She awakes at the same clearing she awoke the first time she visited. She gets up and thinks for a minute. She tries calling for the fox again and again, but nothing seems to happen. 'Fox probably can't hear me', May thinks.

So, she starts to walk deeper into the forest. The trees start to grow thicker around her and soon she is lost. She gets scared and wishes that Sidhean is there by her side, who will take her back home.

Just then she hears some steps behind her. They are quiet steps, but they are steps.

She turns around to see Fox standing behind her. He looks at her and waits patiently. She carefully bends down to pat Fox on the head. She sees him watching her every move. For a moment she stops and wants to get up again, but Fox lowers his head for May to pat him. May has learned from her dad's book that when a person and its spirit animal meet for the first time and its spirit animal lowers its head for you, then it means that the spirit animal accepts you and trusts you for the rest of its life. May quickly bows her head to him too, then lowers her hand and stokes Fox. He feels so soft and cuddly and May falls in love with him straight away. Fox starts to purr and looks lovingly into May's eyes. May realises she is going to wake up soon. She pats Fox one last time and whispers into his ear.

"Don't worry, I will be back."

Then Fox and the forest around her disappear and she wakes up at the table, where she has fallen asleep only a few minutes ago.

This time May's mother is not sitting next to her. She is not even in the kitchen. The house is very still. May gets up and walks towards the stairs. She waits for a quick minute and listens, but the house is still quieter than a mouse. She walks upstairs towards her room. Then she goes to her bed and pulls out the book.

Suddenly there is a knock on the house door. May puts the book away quickly and walks to the door. In the hallway she walks into her mother, who was just coming out of the kitchen.

"Oh, there you are, Maria", she says. "I only went into the garden for a few minutes, to water some flowers, and when I came back, you were gone."

"Oh. And I thought you had left me alone. I can't seem to find Erica or Vitoria anywhere."

"Yes, you won't find them, because both of them went out and won't be back for a while."

It knocks on the door a second time. May and her mother walk to the door together. Her mother opens the door.

Sidhean is standing in the doorway. He smiles as he sees May. Then he turns to her mother.

"Hello, I don't think we have ever met. My name is Sidhean and I am May's boyfriend."

He holds his hand out to her. May's mother smiles at him and greets him.

"I am May's mother Vera Elisabeth. Nice to meet you, Sidhean. I didn't know May has a boyfriend. I thought he was just a friend." She turns to May.

"Oh, I am sorry, I didn't mean to makes things complicated." Sidhean looks uncomfortable.

May wants to do something, but before she can say a thing, her mother carries on.

"So, I think I will leave you two alone. Nice meeting you once again." She smiles at him, then walks into the kitchen.

"Sorry about that awkward thing just a minute ago", May says.

"Oh, don't be sorry. Your mother seems like a nice person. What I'm more worried about is that you never told her that I am your boyfriend." He smiles and waits for her to answer.

"Well...", but before she can think of something to say, Sidhean interrupts her.

"I'm only joking." He smiles. "So, do you want to go to the cinema?" "Ok."

They leave to go to the cinema.

At ten o'clock the film is finished and Sidhean takes May home.

"Why aren't you a ghost yet", May asks Sidhean confused.

"I can become a ghost whenever I want to. But I have to become one sometime in the night. So, I better be on my way. My camp needs me."

He gives her a quick kiss, then changes right in front of her. Then he turns around and his horse appears.

"I'll see you then." Then he rids of towards the forest.

May opens the door and walks to the kitchen, to find her family sitting at the dinner table.

"Maria would you like to join us?" her mother asks.

May seats herself and her sisters start talking.

"And, how was it?" "Did you have a great time? How was the movie? Was it romantic enough? And..."

But before Victoria can say any more, May's mother interrupts her.

"Now let the girl settle down, will you two."

"Sorry, mother", Victoria and Erica say.

The rest of the evening they hardly talk about a thing. Then May says she would like to go to bed. She goes upstairs and goes to bed. She lies in bed for a while thinking of how much her life has changed now that she has magic powers and she knows that her father is not dead, but trapped in another world and she is the only one who can save him. She hears herself praying for someone to help her. Anyone. Then she falls asleep.

She awakes at the clearing in the forest, where she usually meets fox. The trees are swaying slightly back and forth to the sound of the wind. May tries calling fox, but there is no answer, not even the movement of a bush, where fox can be hiding. She is just about to call his name again, when she hears a slight whisper.

"Don't be afraid, I am your spirit guide. I am the wind."

"What do you mean with my spirit guide?" May looks around anxiously.

"You don't have to look for me. You cannot see me; you can only hear and feel me."

Just then a streak of wind blows past her arm. She pulls it away quickly.

"What do you want from me", May screams out loud.

She is frightened and wants to run away, but she can't move, like she is stuck to the ground.

"I am not going to harm you. I am your spirit guide. I am here to help you and I will always be there for you", the wind whispers from somewhere near her ear. "You are the one who called me and chose me to be your guide and now you are afraid."

The wind laughs and May sees the trees shake more than before, but only for a slight second.

"What do you mean I called you?" May is puzzled.

"You summoned me."

May does not understand. Then she remembers that she asked for help, before she fell asleep. But she does not understand how the wind is going to help her. Just then she realises that fox is not there. Next thing she knows is that she hears herself shout into the forest.

"Then what have you done to fox. Where is he?"

The wind laughs a second time then says to her. "I haven't done anything to your spirit animal. I am the wind. I am good, not evil and you will have to learn to trust me."

Just then another big gust of wind blows in her direction. She closes her eyes, so that no dust gets into them. The wind stops and May opens her eyes. There in front of her feet fox is sitting, looking up at her. She bends down and gives him a reassuring stroke.

"Fox was not gone. He was just sleeping and didn't hear or smell you", the wind says.

May feels awkward and stands up straight.

"I am so sorry wind, for not trusting you and accusing you of taking fox."

She waits for the wind to answer her, but there is no reply.

She realises that everything is starting to fade and she calls out for fox and the wind, but neither of them answer. Then she sees nothing.
