Robert, Oscar and Y/n have been friends from their early years on and are still best friends. Of course the racing schedule gets in the way for the three to meet up a lot, but whenever they are able to, they always have fun. Until this time.

Y/n ran up the stairs, excited to see her two best friends again. She hadn't seen them in quite a while as both of them were gone for the majority of time. Oscar Piastri and Robert Shwartzman were both occupied with racing in Formula 2 for most of the weekends, having the three friends separated. They had known each other for years now, having met in karting when they were younger.

Y/n once was a possible candidate to become a future racing driver in Formula 1, but a fatal accident with one of her friends who didn't survive as well as their dad, changed her vision forever. For years she didn't dare to get into a car, and over time she was doing alright again, driving only small distances these days. She never had a problem with her two best friends continuing racing though, as this was only a fear for herself and she trusted the two guys to the fullest of their abilities.

She knocked on the door of Robert's apartment Prema had arranged for him. All of their drivers could get a place to stay in Italy, near their headquarters so that's what most of them did, as did Robert. The boys would be hanging out already and Y/n would be joining them a little later as she had to work till 10.

The door flew open, showing both of their faces and they both tried to pull her into a hug at the same time. They crashed into each other in the process and exchanged some dirty looks. This confused Y/n, but as soon as she had given both a proper hug and got into the apartment, the tension between Robert and Oscar was clear.

An awkward silence fell and Y/n was looking for a way to break it and try to have a fun time, but she was only distracted by the glances Oscar shot Robert and the other way around.
"Alright. What is happening or what happened before I came in? The tension in this room is killing me." Y/n finally asked. It had been a good 10 minutes and it was getting on her nerves too much not to ask about it.

Oscar smiled slightly. Though Y/n had been in contact with people all over the world for a major part of her life and had to speak English a lot, her strong Italian accent shone through. But the smile faded again as quickly as it had come. Robert and him had been in a big discussion before the girl, who he would like to call the love of his life, had arrived. But it also had been about her, Y/n.

In both of the boys' eyes, Y/n was the prettiest, loveliest and smartest girl they had ever met. She was everything they needed. She was more important than racing to them. They had never thought that they would really fall for the Italian girl, who seemed to have a natural tan all throughout the year. It must have been the Mediterranean genes, but really she was a sight to see. Everyone wouldn't even blame the boys falling for her as all things above said about her were true.

But again, the boys had never expected to fall for her, let alone both of them, as they had been such good friends throughout the years and they thought of her as a sister more than a possible lover. Over the years that had changed. All three of them got older and feelings started to grow. Robert was the first to notice the flirty behaviour of Oscar towards Y/n, but Oscar himself seemed oblivious to his actions.

It began to annoy Robert as he thought he had been so obvious about liking her to Oscar as well as some other teammates of theirs. But apparently it hadn't been all too obvious to Oscar. He had been too busy admiring the girl to notice his direct teammate's similar behaviour.

That night Robert confronted Oscar with his actions and made it clear that he liked Y/n first. It definitely wasn't the smartest move of his, but at the time, emotions and adrenaline took over and he blurted all of his words out. This led to the heavy discussion they had, knowing that the girl concerned in the fight could arrive at any moment.

So as soon as they heard a knock on the door, they stopped yelling at each other and sprinted towards the door to open it. If it wouldn't have been Y/n, but the pizza delivery guy, it would have made an awkward scene.

But now Oscar was thinking about if that would have been more awkward or this moment, where the ambience from the fight before was still in the air and was apparently so obvious that it made Y/n question them.

"Well, are any of you going to talk?" she asked, now getting impatient. It was one of her bad traits, getting impatient fast. But in this moment she felt like she had all the rights to be impatient.

Without saying anything at all, the Australian boy stood up from his seat and walked towards the door. "I'm not doing this right now, but know that we will talk about this tomorrow, Robert. This isn't over that easily."

Y/n was flabbergasted and was left with an open mouth and Robert to her side as Oscar closed the door behind him. He really just left her on read in real life.

"And you? Are you willing to speak up then?"

To be honest, Y/n had always felt a deeper connection with Robert as he was easier to read and show more of his emotions. He was easier to empathise with than Oscar, who barely ever showed his true emotions.

It was always easier to get information from the Russian, but it seemed to be harder this time. "No, not really," he replied. "Maybe it's better if you leave too. I'll walk you home so you don't have to walk alone through the dark."

Once again, Y/n didn't believe her ears. She just got here and she was already sent off again? She was highly offended to say the least. She didn't live far away, only a ten minute walk, but she still put effort in getting here for them, her two best friends.

"No, it's fine. I'm walking home by myself. Have a good night, Robert." And with that, Y/n too stood up and walked out the door. Before closing it, she said: "I'm disappointed in you, both of you."

She walked home alone, knowing the roads well enough to take the safe streets at night. The way she was taking took a little longer than the one she usually took, but she needed time to think. What had been so bad that made this evening so stressful?

Y/n assumed they got into a fight before, but she couldn't get one scene in her mind that would be realistic. She made up a lot of scenarios and the worst of them was that one of them was being pushed before the other by the team and that that was the thing that bothered the other.

For weeks, the three didn't really meet up together. It was only Y/n with Oscar ór Robert. And she noticed a change in both of their behaviours. The boys had been distancing each other on and off track, Y/n saw as she went along with some that were nearby. Even some other members of Prema started finding it weird that the boys were acting like this when they were literally inseparable before.
Arthur even asked Y/n about it, but the poor girl couldn't answer his questions, as much as she wanted to. Because she didn't have the information herself and it started bothering her more and more.

It was race weekend in Monza and because it's Italy, Y/n could easily come along. It was the Friday afternoon and she came to the track as soon as school was done that day. Qualification had already been driven and there had been a big crash on the track, involving her two friends and two other drivers. She was so scared that they were hurt, even though the news said that there were no drivers majorly injured. Just a few bruises would be it and that piece of information eased Y/n's mind just a little bit.

Still, when she arrived on the track she literally ran towards the paddock of her early team. She had raced for Prema in her racing years and some of the older engineers and others still knew her, as well as she was regularly seen with Robert and Oscar.
She ran into the changing rooms without even knocking, hoping she would find the both of them there and not finding out that they would be in the medical centre. And she did find them there, but not in the state she wished to find them.

Robert was hovering over Oscar with his fist balled up, ready to punch the boy beneath him but was stopped in his actions when the door opened. Both of them looked at the door in shock because they just got exposed, and in Oscar's eyes there was also some sign of relief as he finally got a break from the fight he was definitely losing. Oscar was better at fighting with words and not at physical fights, though he hadn't found himself in a lot of fights before.

Robert quickly got off of Oscar and ran over to Y/n to pull her in a hug, but she flinched away from him. What the fuck was he thinking?

"What the hell..." were the only words that fell from her mouth, as she didn't know what else to say. She was speechless. What did she just witness?
"I don't care if you don't want to talk right now, because you will. You are not leaving this room until I know everything. These past weeks have been awful but this is really going too far."

She was absolutely furious and sad, but really there were more emotions than just those two going through her body. Her eyes changed color slightly to become a little darker and the boys noticed. It scared them as it only happened once before, when her big brother got in a fight with some dude they met in the street and totally knocked the guy out. She had been as angry then as she was now. They witnessed it and they were now afraid that the same would happen to them.

Robert was the first to speak up. "He literally pushed me off track. As if he was trying to kill me. This guy..."

"Are you kidding me?! I told you it was someone else that hit my left rear. We were in a fight for a position with three drivers, of course I didn't do it on purpose. Are you out of your mind?" Oscar responded. He had gotten up as soon as the stronger boy got off of him, and he now walked towards him. "You are only saying this to give me a bad image for Y/n so she will only give attention to you, but that is not how it works, Robert." the Australian hissed into the blonde's face. This was a shock for Y/n as well, as she had never seen Oscar this mad. But how was this on her?

Y/n shook her head in confusion. "Wait, how is this about me? I don't get it."

"It has been about you all this time, Y/n, but you have been as oblivious to it as we were before. All this time we thought that we were just a couple of kids growing to be friends for life and nothing more, but seems that Robert and I both started having feelings for you." Oscar said, now standing in front of Y/n, carefully cupping her cheek and caressing it with his thumb, much to the anger of Robert. Y/n didn't know what to do, she was just frozen in place, letting it all happen to her. They liked her? Both of her best friends who she thought were seeing her as a sister, liked her more than on a platonic level?

She would be lying if she said that she wouldn't ever have caught some feelings for the Russian boy, but she never thought he would like her back, let alone Oscar liking her as well. Maybe she really had been oblivious these past weeks, but looking back on them, it all made sense. Still, Y/n had no idea what to say and the best option right now seemed to walk off and walk around the circuit. So she did. She left the boys who she was calling best friends or brothers, by theirself again.

If any of you is injured when I get back, you both have a massive problem

While sending her text she bumped into Charles Leclerc, as Formula One was also having their race weekend in Monza. They walked the rest of the track together, talking about the situation and it helped her a lot. Charles had heard about the situation already as it apparently really had been messing with Arthur's mind, so the older Leclerc already had a little insight on the story.

Just a week later she had talked to Oscar and Robert on Charles's advice. She had respectfully rejected Oscar as she truly felt nothing more for the boy than a friendship and no love for him romantically. He took it hard at first but understood her and told her he hoped they could still stay friends. Y/n couldn't think of why not and they had been together all evening watching a movie and talking with each other. She was glad they were fine.

With Robert, it was a slightly different story as her feelings towards him were sort of mutual as his for her. She first told him off about his behaviour that Friday and that if it happened again, there would be consequences, but after that the whole mood changed in the room. Y/n confessed her feelings towards Robert and he couldn't be happier. She said that she would like to experiment with dating first and take it easy, as the news was still hard to accept for Oscar, and he agreed, seeing her point given.
For another couple of weeks Y/n and Robert went on dates whenever they could fit it into Robert's schedule and these moments gave Y/n the ability to think well about her feelings and if they wouldn't fade away over time, but she was now sure. Robert was the person she wanted to be seen with, she wanted to be called his girlfriend and he would show her off as he had always done before, but now she would be his and he would be hers.

In the meantime Oscar got over his long term crush as well and even met a lovely girl he was talking with now. The three of them were happy together again and it was as before, only was a little more love this time, for all three of them.
