responded as he kept staring at the small dish. "I'm just glad we'll be able to leave early. I don't want to walk in the rain again and walking home with some light out is nice." Jungkook mentioned, catching Jimin's attention.

         "Don't you have a car?"

"Not yet. I have another job that's working at a restaurant. Currently saving up for any type of car really. Anything that would take me places." Jungkook responded.

"You can't be walking home everyday. It's too far!" Jimin worried and this made Jungkook start to laugh.

"I'm surprised you care, Park." Jungkook said and placed his arm around Jimin's shoulder, enough to make Jimin's eyes widen. "Do you like me?~"

Jimin moved Jungkook's hand away and stepped a bit far to fix his apron. "No, I... I'm trying to be nice. I think we make a good team and could... Possibly become good friends? I'm trying to put all of the drama behind me..." Jimin claimed. "So, friends..?"

"Of course! I don't mind. I do feel bad just looking back at the past. So, I'm glad we could become friends now. It would have been great if we could have got along before." Jungkook continued and sighed after. "I look forward to this research."

"Jungkook.. One last thing.. You don't have to walk home. I don't mind taking you home. Take it as another thank you." Jimin added with a smile. "I hope you don't mind."

"I appreciate that." Jungkook added as he looked at the time and back at the dish. "Let's record what we have now." Jungkook claimed and started to take off his apron. "This was pointless." Jungkook laughed as Jimin took off his goggles and placed on his glasses after. Soon, the two walked back to the lab where they wrote down observations.

Jimin kept looking at Jungkook's work to make sure it was right while Jungkook had to pause time to time so he could erase Jimin's work and write a correct description. This helped the two and they bonded after. It was almost like Jimin forgot the two were against each other while they were younger.

After work, Jimin gazed at the time, concluding around 8:46PM, showing he had time to head home. Jimin packed up his things as Jungkook took off his lab coat and placed on his jacket to head off with Jimin. Signing out for the day. Jimin looked up to see Seokjin packing up too and letting out a laugh.

"Finally heading home early?" Seokjin asked as Jimin nodded happily. "I told you giving him work would help. Now you get to go home to your Yun-se!" Seokjin claimed as Jimin looked at his suitcase and closed it shut.

"Well... Not yet. I have to give Jungkook a ride home. I promised him I would."

"I see. Becoming friends? That's a good thing." Seokjin claimed and suddenly Yoongi brought his hand down roughly on Seokjin's back.

"I'll be leaving now!" Yoongi shouted, making the older turn around and face the man behind him and clear his throat.

"Why are you so abusive?! How could you do this to me? I'll tell the chief!" Seokjin continued as Jimin and Yoongi laughed at the way he complained.

Jimin then walked out of the building with Jungkook as the younger followed and got on the passengers seat next to Jimin while the older sat down and started the car. Jungkook just couldn't stop eyeing Jimin's wedding ring and stayed silent for most of the time. He gave the ring a stare and didn't want to look away until Jimin turned his head to face the younger.

"What's wrong?" Jimin wondered as Jungkook looked at Jimin again.

"I always wondered..." Jungkook mentioned, watching Jimin nod his head and place on his seatbelt. "How were you able to marry at such a young age?" Jungkook wondered as Jimin placed his hand on the steering wheel and pointed his body to face Jungkook.

"Oh... Well it was rather easy.." Jimin said. "It all depends on how much you love someone. I married Yun-se after graduation." Jimin said. Not sounding very excited as Jungkook expected.

"That's very fast. You must've loved her after all those times she stuck up for you. Lee Yun-se is such a nice girl. Did she want an early marriage?" Jungkook questioned, but Jimin just shook his head.

"Neither of us did. It was an arranged marriage between our family... We had no other choice. But I couldn't be any happier now. I love her." Jimin claimed as Jungkook raised a brow, wanting to ask more questions on it. But the whole thing seemed too personal to touch on.

"Oh, that's nice.." Jungkook responded. Nodding his head and looking back at the wedding ring while Jimin drove him home. Jimin knew what Jungkook was staring at the whole time. It felt like he couldn't get the younger's stares off no matter what... But yet again, this didn't seem to bother Jimin like before.
