I Survived
As a songwriter, it is not always the perfect poetic lyric that inspires and drives you to create something unique.
Sometimes it is simply a group of words that find the right melody.
This is my salute to the great rock songs of the 1970's.

I Survived
I was born in a black hole, on the wrong side of town
I was raised by my grandma, 'cause my parents were never 'round
I grew up in the city streets, full of pain and rage
Taught the ways of the world and love by a woman twice my age
I broke out of this nightmare just in time to save my soul
Turned my back on the life I had, I can't crawl back in that hole
Took up with a stranger, who left me bleedin' in the streets
Realized that the only way to live was to stand on my two feet
But I survived
I survived
Spent some time in prison after trying to find my place
Took up with the lowest lives ever walked in the human race
Then I gained my freedom, a whole new life never goin' back again
Gonna make something of my myself, before I reach the end
And I survived
Yes I survived
So many years have passed me by, I'm still standin' on the crest
I'm not the king of this whole damn world, but I'm as good as all the rest
Got a beautiful wife at home, live and love life every day
I keep reachin' for the stars, but I will never forget the ways
That I survived
I survived
