You are Charlotte Siné's best friend from childhood. While Charlotte is in a committed relationship, you don't really care about love at all.

The air was warm and thick, making your skirt stick to your legs pretty much against your liking. It had been rainy all week, but today the weather seemed to clear up in Monaco. You walked through the paddock of the circuit, Charlotte Siné by your side.
You had been best friends since you were only kids, as both of your dads were big in business and have been working partners for a long time. It gave the both of you a lot of time to spend together and grow to be inseparable.
Charlotte had invited you to come along to watch the Formula One Grand Prix this weekend as her boyfriend was competing and in fact, starting on pole position. You could see how proud she was of him. Everytime she spoke about Charles, her eyes lit up and her whole body language changed. It was a feeling you had never experienced.
As you were walking to the Ferrari boxes, your eyes fell on a familiar face.
"Oh my god, is that Fabio Quartararo?" you whispered, so that only Charlotte could hear you. But the two of you suddenly stopping in your tracks and staring at the blonde motor driver wasn't exactly unnoted.
He noticed the stop of movement in the corner of his eye and looked away from the people he was talking with. He saw the two girls looking at him, one in a little more starstruck situation than the other. One of them was Charlotte Siné, Charles Leclerc's girlfriend; he recognized her. The other girl seemed familiar to him too, he just couldn't seem to remember what from. Fabio smiled at them and waved.
You felt your cheeks heat up and you were sure they were getting a little red. You were hoping that Charlotte wouldn't notice it if you just looked down, but it was only a good try.
"Are you blushing? Do you fancy him?" she asked you, a cheeky grin on her face. She was surprised though, as you weren't one to fall in love.
"No, I do not fancy him. You know that I don't believe in love." Charlotte rolled her eyes in annoyance. This was the only thing she could never reason with.
The two of you had almost everything in common, but your views on love were completely different. To be more specific, you had no view on love.
You thought it was stupid. How could you see a person and be like "I want to spend my entire life with you". It just seemed like a fake thing to you.
And while Charlotte was settling with Charles, even living together, you were just enjoying your life with the people you enjoyed being with, even if it was only for the night. You liked the feeling of having no strings attached.
Love was only just a game, and you loved playing it.
You filled the void in your heart by sleeping with many people, letting them think they could have all of you. Maybe it was a little harsh and maybe it broke their hearts, but honey so does life.
But somehow, Fabio made you feel something. You didn't like it though, so you ignored the feeling by putting up a straight face and continuing your walk towards the Ferrari box.
Fabio Quartararo and you grew up in the same neighborhood of Nice, but went to different schools. You were only acquaintances, but you always thought that the blond boy was special. You kept following his progress through the years as you were interested in all sorts of motorsports. In fact, you were graduating in engineering in a year already, at 20 years old.
Your study was a course of four years, but you were an intelligent girl, being able to skip a year of both école primaire and collège. Also because of that, Charlotte was sad about the fact that you were wasting your time on meaningless make-loving with people you didn't know.
She knew what you were capable of and she wanted you to be able to make the best out of it.
You knew, and you appreciated her concern, but you had your life in full control.
The race went by and the results weren't as wanted. Charles didn't end up on a podium, so that was a big hit for the team to take. Nevertheless, Charlotte and you were proud of him and his work.
Later that night, there was an after party. You guessed it was just because it was Monaco, really, but you didn't mind a good party. A lot of people were going as well as some drivers, as there was a gap to the next race of two weeks.
You were wearing a fancy jumpsuit to the party and you felt great. You hadn't been to such a good party as this one lately. You were living your life and dancing around until you met his eyes again. He stood on the other side of the room but your eyes found each other and he walked straight over to you.
"Hey, you again." He yelled, to be louder than the music, as he had reached you. You had a playful smile on your face. "You look gorgeous!"
He's had a few drinks already, you constatated, as had you. Your head was becoming lighter and you became looser in everything you did. This was almost always how it started.
"Why, thank you. You don't look bad yourself, handsome." you replied. You stepped closer to him so that you were only inches removed from him. You danced for some time, talking a bit, but much of an in depth conversation was not going to be it for tonight, as both of you were intoxicated by the liquor you had consumed this evening.
Eventually he reached for your wrist and whispered in your ear: "Let's find somewhere less crowded, it is getting kind of busy here." You nodded in response and you followed him through the crowd to a spot near the exit and the bathrooms.
On your way there you met the brown eyes of Charlotte. She had a concerning look on her face, but still a small smile peeked through the emotion that was showing. She had the feeling that you liked him. And maybe it was naive of her to think, but she thought that maybe, this could be the guy you would settle with.
That feeling was not mutual. The handsome driver made you feel something, but that was not what you wanted for tonight. Both of you didn't want a relationship as had come by in the conversation you had this night, and it was a comforting thought.
The tension between Fabio and you was rising though and you cupped his cheeks to lean in and he got the hint. He pressed your lips together.
After some time you two walk out of the club, stumbling to a taxi cab that brings you to the hotel he is staying in.
The elevator is filled with the giggles of the both of you as you keep on telling each other bad jokes and cheeky comments, only to make each other blush and get turned on.
He holds your hands and he leads you to his room, following him until you stumble over your own feet. He looks over at you in shock but as he sees you are laughing, he laughs along and helps you take your heels off.
Now that you have left your shoes in the corridor you run after him, only to get slammed on the bed as you enter his room.
You slowly unbutton his shirt, caressing your other hand over his now bare chest. It is muscled, but not too much. He is a handsome guy, you had to admit. He kissed you and deepened it not too long after, a long night of fun ahead.
And fun you had. You fell asleep next to the young man and you woke up the morning after, his arm around your waist.
Carefully, you removed his arm from your body and got dressed in the clothes from the night before.
You glanced over your shoulder once again before leaving the room, but then shut the door quietly. Somehow, you felt bad for leaving this time. You had a great time with him, and not just the sex. He seemed genuine and interested in you.
But that wasn't something to think about.
He was just another player of your game.
_____ two months later.
You were sitting on the balcony of Charles and Charlotte's apartment, enjoying the last rays of sun before it would be replaced by the moon and the darkness of the late evening. Suddenly a sickening smell entered your nose.
"Mon Dieu, what is that smell?" you said in disgust, pinching your nose closed to prevent more of the smell getting into it.
Both Charlotte and Charles looked at you in surprise, as they could only smell the barbecue from their neighbours downstairs. "I don't smell anything weird?" Charlotte replied, wondering what was wrong with her best friend.
"Are you feeling alright?" Charles asked as he saw you turned pale. You nodded your head to tell him you were feeling fine, but as soon as you did a feeling of nausea entered your body and you felt like throwing up.
So you get up and rush over to the bathroom, Charlotte following you and getting your hair out of your face as you start throwing up. She strokes your back trying to comfort you and you sit back.
Charles also got in and handed you a glass of water. He was concerned about your sudden sickness. Over the years he has gotten to know you better as he spent time with Charlotte and he cared about you too.
"This might be a question kind of out of the blue, but have you had your period yet?" the brown eyed girl asked, widening your eyes as she did so.
"You mean-?"
She nodded slowly and Charles's eyes had widened now as well as he understood what you girls meant. But you weren't in a relationship, or did he miss something?
You got the urge of throwing up again thinking about the possibility of being pregnant.
"I take birth control, Lot. Also, you know my condition..." you said, your voice saddening. Since your thirteenth, your periods have gotten worse and more painful, you ending up in the hospital from cramps. The doctors said they were fibroids. Back then you had no idea what they were and you didn't understand, but over the years you learned to understand.
Fibroids were non-cancerous growths in the wombs and they were blocking your fallopian tubes and affecting your fertility. You had treatments for the fibroids every couple of years, but they would always grow back, giving you unbearable pains in the stomach.
"I mean, you got a treatment recently, maybe it cleared it all up. It can also have distorted the effect of birth control maybe?" she tried. She didn't know if it could be true either, but she tried to think of a possible cause.
"We still have a pregnancy test somewhere in the bathroom if you want to know if you're pregnant or not?" Charles suggested, receiving a weird look from you, which you also turned to your best friend.
Charlotte looked down. "I got really sick a couple of months ago, we thought that maybe I was expecting, so we brought a couple of tests in. We only used two and they were both negative."
"Ohw..." you mumbled. You didn't really know what to say next. "Did- do you want kids?"
You stumbled over your own words trying not to come off as rude or hurting your friends.
"No, not yet. In a couple of years, yes probably. But for now, we have an unused test lying around here." Charles said with a smile, looking through the cabinets.
The couple was really happy with each other and where their relationship took them and sure they wanted to have children as they were a little older, but as of now, they felt like they were not ready yet. And that was absolutely fine.
Charles found the pregnancy test and handed it to you. "I'll leave you two alone for a bit." he said and he left the room.
Charlotte's piercing eyes were burning through your body and you didn't dare to look at her. You didn't know what kind of emotion to expect from her. Would she be angry, confused, disappointed, sort of happy for you?
"Whose is it if there is one?" she whispered, so it was hard to hear, but her voice was stern. She clearly didn't approve of this situation, but she still cared for you, a lot.
"I haven't had sex since the Grand Prix. In Monaco..."
"That motor driver?!" she whisper-yelled, her eyes wide. Were you together after all?
"I mean, it has to be. Or someone before him, but then I would've gotten symptoms way earlier right?"
You were explaining the whole story of what happened that night while you were waiting for the test to show results.
"So, you two aren't staying in contact and didn't want a relationship? I really thought you were hitting it off."
"Yes, for that night we were, yeah."
"Oh, don't be silly, I saw your face the second he waved at us, I remember that." she said teasingly. You knew she was right, but that wasn't how you were feeling at the moment. That was then, and right now you were feeling terrible.
"It was nothing, Charlotte." you sneered. You didn't mean it to come out that harsh, but she flinched at your words. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say it like that. But we really are nothing. And if there's something in my womb, it was a mistake. And for that, I'm sorry as well. I know I should be glad that I am in fact able to have children, but I am not if it's from someone that doesn't remember me and doesn't give any meaning to that night. And that's also me. It was a great night, but it didn't mean anything special to me..."
"So you will get an abortion if you are pregnant?" she asked quietly and you nodded as a reply.
"I will. I am mentally, financially and physically not ready to have children. I never expected to be fertile in the first place, let alone that my birth control didn't work. I am going to want kids in the future, when I am ready."
When I am ready.
