2 - The New Kid (I Gift Roses)

"Ehhhhhh?" Kaito said teasingly, drawing out the sound, "Why would I ever do that?"

Aoko raised an eyebrow. "I'm serious, Kaito. No tricks. No games. Leave the new kid alone."

Ha, fat chance. No way was he going to leave Hakubastard alone--especially since the guy was trying to put him in jail. But it was Aoko asking...

...and Aoko was eyeing the mop that was left in the corner of the room. Right.

"I make no promises," Kaito said, "But I'll try to leave him alone for the first week."

Aoko sighed, her shoulders drooping. Though, she must have realized that was the best she was going to get, because all she gave was a simple 'thank you' before going to talk with Keiko.

Leaning back in his chair and kicking his feet up on the desk, Kaito pulled out his phone to check the news. Once again he--KID, that is--had made the front page. Another heist tomorrow night(Some detective named Shinichi had solved the riddle) and Kaito was... excited, to say the least. He had a good feeling today.

"Hello."

Kaito nearly fell out of his seat, jarred by the very, very familiar face that was two inches from his own. "Bit close are we? Perhaps... a crush?" He grinned teasingly, only to be smacked in the back of the head.

"Kaito! Apologize!" Aoko commanded before glancing up at Hakuba, who was blushing furiously and had removed himself from Kaito's personal bubble. "I'm sorry about him."

"No, no, that was rude of me. No need to apologize." Hakuba scratched the back of his head. "Thought I recognized you, is all."

"Hmf, well," Kaito paused, then held out a rose to the detective, "Kaito Kuroba. Pleasure to meet you."

Hakuba raised an eyebrow, but accepted the rose nonetheless. It was then that Kaito startled to his feet, grabbing Hakuba by the wrist.

"Kaito!" Aoko scolded, "What is your pro--" she stopped, "--blem... Oh."

Hakuba glanced around awkwardly, then watched as Kaito let go of his wrist and held out the palm of his hand. "A blue rose..." the detective murmured softly, now turning to stare at the palm of his own hand.

"NOPE! No, no way. I am not soulmates with some nosey detective," Kaito protested. He glanced up at Hakuba, then back down at their hands. "Yeah, no," he finished before disappearing in a plume of smoke.
