CHAPTER 35
Violet
The amount of fun Eli, Lianna and I had yesterday was something I had never experienced before. We watched movies with Eli imitating the actors and actresses while he was drunk. He wore three different shades to make it more funny. One on his head, one on his forehead and the third one on his eyes. His neck was wrapped around in a bandaid which was the result of the fight with Indigo earlier. It didn't bother him much with the way he enjoyed it.
Lianna and I laughed a lot but made sure she didn't overdo anything. Her small baby bump looked cute through the crop top she wore. She kept pouting because she couldn't drink until after the baby was born.
We had only begun having fun when a loud howl was heard that made me jump in fear and clutch Eli’s hand. Another one followed after that as Lianna went to open the door, smiling to herself. Eli took my hand saying, “It’s the Alpha and the Luna. They are claiming the pack and giving us the signal that they’ll keep us safe.”
I mean…. Wow! I was speechless.
I was slowly understanding how much their wolves meant to them. Their wolf was like just another normal wolf, led by an Alpha who protected them. That howl did reach me. The bond I felt along with it, radiated a feeling of safety.
Eli took me out through the door. His eyes turned to a darker shade of brown with the patterns in his irises shining. Lianna’s hazel eyes shined too as she lifted her neck to look up. I stood there staring at them as their chests vibrated and they howled back.
Awwwwwooooo!
It wasn’t just them. I heard a series of other howls coming from all different directions. They howled and howled until the most dominating howls went quiet followed by the others to be replaced by the sound of silence of the night.
I wanted to howl like them because it made me feel out of place. I internally cursed the witch that took everything away from me. My wolf, my family, my childhood, my home. Everything. I knew I still had to live like this until the damned curse was broken somehow.
I just wished my mate wasn’t going to act like the dick the witch cursed him to be towards me.
Lianna put a hand on my shoulder, making me turn towards her. “You good?” She asked. Their eyes were back to normal and they looked better than before.
I nodded and looked at Eli and then back at her, “I am. What was that exactly?” I asked them as Lianna gestured us to move back in.
We walked in and Eli closed the door behind us. Lianna gave me a can of beer, sitting along with me saying, “That was as Eli told you, the alpha and Luna claiming the pack. It gives the pack a feeling of safety. They do it so our wolves know that they are under the protection of the Alpha and the Luna. Our wolves howl back to pay respect.”
“Oh. That is… Cool..” I said, unsure what to say.
Eli chuckled and said, “Okay now. Back to the party, ladies!” He raised his can and took a sip.
Alistair came in sometime later to check on us and we made him act as a duck and he literally started quacking. Then began the act of mimicking all the animals and birds and, no, we did not forget the insects.
That led to a competition between Eli and Alistair which we had to guess. I paired with Ali and Lianna paired with Eli. We didn’t even plan it. It was just a random game that both of them started. They started acting out right from the cockroach to the damned dinosaur.
We were all a laughing mess. Eli once mimicked the goldfish by pouting and pulling his cheeks inside so his lips looked that of a fish. He flapped his hands close to his body and began moving around, moving his lips up and down with wide open eyes.
His face did look like a fish. Not kidding!
After that we played charades. It was Eli and him versus Lianna and me.
I was eating and at the same time acting out the song to Lianna that Alistair had murmured in my ear. As soon as I heard the song, I smiled at him smugly.
"Babe." I looked back at Lianna and gave her a flying kiss that she caught midair and ate it. I giggled and started acting.
I knelt down and started walking towards her on my knees and my hands to which Eli started laughing because damn I looked weird. Lianna whistled at me and started acting up with me, “Come on baby,” she said, very seductively. If I was drunk I don’t know what I would have done. I had promised Laura I would only drink in her presence because I wasn’t of age yet to drink and I intended to keep my promise.
Both of us started grinding our bodies against each other, as we danced to the song I hummed.
Really, really weird. But wild.
We knew we looked stupid but we didn't care. The guys kept staring as Alistair chimed in, "Okay you guys are going too far. Act up."
"That's what I am doing." I said as I and Lianna started slow dancing, holding each other's face in our palms, looking at eachother like we were in love. I turned her around to hold her waist as she held my hands.
She started singing, looking at Ali and winking at him, "I'm in the mood... for love."
That was it. It was, I'm in the mood for Love by Julie London.
I let go of her and she started walking towards Ali, swaying her hips as she continued singing, "Simply because... you are near me." She strangled his waist and sat on his lap, running her finger from his forehead to his lips, "Honey, but when you are near me… I'm in the mood for love...." She moved closer to his lips.
Damn them!
He kept staring at her with dark hooded eyes and I swear the guy was blushing a little while Eli was trying to control his laughter as he shifted on the couch, his cheeks red.
"Baby, if you plan on staying here, stop that." Alistair said, making Liannna giggle back and hide her head on his chest.
"Dude she is preggy." Eli said, with narrowed wide eyes as I downed my medicinal juices. Laura had found out perfect ways to let the medications run in my system without me having to gag or puke. She put them in healthy juices that were going to keep me hydrated and my body to help with the pain as well.
"And." Alistair said, raising his eyebrow as Lianna got up off him and sat beside him, looking at Eli the same way.
"What and? You can't have sex when they.. are ..preggy... Can you?" He asked, pausing every time he spoke, as he made a disgusted face. I was sipping my juice enjoying the conversation.
Alistair turned to look at Lianna as she kept looking at Eli, "You know nothing, Jon Snow." She said, making Eli gasp and for me to spray the juice I had in my mouth as I laughed out loud and then began coughing. Eli kept pointing his fingers at both of them with a shocked looking face.
Alistair smacked his head and said, "Stop shitting yourself. It's normal."
"Normal! How do you even.. Where do you put....what the hell?!!" He asked, bewildered and kept groaning in between as he put his hands on his face.
"It's healthy!" Lianna said, winking and kissing Alistair's cheek.
"Healthy! Not for the baby! Eww!! The baby must feel disgusted. Dude, seriously….Why would you let the baby hear and experience sex even before-" Eli was cut by Alistair.
"Okay, I gotta go!!" Alistair said as he got up. Eli still looked at Lianna with a disgusted face. She just shrugged at it.
"You need this, El." I threw a beer bottle at him as he caught it effortlessly. He quickly opened it and took a big sip.
Alistair kissed Lianna and her belly saying a quick love you. He said he had work with the pack borders today and that it was his night shift so he left.
We then played hide and seek like damn kids. It was hard to find the right place as I couldn't even stand straight with the laughter building inside me. We danced to songs and sang on top of our voices as Eli managed to make his own disco light for us. He used his cellphone’s flashlight and kept flicking his finger on it. It worked for us. Sometime later Jane came by.
She danced along with us and damn she looked totally out of her zone, with her hair free on her shoulders and a can of beer in her hand. I kept staring at her with my mouth hanging open. She looked different than the Friday night we had together. Tonight, it felt like she was her. Not a Mafia boss lady, just her.
She shook her head at me continuing to sing, "Get on the floor. If you're a party freak then step on the floor…"
Lianna and her were rocking, throwing their heads left and right while Eli was in his own zone, jumping on the couch trying to balance himself. I realized Jane was just not what she showed she was. She was so much more fun and I loved looking at this side of her.
Damn!
Eventually we had dinner that Lianna had brought with her. Jane left because she had to take care of Lyla and Leo as Villa and Vicky both had work.
We watched another movie after dinner with a perfect bed set under us. Lianna and I snuggled together under the covers while Eli preferred the couch. He had lit the fireplace because I was cold. With Lianna’s warmth around me and the lit fireplace, I fell asleep sooner than I wanted to.
I woke up late in the afternoon. Eli and Lianna had already left. Tory and Norah came after sometime and they talked about the events, giving me an idea of how the team games were going to take place.
"So there will be six in each team as you know. In the first game each of us will be given a task and we have to complete it before the other team does. Then the second game will be in a pair. Each pair will be given a task and again the team which completes the task first will be the winner. In the next game the team will be divided into half and we have to complete the given task and lastly the whole team will be put at task." Norah gave me a jist, speaking really fast that I had to pay attention closely to her explanation.
"What will the tasks include?" I asked them.
"Ahh, that's the trick. They won't tell us that." Norah said with a pout and Tory nodded.
"They usually start with running, hiding, climbing on a tree, swimming and so on in the first part. Then in the second part, it's either save your partner or drive across the whole territory helping each other by overcoming obstacles or building a fire and something like that. The third part changes every year so you can't really tell but it will definitely include sparing and will sometimes involve your wolf." Tory told me.
Oh.
"So will I be able to participate or not?" I asked them because I still didn't have my wolf. The mentioning of my wolf sent a severe nerve wrecking pain straight from my neck to my head, my spine facing the aftershocks. I shut my eyes, groaning and held Tory's hand.
Both of them panicked, "Goddess! What happened, Violet? Are you okay? Should I call the Alpha." Tory asked and I gave her a thumb's up, nodding my head slowly.
"I already did." Norah said quickly.
"Violet, what's wrong.?" They asked and I explained. Both of them freaked out when I told them about my episodes. Norah even made me tea when I asked her to, that Laura had brought for me as medication.
Why was I away from the people who loved me so much for so long?
This feeling of being loved was so different and new to me. I had such loving friends here. I had a whole damn pack who loved me!
I was so grateful I came on this trip. This was all what I had asked for and whatever it might be, I wouldn't give up on them. I would never give up on them. I had already made up my mind that if it ever came to giving up my life for them, I would.
I don't remember what happened but most of them fought alongside my father and mother to save us and keep us away from harm. Every time I met someone new in the pack, I could feel their pain without having to experience it. The pain I went through was nothing compared to the amount of mental and physical pain this pack had been through for the past fifteen years. It reminded me of mom and dad and every other person who lost their lives that day even without knowing them.
I was happy here. I was the happiest here. That's all I had wanted.
Indigo and Klaus rushed in quickly as Indigo questioned me, "Are you okay? Do you need anything? Does it hurt anywhere else? Is it too much?" He kept examining me, his eyes shining bright.
"I'm fine. I'm fine. Calm down. It's just a headache." I told him and massaged his shoulder. His eyes were back to normal as he let out a breath.
"Violet, we'll take our leave. Please be strong. We'll pray to the Goddess to help you through it." Norah said, with a hand on my shoulder. Tory was already in tears. I gave them a quick hug and Norah held Tory's hand as they left.
"I'll cook and you are going to eat well, okay." Indigo stated and I nodded my head with a smile. He went back into the kitchen and Klaus made me lay with my head on his lap. He kept caressing it as another piercing pain ran from my neck to my head. I rolled, shutting my eyes as Klaus held onto me, cradling me. Indigo was out in a second and I gave him a thumb's up. Again!
He didn't go back into the kitchen until I gave him an assuring smile. My fingers were growing numb and at the same time I could feel the veins in them starting to grow rigid. Same happened with my toes but it wasn't that intense because I could still close my fist tight.
Laura came in and asked me if I was okay. I gave them an idea of how I'd react through the whole process and asked them rather urged them to promise me that they don't freak out but they made no such promises.
The same nerve craking pain rose from my neck until I knew I couldn't take it anymore and I screamed, "Fuck!"
Indigo couldn’t stay away from me for too long so Laura just gave me a pill and went to cook. Indigo carried me in his arms up to my bedroom and placed me on the bed, Klaus on his heels. He sat down himself and put my head on his lap as he held my hand.
“Don’t freak out if I say some…unholy…words.” I said and hid my face from them.
“You can say whatever you want, little one.” He said, caressing my head while Klaus sat at the base of my bed, massaging my foot.
Not until you hear them, bro. Won’t say the same then.
“Okay coo…Ahhhhh…god..” This time my eyes pricked with tears as Indigo and Klaus freaked out again. I rolled on my stomach as the shocks of the pain ran down my back.
”Calm down.. Calm down.” I said, rolling on my back again. “It’ll stop for sometime now.” I assured them, having the experience of these deadly episodes for months now. I knew what kind of pain was going to affect me with the amount of time it would.
It did usually begin before sunset but they stopped for a while longer until after the sun had fully set. But as the night draws closer and the creatures of the night are clearly heard, the pain sets in full force. This went on for five days minus the day of the full moon. The day of the full moon was worse than my periods coming on unwanted occasions.
As soon as Laura finished cooking, she brought my plate up. “If you guys don’t eat then I won’t either.” I fought, looking at Klaus who gave me a worried look.
“Fine, we’ll eat.” He said as he lost to me. Laura sent them down to have food as she fed me.
“If there’s anything unusual, you tell me. I will be examining you throughout. If needed we have a healer ready but like I told you, all we will do is try.” She told me.
I nodded and put my head on her chest. “Please don’t be too worried. I will come out of it just fine.” I said and put my hands around her. I could feel my bond with her grow a tad bit more as her motherly love kept me going.
“My baby.” She said, just like I had heard mom say it to me in my dream. I smiled and let her hold me. “My strongest baby.” She said and purred. Her wolf was on the surface as she nuzzled me.
Not less than five minutes and Indigo and Klaus came up. Laura went to eat next as Indigo sat on the bed with me in his arms and Klaus sat on the couch.
I looked at the clock and I knew that it was time. The full moon wasn’t today, so I was a bit settled.
An awful pulling at my neck sent me in another drive of nerve cracking pain, I fell out of Indigo’s arms and on the bed. My breathing grew, my heart drummed and a lone drop of sweat flowed down my forehead.
Indigo whispered strong words to me as he wiped my tears and held me, rubbing my back. "I'm…I'm good." I didn't care about me but I knew I needed to assure Indigo everytime. Klaus was rather level headed and just did what he had to.
"Little one. My little one." Indigo cradled me, kissing my forehead again and again. God, he was so restless. Laura looked at him with a sad smile as she sat on a chair beside the bed.
"I'm really fine." I said, although my body felt like it was growing numb. This time I wasn't able to close my fists, not in a tight grip atleast.
"Take this before the next one." Laura brought me a black coloured pill and made me drink it down. I gagged with the taste of it but drank anyway, causing Indigo to make a face.
The next tremor was going to at least take an hour to follow this one. It was going to be like that the whole night today and I knew I could get through it easily. This was nothing compared to the night of the full moon.
"It'll help decrease the numbness you're feeling." Laura told me as she checked my vein for my heartbeats.
"It better." Indigo kissed my forehead again, causing Laura to chuckle as I smiled.
"How did you feel when you…uh shifted.." I asked, tilting my head to look at Indigo.
"Violet now is not the.." I knew he was going to deny it. But the best way to keep him from going insane was to keep talking.
"Oh come on.. now is the only time! Pleasee!" I showed him my puppy eyes.
He gave me a look and looked at Klaus who smiled. Looking back at me, he let out a big breath. "So we shift when we turn fifteen. And I did as well. I was preparing for him the whole time, feeling him grow within me as my strengths grew. I could feel his strong presence," he broke eye contact with me, "the bond, his form. I could see his eyes and imagine what he would be like. Because of his eyes I thought he'd have the colour of mom's wolf but he was the perfect impression of dad." He smiled and looked at me again, placing a small kiss on my hair. "So some days just before my shift, I and Eli were cleaning the roof. I used to stay at Eli's before I took the pack." He filled in.
"Oh." Was all I could say. Klaus did actually mean a lot to him, I could see it why.
"Yeah. So we were on the roof and we decided to jump down it as we had trained enough to land safely. It wasn't like we hadn't done it before. But that day when I steadied to jump, I felt his whole presence for the first time in my life. Like he was born just for me. It felt as if he wasn't something I didn't know. He was just me, only I could feel him then." He smiled, glancing at Laura and smiling. Damn, she even blushed as she tried to hide it.
Cute.
"When I jumped that day, I knew he was with me. He showed himself to his best friend through my eyes and ran at a speed I didn't know I'd ever run. Helping me take a leap as high as I could, I landed on the ground, crouching. My canines came out that day." He said as he showed them to me again. I touched them with a surprised face but he retreated them back.
"They are big." I said and he growled, smiling.
"Hmm.. Eli screamed to call Klaus because there was blood all over my face and my wolf wasn't backing away in my head. Like me even he had things to learn. He knew he still had time to show himself and so Klaus helped me, teached me to do what was right." He said with pride. "He'll guide you just like he did me, little one."
"Can't wait to show the little alpha how much she means to me." Klaus chuckled.
I giggled and asked. "So when did you shift fully?"
"It was the day of the full moon of my birthday month, the month of May. I was experiencing pre-shift pain just like you're doing now. I got past that and because I was going to be the next alpha, I had to shift in front of the whole pack. The first tremor I felt had me think about my life." He shook his head. "It's the head that bears the most of it." He said and I nodded, knowing how much my head burst inside every month.
Indigo sucked in a breath at my nod. God, he was so worried. I held his hand and told him to continue. "Uh..where was I..uhh..yeah so as my shift happened, I could only think of one thing, my wolf too, which was becoming an alpha of his people. We wanted to keep the pack safe and we wanted to show the world that we were better. Just as my shift was over, I howled back to mom and dad first, to the previous late alpha and luna. The pack knew and felt the bond between us snap in place. I felt the bonds of thousands of them but my wolf didn't lose his footing even after that. He’s so strong. I then howled back to the pack for staying with me and believing in me to be what I am today. I didn't celebrate my shift because I didn't feel like it. I wanted to prepare and I did. At twenty I took the pack." He said proudly, making me smile with delight. My pain long forgotten.
"Klaus was my parent then. I don't know what I would've done if it wasn't for him." Indigo looked at Klaus.
"You've grown much on your own son. The day I saw your wolf when you jumped down the roof, I knew I was going to see my best friend in you. My wolf felt him, the same strength as Luciano's, the same features and the eyes of your mother. And let me tell you this, your father and mother would've been so proud of you." Klaus said, a good pride dancing in his eyes.
"The shift seems amazing." I said, looking at him.
"Oh no love, it isn't really." Laura laughed, shaking her head.
"She's right." Indigo said with a groan.
"Did you find anything to break the curse, so I can get rid of it once and for all." I asked, and bit my nails. I noticed the numbness had receded a little.
"The pill is working." I told Laura.
"Good. Let's hope it lasts longer. It has an effect for a certain period of time only." She gave me a sad smile.
"But you still feel better?" Indigo asked, pinching my fingers to check on my condition. I nodded and waited for another one to hit me. “About the curse we’re still working on it."
The same thing went on over every hour of the night. Indigo insisted I sleep in the time between the two tremors as he took care of me. Laura denied any more pills because it could still affect my body as I was still a human. I understood her concern so she massaged my head with an oil that had an amazing fragrance. The coolness of it made my headache lower to a certain level and calmness settled my features.
I made her rub that oil all over my body because my muscles felt like they were going to break and spill all over. My gut felt like I was riding a rollercoaster ride and it wouldn't stop.
My head banged against something, making me clutch it as I grunted and twisted in bed. It was unbearable and I wished I never had a head. The whole structure of my head ached as it tried to pull at my face, my eyes, my nose, my gums. I cried tears of pain until I couldn't take it. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't speak. My teeth pulled onto something unimaginable, not making it visible to the others but to me, it felt like I was being pulled into hell, tortured for my unknown crimes.
At one point I couldn't move my limbs, they grey heavier as the time passed, my movements slowing me down, my energy depleting as I cried in pain.
But Laura's oil was much butter, I felt good with the effect it had on me and I couldn't understand how it was still working on me although my shift wasn't visible to the second person. Whatever the shit was going on with me, I just loved the oil. It literally helped!
Laura helped me change into comfy loose clothes and Indigo put me to sleep again. Klaus replaced Laura as she had to have word with the doctors of the pack. She kissed my forehead and whispered soft but strong words to me. I had my eyes closed the whole time because I just couldn't bring myself to open them, after losing my energy throughout the night. My body felt loose as the morning came, the light from outside lighting the room.
As the tremors weakened, sleep took over me in seconds. I slept throughout the afternoon, not until Indigo and Laura both came up to have lunch with me. They helped me clean up and take a bath. Indigo literally brushed my teeth and Laura prepared a hot bath for me. She helped me to change and then even fed me.
I couldn't stop the tears as they came tumbling down my eyes, my mouth full of food, quivering as the emotions made my lips shake.
"What what? Are you in pain! Where does it hurt? Tell me. Don't cry, tell me." Indigo panicked again.
“No god no!” I cried more. “I am so happy I am here. No one’s ever done this much for me. You guys make me whole. Thankyou for everything. I am so..” I struggled to speak with the emotions taking over me, my breaths coming out uneven. “Please don’t leave me. I won't be able to survive this without you again.” I cried.
Both of them put everything aside and pulled me into a hug from either side, their eyes shining bright and chests vibrating with soft purrs. “We are never letting you away from us ever. And we’ll keep doing everything for our pup.” Laura said as she kissed my forehead, making me cry more. These emotions were coming from everywhere, all that I had faced in the past, all the loneliness that I had felt, all the family craving, care, love. All those barriers broke a damn dam and raced to drown me in my emotional flood. Indigo gathered both of us in a big warm hug saying, “I cannot think of living without you two either. I love you so much. You are my precious angels, my strongest alphas, my strength and my weakness. You are everything to me.”
For me true love was this. This right here with my family.
