Whizzer hadn't meant to flirt with the man at the reception desk, but it just turned out he seemed to be looking for a good time. It wasn't that he forgot about Marvin as he checked in with his boss, he just wanted to be helpful if he could. The man wasn't particularly his type, but Whizzer nonetheless brushed a hand through his hair and gave just little flirts. It wasn't cheating, they hadn't even made any sort of contact until he heard a gruff clearing of someones throat behind him.
Marvin had come in just to check in with his boss, a simple meeting that he had Whizzer tag along with him to as if he got the raise he was going to take him out for some sort of nice meal, just to show off his money and his lover a little. Everything was fine, Whizzer waiting outside patiently and a slip of paper being handed to him with a gleaming smile. His eyes looked outside of the room just for a second, seeing Whizzer propping his elbows on the desk and his ass out teasingly. He nearly growled, but kept his composure as he thanked his boss for everything while throwing his coat on and leaving quickly to tap on Whizzer's shoulder harshly.
Whizzer bit his lip almost embarrassed, waving a little good bye to the man as Marvin whisked him away. He felt Marvin's arm tight around his waist as they left, and then a little tug as their bodies were even closer as they left.
"What the hell was that?" Marvin growled as they exited the building into the cold outdoors, a wind blowing across them so their words wouldn't be heard by people passing by.
"I was just trying to help him out!" Whizzer groaned, acting almost childish as Marvin stared him down with crossed arms.
"I keep trying... I keep putting in all the effort to make this work and you're giving me nothing! I just want us to be happy, Whizzer. I can't be happy if you're off flirting with other men." Marvin caught himself as his hand moved out, as if he were going to push Whizzer but he didn't. At least that was behind them.
"I can't help it, he was looking me over the whole time." Whizzer pouted his lip, then watching Marvin take off his jacket and throwing it over Whizzer's shoulders. A little gesture they had learned, Marvin liking to show off how they were together and Whizzer's problem with the cold.
"If... If I'm yours... I want you to be mine. And only mine." Marvin muttered as they walked beside each other, hands stuffed in their pockets and shoulders brushing against each other ever so often. Whizzer perked up at the words, stopping and humming a little note so Marvin would stop too.
Whizzer shakily moved closer to Marvin, getting down on a knee and holding his hand. He blushed, and Marvin looked to him as if he were nearly insane.
"What are you-"
"All you had to do was ask, Marv. And I'm yours." He whispered, a weak smile over his lips. Marvin had no idea what to make of the situation, except blushing as he caught the adoring glances of people watching them.
"I love you." Marvin murmured back, watching Whizzer get up joyfully and press a kiss to Marvin's lips. Little specks of cold blew across both of their faces, causing a stronger blush on both of them.
"Hey... Look, and it's beginning to snow." Whizzer laughed softly, Marvin shaking his head with a huge smile as their hands connected and they walked the rest of their way back to their apartment in the busy city of New York on Christmas Eve.
After all, pretty boys were in demand.
The next day, a purr sounded behind Whizzer. Marvin had been a few paces in front of him, but came to an abrupt stop as he saw the man from the day before behind Whizzer trying to chat and touch him up. Whizzer this time smiled, but nothing more as he shook his head to the man. The man wouldn't let up, and Marvin took it the next step.
He came up behind Whizzer, holding his arms around the others waist and kissing his neck quickly.
"What's that place you wanted to go for lunch, love?" He murmured, earning a curl of the lip from the other man as he walked away quickly. Whizzer turned around to face Marvin, kissing him on the lips quick this time as their hands joined once more.
"Anywhere with you." His face shone brightly, and his body showed happiness in every way. It was hard to not love Whizzer, and even Marvin couldn't blame him for all the attention he got.
Whizzer was gorgeous, and Whizzer was his.
The fact made him smile, holding his arm around the others shoulders and stealing little kisses all over Whizzer's face as they walked, a giggling mess as if they had just fallen in love again.
Next year
"Your HIV test, Mister Brown, it's positive." The doctor spoke solemnly, a tight breath in his throat as a sob broke out.
Whizzer fell into Marvin, tears running down his cheeks as he clung to his lover. Marvin shook his head to the doctor, not being able to accept the situation as he hugged him.
There was only so much time left.
A pill bottle in Whizzer's hands now, AZT. He took them a few times a day, a little alarm on his belt would remind him to. Marvin would hold him, hold his hands, just hug and hold him whenever he could.
Was it contagious? Was it curable? There was no answer. No answer to the hell the world was living.
"M-Marvin... After I'm gone I want you to... I want you to find someone else." He choked out as he felt his body warm to temperatures it shouldn't, the cold winter air coming through the window again as he clung to the others chest.
"No... I won't, Whizzer." Marvin looked to Whizzer seriously now, helping him sit up on the couch and looking to him with eyes full of admiration and fear.
"I promised... We promised... You promised to be mine, and only mine, so therefor I'm yours. And only yours, Whizzer Brown." His voice was quiet, holding Whizzer's hands tightly and pressing a few kisses to the fading skin. Whizzer choked on another sob, falling into Marvin's arms and kissing him deeply. Who knows if it would be their last.
"Let's get married." Whizzer's breath let out, and Marvin smiled widely.
"Yea. We'll work it out tomorrow... Rest now, baby." Marvin murmured, picking the taller man up in a most bridal style and bringing them to their run down bed, smiling as they curled up next to each other.
Three in the morning, Whizzer was up with an alarm beeping at his waist. He uncapped the bottle, taking a pill shakily as his breath caught. Marvin got up as he sensed Whizzer's absence, panicking for just a moment until he sat up and saw his silhouette in the moonlight drinking a load of water. He wrapped Whizzer's chest in his arms, pouting a little as he rested his chin on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry." He whispered, tears threatening to spill from his tired eyes.
"Don't... Don't start with that. It's no ones fault but this damned virus." He nearly laughed, but it coming out in a coughing fit instead.
"You going to the live support meeting tomorrow?"
"Yeah... Will you come with me?" Marvin always went with Whizzer, taking every moment he could with Whizzer while he still had time.
"Of course." He smiled, knowing Whizzer liked the little confirmations he gave him. They shared a kiss again, falling back ever so gently to the bed and curling up close to each other before falling asleep.
Next year
Whizzer had been in the hospital for weeks now. A higher dose, an IV, and Marvin by his side the whole time.
Marvin would cry more than Whizzer now, holding onto his hand and shaking as he whispered about everything he loved about Whizzer, to Whizzer.
"I-I remember last year... We were gonna get married b-but you... We couldn't. B-But I got... I got you this." Marvin murmured shakily as Whizzer's eyes opened for a moment to look at him. A ring, a little ring in his hands as he was on a knee next to Whizzer's bed.
"Whizzer Brown... I'm so in love with you," Marvin laughed, holding his head in his hands for a moment to keep back his tears. "I'll stay by your side for the rest of your life. You've... You've made my life amazing, Whiz. Without you... I-I would be a terrible person." He caught a sob, Whizzer sitting up but Marvin shaking his head quickly.
"Whizzer Brown, will you marry me?" His voice wasn't quiet or ashamed, making sure that the people watching outside of the cracked door could hear him.
Whizzer smiled weakly, nodding with tears rushing down his face.
"Y-Yes." He murmured, reaching out a shaking hand to Marvin and watching him put the ring on his finger. A nice ring. A few months rent, at least.
"You didn't have to... M-Marvin I'm nearly gone anyways."
"I wanted to, baby... I want you to have everything you've ever wanted and I want you to live." Marvin nearly cried out, sitting on the edge of the bed next to Whizzer and feeling the other's arms around him, supporting himself up and kissing on his neck.
"I love you." They both said at once, unintentional beauty.
Passion dies.
Whizzer was rushed into another room before Marvin could even comprehend what was happening at three in the morning when Whizzer was supposed to take another AZT, but he slept through the alarm and wouldn't respond to anything as the doctors prompted him awake.
"Whizzer Brown has been declared deceased." The same doctor who had given the diagnosis stated sadly, watching Marvin go through every emotion human all at once.
Broken. Marvin was broken.
The next few months were incredibly painful for Marvin and anyone around him.
He quit his job, he stayed home, drowned his feelings in alcohol and television. All that was on television was news on the crisis.
Soon the television didn't work, no one had paid the bill.
Spreads from one man to another
And now another year had passed and Marvin hadn't been feeling well, staying with new friends who had taken him in. The lesbians from next door. They heard his cries and helped him in any way they could, and even took him to the hospital when they found him passed out on the floor.
"It's positive." Charlotte spoke softly. Marvin's expression didn't change as his body was shaking, tears just falling down from his eyes with dark circles to his pale skin.
"D-Do you believe in God, doc?"
"How could whatever's up there let this happen?"
"I do." Marvin started, his breath catching as he clutched to the side of the wall.
"And I'll be with Whizzer after all of this is over."
