Jungkook tosses and turns in his bed, groaning in frustration when he realizes that he won't be able to fall back to sleep after waking up nearly an hour ago. He glances at the clock, and when he sees that it's 4 AM, he lets out a sigh of resignation before getting up and heading straight to the bathroom to take a shower.

After setting the temperature of the water, he undresses and steps inside the tub, letting the hot water glide down his back. The steam quickly gathers around him in the small space, dimming his visibility as he washes up quickly so he can get some caffeine in his system before work.

After he's dressed in his guard uniform, he trudges into the kitchen to his coffee maker, hurriedly getting his thermos filled with black coffee. He knows he'll need every drop to make it through today; sleep didn't come easily to him last night.

His mind was constantly running, absurd theories and unanswered questions swimming through his consciousness and even seeping into his unconsciousness.

After taking a long gulp of coffee and nearly burning his tongue with the scalding liquid, he decides to go into work early to check on Kennedy's ankle. He doesn't know much in the medical field, but living out of a tent forced him to learn a thing or two about first aid.

After slipping his boots on, he makes the long walk towards the cell block, holding his coffee in one hand and running his free hand through his wet hair in a haphazard attempt at styling it into something more manageable than a tangled mop.

After scanning his eye and hand numerous times, he finally reaches the cell block, where he stops short at the sight in front of him.

Kennedy is slipping into her cell, clothes wrinkled and hair a mess. She freezes in her spot, staring at Jungkook through the crack in the open door of her cell. Jungkook stares back at her, his eyes wide. He glances toward the office in the center, and the night guards are seated at the table, eyes glazed over as they stare at their phones.

Jungkook's eyes snap back to Kennedy, who is now smirking in Jungkook's direction. Before she lets the door close, she puts her finger up to her lips and winks at him.

Jungkook's mouth drops open slightly, turning to the night guards while pointing at Kennedy's now closed door, but they aren't paying the slightest bit of attention to it.

Realizing there's not much he can do about it now since she's safely back inside her cell from wherever she went, Jungkook sighs heavily and takes another swig of his coffee before going into the office.

The night guards collectively jolt, standing up and letting their phones drop to the table.

"You're early," one of them says, rubbing the back of his neck as his cheeks tint pink.

"Anything happen?" Jungkook asks, his eyebrow raising as he sips his coffee.

"It was quiet all night," another one says, pursing his lips.

"Right," Jungkook snorts in reply. "I'm gonna go check on Kennedy."

He sets his coffee on the table before making his way toward Kennedy's cell. He sees her sitting on her bed, twirling her hair around her finger as he unlocks the door and moves inside. He shuts the door behind him before sighing and leaning against the metal. "Where were you?"

"Out and about," she says, turning slightly as she sends him a small smile.

Jungkook rolls his eyes and moves forward, kneeling down in front of her as she sits on her bed. "How's your ankle?"

She frowns for a second before she replaces the confused look with her usual smirk. "Such a gentleman to come in early just to check on me."

"Let me see it, please," he says through a sigh, holding his hands out as she pulls her injured leg out in front of her.

He moves her foot around a few times, watching Kennedy for any sign of pain, but she just watches him with slightly squinted eyes, her arms across her chest.

Jungkook's eyes zero in on her shoulder. The shirt she's wearing appears to be a few sizes too big, and the collar has fallen to the side off her shoulder, showing a large red scrape on the otherwise porcelain skin.

"What happened?" Jungkook asks, tilting his head toward her shoulder, and she looks down before a blush creeps across her cheeks. She pulls the shirt back over her shoulder and she shrugs.

"I guess they gave me the wrong size shirt," she says, shrugging her shoulders and Jungkook frowns.

"I meant the scrape on your shoulder, genius," he says, reaching forward to pull the shirt away so he can examine it, but she pulls away.

"Eager to get my shirt off, aren't we?" she says, raising an eyebrow and Jungkook clears his throat before scooting away from her.

"Did you hurt it while you were out exploring or whatever you do?" he asks, resting his elbows on his knees as he continues to kneel in front of her.

"Sure," she says, smiling a bit as she leans back on her hands.

Jungkook sighs, resigned in the fact that he won't get much information from her. "Do you want a doctor to come and bandage it?"

"No," she says, shrugging her shoulders again. "I like seeing it. Reminds me of how much fun I had last night exploring or... whatever I do."

She grins at Jungkook, and he laughs before he can stop himself.

"Cute," she says quietly, more to herself than to him but he hears it, just barely.

"Well," he says, standing up and stretching his arms above his head, trying to wake himself up for the long day ahead. "I'm gonna go drown in my coffee. Yell if you need me."

"Wait," she says, standing suddenly and grabbing his right arm. "What's this?"

She grabs Jungkook's shirt sleeve and unbuttons it at the wrist, rolling his sleeve up to reveal that his skin is covered in numerous tattoos.

"That's hot," she says with her eyebrows raised, letting her fingertips ghost over the art on his arm.

Jungkook holds back a shiver at her cold touch as he turns his arm so she can see the rest of them. "I like them."

"Well, I'd hope so," she snorts. "They are on your body forever."

Jungkook laughs. "Right."

Kennedy grins up at him, and it's the most genuine emotion he's ever seen from her since he started working here.

Jungkook smiles back, and they stare at each other for a moment with soft smiles on their faces before Jungkook clears his throat and gently pulls his arm from her grip.

"Yell if-"

"If I need you," Kennedy says. "Right. Go enjoy your coffee and try not to think about seeing my bare shoulder, you pervert."

Jungkook rolls his eyes as he pulls his sleeve back down, buttoning it back as he lets himself out of her cell, locking it back behind him. He sees Jin already in the office, typing away on a laptop while Hoseok is just now walking into the cell block.

Namjoon is following just behind Hoseok, massaging his temples as the two walk towards the office.

"You look rough," Jungkook jokes as the three walk into the office that the night guards were in earlier before Jin apparently dismissed them for the day.

"Too much beer," Namjoon says, letting out a humorless laugh. "I wanted to de-stress and I pushed it a bit too much, I guess."

"I could use a nice de-stressing," Jin says, leaning back as he stretches. "It's been a while since I had a beer."

"I could use a beer," Jungkook says, shrugging as he sits down at the table and grabs his coffee. "I haven't been sleeping well. Maybe that's what I need."

"We can all meet at my place," Hoseok says, shrugging. "I have plenty of beer. I always put it on the grocery list but never drink it since it's no fun alone."

Namjoon claps, wincing slightly at the noise. "I'm down. Maybe more beer will get rid of this headache."

Jin laughs. "That's now how it works, but sure. I'm in."

"It's a date," Hoseok says, grinning and Jungkook nearly chokes on his mouthful of coffee as he tries to hold in his laugh.

"I'm gonna go check on Jimin," Namjoon says, standing up and moving out of the office. Hoseok follows behind to check on Yoongi, and then it's just Jin typing away on his laptop and Jungkook gulping down his coffee.

"Jin?" Jungkook asks, wrapping his hands around his thermos as the unanswered questions surface in his mind again.

"Hmm?" he asks absentmindedly as his fingers type away.

"Why don't they install biometric doors on the cells? Kennedy wouldn't be able to escape her cell anymore," Jungkook asks.

Jin scoffs. "Yeah, I know. I've put in a request for that three separate times, but it always gets denied for 'budgetary' reasons."

Jungkook frowns. "You'd think that would be a good thing to invest in to save you the stress of Kennedy breaking out of her cell so much and doing whatever she does when she's out."

"That's what I said," Jin says, rubbing his temples. "But the last thing Yoongi's parents care about is managing my stress levels, that's for sure."
