You closed your phone with a smile resting on your face. Charlotte really loved that guy and it showed, and you were happy for them. Obviously you had known the younger girl for a long time as she was your cousin, and she had never been really lucky in love, despite her beauty inside and out.
On the other hand, Charlotte was never busy looking for love before she met Charles. You guessed she got that from you. Always working for the future and developing to create broad knowledge and chances for yourself. You were a determined business woman, and Charlotte had always aspired to be just like you.
As said, you were a busy business woman, being the CEO of a big company in Switzerland. You moved to Switzerland long ago when you got an opportunity to grow in your career and ever since, you have gained more and more reputation.
Charlotte looked up to you and you were her main reason to study in Genova. You couldn't be more proud of her making that decision, so when you promised her parents to look after her, even though she was old and mature enough, they were finally convinced and let their daughter stay with you.
Charlotte remembered you dropping off at school the first day and you drew all the attention by arriving in your black Porsche. I had given her an extra shot of confidence and a feeling of a healthy power. She loved her life in Genova already.
Unfortunately Covid came around and Charlotte was forced to move back to Monaco to avoid the risk of not getting into Monaco due to the restrictions. She went to live there with her long term boyfriend, Charles Leclerc.
So you hadn't seen the bright girl in a while, aside from regular facetime calls where you were helping her with her studies. Being a busy bee was all fun as it kept you on a drive, but this also meant that you barely ever took a day off to have some rest. So when the Covid restrictions loosened up and the borders were being opened again, you told Charlotte you'd come over to Monaco to visit her. This would also be the first 'real' trip you'd be making in five years. Of course you had your regular business trips, but this was different. This time you would really be able to take your mind off of work, you hoped, so you thought this was well deserved.
That's why it was extra sad that Charlotte couldn't pick her up from Nice Airport. You didn't blame her for that obviously, but you had hoped for a tight hug. You actually missed those.
But it wasn't the time for it yet. Instead you made plans with a friend who lived in Monaco too, and hadn't seen them in a long time too. You decided to meet up in a bar later that night to catch up over some drinks and have a good time.
It then also angered you that they didn't show up, as they told you something had gotten in between. You balled your fists in exasperation but corrected your behaviour shortly after. Ordering a drink to down and lower your bad mood was really tempting at that moment, but it seemed appropriate to you. Your business mindset never really left, nevertheless, and sometimes it overtook your gut feeling.
So instead of chugging your Martini and immediately ordering a new one, you casually sipped it, letting your eyes glide through the crowd. You had always liked to observe strangers as you were amazed by how different people were. But your little observation-session soon came to an end when your phone rang. The caller ID was from someone from your company. You sighed deeply and rolled your eyes. Even now you planned yourself out of the schedule with the reason 'on holiday', people still dared to bother you.
It seemed like you had to down the drink after all. When the glass was empty, you quickly walked towards the exit of the bar, squeezing yourself through the crowd. You weren't the tallest, so that made it even harder to get through.
You saw no way out anymore and the phone was still ringing, you had to be faster than this. Then a small gap was formed and you didn't let the opportunity of getting out of here slide. You shot through the gap, but some others seemed to have had the same plan.
And just like that, you bumped into two guys, much taller than you. You looked up at them in offense and they looked apologetically back at you.
"I'm so sorry!" one yelled to be heard over the crowd and the loud music. You shot him a short smile back to let him know he was fine and then showed your phone which still had the caller ID on it. The guys immediately made way for you and you could finally go outside.
Still, one of the guys had seemed oddly familiar to you, you just couldn't place what you'd know him from.
He had the same feeling. He was thinking deeply and then realised. You were the cousin of your brother's girlfriend. The one Charlotte told so many great stories about. The one who ran a business in Switzerland.
Lorenzo connected the dots as he now also remembered Charlotte saying that her cousin would be coming to Monaco for a week, and that week would be now. The man motioned at his friend Norman to come closer and he told him that they should wait by the door to wait for you. Lorenzo figured you were on your own and you might enjoy some company.
So the two headed over to the door and waited for you to come back inside.
You sighed as you opened the door of the bar to get back in again. Some new employee had ruined the printer and their colleagues were desperately looking for a solution, and their brightest idea was to call you. And keep in mind that you were the CEO, not an IT-employee. You were quick to finish the call as you could simply not help them.
When you were inside you headed straight for the bar again, hoping that there would still be a stool free, but you were stopped in your tracks as a hand grabbed your arm.
You aggressively turned around to see who had the audacity to touch you like that, and it appeared to be the guy from before. It immediately put your brain to work again, still trying to remember his face.
"Y/n Siné, right? Charlotte's cousin? I am Lorenzo, her boyfriend's brother." the guy with the dark hair said. Then it fell together. That's why you recognized him! Charlotte had shown you multiple pictures of the Leclerc family and their holiday together, but never got much in depth of the siblings. You knew that Arthur was competing in racing as well, and that Lorenzo was also involved in the sports. And their mom was a hairdresser, might need to get an appointment to get your hair fixed.
"Hi, yes. Nice to meet you. Sorry if I seemed rude, my reflexes tend to be like that." you laughed off, which he replied with laughter too. "And this is your friend?" you nodded your head at the guy in the blue shirt.
Lorenzo nodded. "Yes, this is Norman. You'll see him around a lot as well. You were coming to our family dinner tomorrow too, am I correct?"
"Yepp."
"Great."
"Already looking forward to seeing each other again then. Will we be hungover?" Norman asked the two others. You replied with a chuckle, thinking about how funny that would actually be. But you weren't going to do that, meeting the family for the first time. Also, you weren't that big of a drinker.
"I will not. But if you'll be, do your thing I guess."
"We, too, will not be hungover, Norman." Lorenzo said, giving his friend a playful but warning grin. "Anyway, Y/n, do you want to tag along with us for the night?"
"Yes please. My friend I was supposed to meet up rainchecked at the last moment, so if it weren't for you, I'd be leaving right now."
"Good, then come on, the night only just started."
Maybe, this night wasn't going to be too bad after all. The men seemed like great company and it was also a great opportunity to create a bond with the people you were seeing tomorrow too.
