A year has gone by already and every day May and Rita would meet. They would do lots of sleepovers, but mainly at Rita's house, because May's mother does not like Rita. Erica finds her really nice though. May does not understand her step mum at all.

Also, May has not seen Sidhean since last summer. 'I wonder if he has forgotten about me or maybe he already has found someone else. What if he doesn't turn up tomorrow? He promised last year, but that doesn't mean that he will turn up. And what if something has happened to him?', the thoughts keep simmering in her mind and she is unable to sleep. Still, she cannot wait for tomorrow to come and just hopes that Sidhean will turn up.

May wakes up early to the sound of the birds singing in the trees. She looks out of her window and sees the sun shining. She gets the blue silky summery dress out of her wardrobe and slips it on. It is still totally new because she forgot to wear it last year. It looks beautiful.

After breakfast she goes outside. She sees birds, butterflies, bees and many more small insects flying around. The flowers are colourful over the fresh smelling green grass. She sees a rabbit munching away happily on some cabbage. Then she sees Rita coming out of her house. She sees May and waves. May waves back and they run to each other. They go together into the forest to the river and have a picnic.

Sidhean appears behind a tree and listens for a while, then he walks towards them. His dark brown hair is glistening in the sunlight. May sees him coming, jumps up and throws herself around his neck. He smiles at her and gives her a kiss on the cheek.

"Hello, May. It's great to see you too."

"Would you like to join us?", Rita asks.

"Hello, Rita. It's good to see you too. Don't mind if I do join you", he smiles at her and sits down beside them.

They eat together discussing about what they are going to do together this summer. Then they go swimming in the river.

After a while Sidhean turns around to them and asks.

"Would you two like to go to a ghost ball this evening? Everybody needs a partner and me and my friend wanted to ask you. Would you like to come?"

Both girls have never been to a ball before, let alone a ghost ball, but both really want to go, so they scream.

"Of course, we want to come."

"So, I'll see you two there then?"

Both girls nod.

"Then I'll see you later", Sidhean says.

He gives May another quick kiss then leaves. Both girls run out of the river, dry themselves as quickly as they can and go to town. They go into lots of shops and try on lots of lovely dresses until each has found the right one for herself.

"I won't be allowed to go", May remembers sadly.

"Why?" Rita asks.

"Because my mother will never allow me to go to a ball. Definitely not at night."

They think for a while, then May has an idea.
