Chapter 12: Where Wilt's Going

They went to the bus station and waited to see what Nina could find out about where Wilt was.

"What is taking so long?" Frankie asked while looking at her watch.

"Frankie, why did those guys come again?" Mac wondered, pointing at Adam and Douglas.

They tried to look casual as they held bouquets of flowers, looked at each other, then beat each other with the bouquets.

Frankie scoffed and answered, "Don't ask."

That's when they noticed Nina was back.

"What did you find out?" Jamie asked.

"He was here alright," Nina said.

"See?! He's on the run!" Bloo yelled running around the group.

"I questioned the ticket salesman. He wasn't cooperating at first, but I got the info I needed out of him," Nina explained, punching her hand.

"Oh! Careful, Nina. I just did your nails!" Ed exclaimed, holding her hand, making them smile.

"Do you know where Wilt went?" Mac asked.

"He's headed here," Nina answered, unfolding a map with the destination on it.

Jamie gasped and exclaimed, "But that's all the way across the country!"

"Mexico?! Is he going to Mexico?!" Bloo asked in a frantic voice.

"But—But why?" Mac wondered.

"He must have a safe house. He'll change his name to Walt and tried to blend in to society," Bloo predicted.

"This is weird. It's just-- It's just not like him," Frankie pointed out.

"It's always the quiet ones," Bloo said suspiciously.

As Nina explained what was happening, Bloo hopped up and down to get a better look at the map.

"Look, upon questioning, the ticket salesman admitted the route Wilt's bus takes does not go straight to his destination. It has several stops and change overs in between. I persuaded him to mark them for us," she said.

"Let me see! Let me see!" Bloo begged as he continued to jump.

"He left as approximately 5:35 this morning. We may be able to catch him at his first stop here. But we better hurry," Nina pointed out.

"Okay. We'll go. I'll call Grandma and let her know. Everyone back to the bus! Quick!" Frankie urged, they obeyed, then she told Nina as she placed a hand on her shoulder, "Thank you for coming with us. Wilt would really appreciate it."

Nina then handed her a ticket.

"What-- What's this?" Frankie wondered.

"You parked in a red zone," Nina answered.

Frankie looked at the ticket sadly then up to see Adam and Douglas, beaten and holding what used to be the bouquets of flowers. She just rolled her eyes in annoyance.

Back on the bus, Frankie sat in the driver's seat then Bloo jumped in her lap.

"We're coming to save you, Wilt!" he yelled.

Frankie pushed him off and told him, "Get in the back."

Bloo grumbled as the bus took off and he went to a seat. He sat beside Jamie, who he noticed was looking out the window in sadness.

"Jamie? You okay?" he asked.

"I guess. I just...I just miss Wilt," she said.

Bloo could tell that even though he and Mac always teased her about her and Wilt, she genuinely cared for him. And when she cares like that, she doesn't take it lightly.

"You really love him, don't you?" Bloo asked.

Jamie looked at him and answered, "More than you know."

"Wow. Mac and I usually tease you about it, but now..." he trailed off.

"It's okay. It's just I feel partly responsible that he's doing this," she admitted.

"How come?" Bloo asked.

"Because if I didn't take what he said out of context, then he wouldn't feel the need to make things right with me. I mean, he'd still be out there and I'd still be crazy worried about him, but it wouldn't be extra weight on his shoulders," Jamie explained.

He cuddled up to her and she held him close in a side hug.

"Don't worry, Jamie. We'll find him," Bloo assured seriously then added jokingly, "So you two can get married."

Jamie laughed a little and remarked, "There's the Bloo I know and love."
