Chapter 10: Keep distance

The two averted their eyes and looked at the ground in sync as Seokjin stepped up with his hands on his hips. "So? How's the experiment coming along?" Seokjin asked as he walked in between the two and smiled at Jimin.

"S-So far it's behaving well with the salt water. Still didn't test it on the coral samples." Jimin answered and kept his gaze far from Jungkook's.

Yoongi walked around and listened to the song that was playing and shook his head. "What's up with this romantic song?" Yoongi asked as Jungkook quickly turned his head to face the older.

"Music to pass the time." Jungkook added as he quickly walked up to his phone and turned off the music. "Not very work friendly... Is it?" Jungkook questioned as Yoongi chuckled and picked up a random empty flask to play with it.

"A song holds great meaning." Yoongi replied. Seokjin then made sure he leaned in to whisper to Jimin and question him what were Jungkook and himself up to at the moment. Seokjin of course looked out for Jimin. He knew the man was married and something like this wouldn't look good in the eyes of Yun-se.

Seokjin placed his hand on Jimin's shoulder and looked at him. Making sure he spoke silently. "...Jimin... What was that?" The older asked the man as Jimin looked up at Seokjin.

"The mixture Jungkook helped me make." Jimin answered. Avoiding the question so quickly.

"No! You know what I'm talking about. If Yun-se knows about this. She'll be crushed!"

"Yun-se won't ever know about this, Jin." Jimin stated. Looking at Jin in the eyes. "It was nothing.."

"Then say you wouldn't do it again. You know you have to stay in that marriage. There's no way you could ever love Jungkook. I'm not trying to ruin your happiness, but this relationship is what you need to stay in. No matter how many times you want to change your mind." Seokjin mentioned as Jimin looked up to see Jungkook watching the two from afar.

"Seokjin, it's not like I want him anyways! I... I'm a married man. Happily wedded and proud of it. I wear my ring every day with a smile. Why on earth would I get rid of such a good life?" Jimin asked as Seokjin nodded.

"Just making sure." The older claimed and looked down at the dish. "You two start testing the samples. Yoongi and I will record the observations."

"Right..." Jimin responded and looked at Jungkook. Not really trying to get his attention to signal the boy over since Jungkook was already staring. "Jungkook, come here." Jimin ordered as the younger approached the older, stepping a bit too close as soon as Jimin picked out the coral samples. Jimin looked up at Jungkook and placed his hand on his chest to move him back. "Add in a few coral samples please." Jimin stated while Seokjin brought along a clipboard to record data.

Jungkook looked down at the container filled with coral samples as he let out a sigh. Beginning to work while Seokjin stepped in between them again. Restricting Jungkook from looking at Jimin for most of the time. He was only able to look at Jimin and make a smile before Seokjin would block the view. Jungkook understood why this was happening, but he just wished the older could stop assuming things since Jungkook was attracted to the same gender. It made Jungkook feel like he couldn't stand by Jimin because others feared he might rub off his sexuality on Jimin, a man that's already married.

Yoongi walked up and stood by Jimin's other side since Seokjin gave Yoongi a look, telling him what to do. It was like Jungkook couldn't get around to ask Jimin anything! This made the younger feel a bit bad for just looking at Jimin earlier. Even if it wasn't hurting anyone. Jungkook looked down at the coral sample he received and held it in his hands while Jimin walked to the other side of the counter, across Jungkook and looked at him, holding out the dish and staring at him.

"Did you add in the mixture yet?" Jimin wondered as Jungkook looked down at the coral and then at Jimin.

"I have to make another batch of the mixture and add onto the salted water?" Jungkook asked as Jimin nodded with a smile as Yoongi looked at Jimin and then at Jungkook for a moment.

"I guess you can say... They have chemistry." Yoongi snickered and this made Seokjin tilt his head and fold his arms.

"That was horrible! Leave the jokes to me." Seokjin laughed and hit Yoongi's shoulder.

"N-No ones watching the abuse I go through?" Yoongi shouted his complain and chuckled after. Making the older smile as he wrote down most of his observations.

After that, Seokjin hesitated to leave Jimin alone with Jungkook. He didn't want Jimin to go through drama and end up divorcing his wife for this, but of course he was sure Jimin would never do such a thing to Yun-se. This made Seokjin feel a little bit trustful towards Jimin on the matter. Seokjin left with Yoongi, gathering data to add it to their permanent forums to save the data. Leaving the two alone.

Jimin looked back at Jungkook after placing the coral samples into the mixture to watch it set in for a while. This was testing the coral to see if it'll get stronger over time. Jimin closed the dish and stared at the younger who was resting his head on his hand while his other hand tapped onto the glass of the dish. He seemed more silent and this caused Jimin to step up and talk to him.

"You.. Did a good job on the mixture. Used the right proteins and baisic formula. The corals will survive I'm sure of it!" Jimin said. Thinking Jungkook was worried the experiment wouldn't come out right.

"That's not why I'm a little upset..." Jungkook said as he looked up at Jimin. "Do you think... Seokjin and Yoongi hates me? I was just looking at you for a moment and they moved you away from me... Did they... Think I was going to make you gay?" Jungkook asked as Jimin's eyes widened the the assumption.

"W-What? Of course not!" Jimin replied. Even if that was the real reason, he couldn't allow Jungkook to know it since it really was the tough truth. Seokjin was just worried about Jimin's marriage. That's all.

"I thought they were just treating me different by standing between us because of my preferences... You... Won't treat me different, would you?" Jungkook asked as Jimin smiled and stepped up to the younger.

"Jungkook, I won't judge you because of that! It's a stupid thing to judge you by. I accept you. That's what friends are for, right? To accept you and support. That's what friends and team members do!" Jimin claimed, making the younger smile happily.

"We should hang out sometime outside of work. Just to catch up on all the wasted years. There's so much to talk about and I wouldn't mind taking a moment of my day to catch up with you, Mr. Park." Jungkook added, setting the dish up on a shelf for tomorrow to check it. "Guess we need to continue researching, huh?" Jungkook asked as Jimin nodded with a smile.

"That's the good part!" Jimin giggled and took off his goggles to fix his glasses underneath it. "Let's be quick so we can leave early again. I love this place but too much of it makes my head hurt." Jimin stated as Jungkook nodded and walked out, taking off his gloves and apron too so they could head off to the resource center.

The two walked together side by side as they travelled to the resource center to do more research. Jimin held a big smile on his face, enjoying the library room more than anything since he had a love for books. Jimin stepped in with a smile and started walking to the aquatic aisle while Jungkook followed as always.

"Don't you just love reading these and researching? It gives you so much knowledge on the subject and you can learn from it! Pass the time too!" Jimin said happily as he picked out the books on corals. "Imagine if Yoongi was still my team mate, He would have died of boredom. I'm glad you're able to pull through."

"Still a nerd." Jungkook teased as Jimin smiled and turned his head to face Jungkook.

"Hey, it pays to be a nerd here!" Jimin stated as Jungkook walked up to Jimin and looked at the books he was holding. "You aren't any different, Mr. Jeon."

"I know what I am." Jungkook teased and held one of the books and looked at Jimin. "So this is what you mostly do? Research and conduct experiments? What does Seokjin do?"

"As I said before, he finds sponsers and he records the data and finds possible issues for our next project. He's good at it." Jimin claimed and walked over to the table and set down his books, pulling up a chair so he could sit down, but Jungkook suddenly pulled it making Jimin fall onto the ground. Surprised at his fall. "Jungkook! That is not professional!"

"It's for the sake of the good old days, Park." Jungkook snickered and pulled up a seat next to Jimin's and sat down. Jimin smiled and stood up, pulling his chair a bit to the side while he looked at Jungkook with a sweet giggle.

              "Idiot."

"We both know that's not right." Jungkook said with a sly tone. "Before we start. When should we hang out together?" Jungkook asked as Jimin began to think.

"Should be later this week!" Jimin responded and suddenly, his phone began to ring. Interrupting the two. Jimin pulled out his phone under the table as Jungkook just opened his book so he could let Jimin answer the phone. "Give me a sec."

Jimin looked at his caller ID to see Yun-se was calling and Jimin just stared at the ID, already knowing it was Yun-se being forced to call him by her Mother. Jimin usually answers, but he just set the phone face down and looked at Jungkook again, ignoring the call now. "So.. Where were we?" Jimin asked Jungkook, giving him attention rather than answering to his wife and bickering Mother in law.
