They laid there in a comfortable silence.

They both laid there in each others arms feeling content.

They laid there feeling thankful for having each other.

They laid there reminiscing the time they spent together.

They laid there thinking about the past.

They laid there thinking about the present.

They laid there thinking about the future they could have now.

They laid there thinking about the future they couldn't have.

They laid there feeling sad for themselves and each other.

They laid there side by side and not in each others arms.

They laid there with unshed tears in their eyes.

They laid there in what felt like awkward silence.

Ragini was the first one to break the silence.

Ragini (sadly chuckling) : god! We are ridiculous.

Laksh : ya. We went from being happy to almost crying in just a minute.

He said making both of them laugh.
Ragini was the first one to sober up as she was upset again now.

Ragini : laksh....

Laksh (without looking at her) : hmm

Ragini (trying to get his attention hence almost whines) : laksh....

Laksh(understanding what actually happened and looks at her chuckling) : ya?

Ragini : i am sorry.
She said taking a huge breath after having his attention.

Laksh looked at her confused and then frowned seeing more tears in her eyes which were ready to fall. He cannot see her tears. They hurt him so much.

Laksh : for what babes?
He said her nickname knowing she would calm down a little. And she did.

Ragini(almost a whisper) : for giving up on us.

Though these words were said in a whisper they were still clear as crystal to lakshs ears. He heard them loud and clear enough to make his breath stop, his heart beat to fasten up.

All he could do was stare at her like she grew a head. He didn't understand why was she bringing that up now. Their relationship. Her feelings gor him. His feelings for her. Her. They have always been a huge weakness for him. Whenever anyone mentioned any of these he would start tearing up.
So he didn't understand why ragini was bringing it up. Why?

Laksh (taking a deep breath) : why are you bringing that up now? Huh.

Ragini : because i have wanted to apologise to you for so long but i couldn't. I... I...

Laksh(seeing her struggling to form a proper explanation) : you what ragini? (calmly asking her)

Ragini looked at him with huge tears in her eyes and said : Laksh.. I.. I came to apologize to you, to tell you so that maybe we could have gotten together if you would have had me. But.... But (taking a deep breath) you were already with kavya by then. You two looked close and that same day later i found out that you two were in a relationship. So...

Laksh : wait.... Isn't that the day that nikhil basta*d attack you? But... When... How... What happened?

Ragini: when i came to the college that day i saw you two standing together. Her hands around your neck and yours.... Well you didn't really know where to put them. Did you? (she asked chuckling)

Laksh chuckled along with her but he could sense the sadness in her voice. Infact he was sad as well. All this time they could have been together but he being an idiot he is ruined that fucking chance.
Laksh looked at her matching her expression so that she would understand he feels the same. Sad.

Laksh : you know.... I... Even after we broke up i always hoped we would get back together at some point.

He looked at her intently and she did the same with him. They started unconsciously leaning towards each other. Their lips were almost touching. Their noses were touching. Their breaths mingled with each other. They could kiss any minute now but laksh moves back and ragini looks at him confused for a minute.

Laksh : uhm...uh we should go to sleep.
He was about to lay down but ragini held his arm stopping him.
Laksh looked at her confused.

Laksh : what?

Ragini : we will go to sleep but after you explain to me what just happened?

Laksh :nothing..

Ragini glared at him menacingly.

Laksh : fine.. I was about to kiss you. And I am sorry that I tri.....

Ragini : why did you stop?
She said stopping laksh from rambling.

Laksh (head snapping at ragini that it would have probably caused a whiplash) : what?

Ragini (rolling her eyes at her drama king) : well if you were going to kiss me then why would you stop?

Laksh : i...i....

Ragini (glaring) : you... You what?

Laksh : i thought you aren't ready for this.

Ragini : well isn't that for me to decide?

Laksh (curiously) : and?

Ragini(smirking) : and i am ready.

Laksh moved towards her looking at her lips grinning but stopped when Ragini held his lips in a pout and stopped him.
Laksh looked at her confused.

Ragini : i do want to kiss you but not now.

Laksh(almost whining) : why?

Ragini : because you just ruined it. So now go to sleep.

Laksh : wha... What?

But by now ragini was on the bed with a blanket above her leaving laksh gaping.

There was a round of laughter and giggles going around in the table.

All the four of them were sitting together and eating together. And laughing together.

Sia: so you never told us why you guys broke up?

Laksh and Ragini both looked at each other and smiled.

Flashback :

Laksh and Ragini both were sitting on a bench in a park with Ragini's head on Laksh's shoulder. They both had huge smile on their faces. They always met like this in secret making time to meet outside of the college. Their relationship has been so innocent even after two years of dating they have never made "love". They have been making out for sometime (only kissing and little bit of touching) but that was it. And Laksh was too good to ask for anything from her. Ever.
Laksh bend hia head a little to give Ragini a kiss on her temple.

Laksh : come on. Lets get you home before your parents freak out.

Ragini(laughing) : yup

Laksh pulled her up and they started walking with their hand glued together.

Ragini : laksh.....

Laksh : hmmm

Ragini : lakshhhhhhh

Trying to get him to look at her

Laksh (chuckling) :what?

And still not looking at her

Ragini : what's our future?

Now Laksh finally looked at her and his face had a seriousness now.

Laksh : what do you mean?

Ragini (taking a deep breath) : how long will we date for? Will we get married? What about our career? And stuff.

Laksh : you want to get married now?

Ragini : oh god! Not now but someday.

Laksh : so that's not an issue.

Ragini : what's that supposed to mean?

Laksh : we will get married after 4-5 years.

Ragini(sadly) : and our career?

Laksh : what about our career?

Ragini : won't our relationship hold us back from choosing the path we want to? I mean because of our relationship we may choose a path that suits our relationship and not us.

Laksh :that should not happen..

He said leaving her hand.

Laksh : i can't loose my career rag...

Ragini : and I don't want you to.

Laksh : but I can't loose you too.

Ragini : and neither can I. But we'll have to choose because we have such different ambitions. And we both know that you will never choose me.

Laksh (guiltily) : i woul...

Ragini : no laksh you don't have to make me feel good with lies.. I'd rather hear the truth.

Laksh(murmur but ragini heard it) : its not like you will choose me.

Ragini (chuckling sadly) : i would but you don't care. My ambitions are decided by my parents. And they have decided to get me married. And you want to wait for 5 years but my parents dont. So...

Laksh (turning his back towards her) : so its great that you are single.

Ryan : but you still stayed friends. Right?

Laksh(looking at Ragini with soft smile) : ya. We always find our way back

Ragini (looking back with a soft smile) : ya. Always.
