This was the very first poem I ever had published. It was such a kick to see something I wrote actually published.

To Be Who We Are

We can try to find the answer

To the questions never known

Seek to find the solution

Before the problem overgrows

You can look to the heavens

Cast your glances near and far

But we can't seem to find the answer

To Be Who We Are

Little things we never notice

Happen to us every day

And the little unhappiness that we have

Is the price we have to pay

But still we seek to find the answer

How did we get this far

When we can't even seem to remember

To be who we are

.

We can fly to the moon

Or swim the seven seas

We have to live in peace

If we hope to be free

We can learn to love each other

The biggest sacrifice by far

When we don't even know enough

To be who we are

.

Love may sneak up on us

It can come and it can go

Like winter follows autumn

With it's cold and it's snow

Still we find ourselves waiting

Wondering when we can start

To be the people we want to be

To be who we are
