Rules

1. Use spell check.

I don't mind typos or even misused words. That said, if "the" is spelled "th" and "tha" on the first page you'll need an amazing plot to keep me reading.

2. Minimum text speak.

So long as it advances the plot, I'm fine with a little. For example, two characters texting each other. Even then I will probably recommend writing it out because you never know if your reader is an elderly lady or a preteen.

All chapter stories must be at least 2000 words. Completed short stories and poems must be under 5000 words.

3. Posted stories only. Sorry, I'm not accepting WIP DMs.

4. All critiques are publicly posted to this book as chapters.

5. Keep all debates and discussions civil.

If I say "I liked _______, but ________ didn't work for me", it means exactly what it says. I'm not saying it to be mean or a hater. All I'm saying is that in my opinion, that piece of your story needs a little more work.

I'm happy to read revisions and say whether they fixed my issue.

6. No underage sex scenes please.

If it happens off screen, okay. I personally don't want to see it. This is one instance where tell works better than show.

7. First come; first serve.

After reviewing your application, I'll slot you in on my calendar and send you a date for your critique. One caveat, I am a freelancer. I work mostly with local businesses and blogs. I am also involved with my parent's micro business. About once every six months, my schedule blows up on me. If that happens, there may be a one to two week delay. I will inform you if it does.

8. Three chapters per critique slot.

Unless otherwise requested, I start with the first chapter. If you want additional critiques, DM me to request a slot. I don't critique author's notes, outlines, definition list, or character sheets.

The first critique includes the blurb and the cover art.

On LBGTQ+ and genres

I don't think I should need to include this, but this is a hot issue for some folks so here it goes.

I do not care if your characters are straight, gay, or purple. So long as you have a plot, I'm good. Mature stories are also fine. Just don't forget rule 7.

I like books, not genres. My bookshelves contain Browning, Tennyson, Dante, Anne McCaffrey, Alice Munroe, and Stephen King. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is between Humanity: A Moral History of the 20th Century and The Political Economy of the World Trading System. My tastes are all over the map.

On comments and votes

Whether I vote and/or comment is at my sole discretion. Critiquing your story is not a guaranteed vote. While I may inline comment on occasion, inline comments are not conducive to my critique style.
