Chapter Twenty-Five

I squinted to get a better look at what she was clutching, however, it was difficult to make out. It was big and black and...what am I doing? I should not be playing the guessing game. I knew for sure that it was a weapon and that she was going to use it on all the real worlders that were in the restaurant. I was about to warn the real worlders, but Sophia beat me to it.

"She has a bomb! Run, everybody! Run for your lives!"

Thankfully, the real worlders took the situation seriously and fled the restaurant. Kathy, Sophia, and I assisted them in escaping while Tamara kept Mary Sue distracted. The baby girl crawled out of our writer's lap, carefully dropped to the floor, and crawled to Mary Sue. She gave her one of her precious smiles and cooed.

Mary Sue patted the top of her head. "You will not have to be sad for long, Tamara," she said softly. "Once the real worlders are gone from this planet, our writer, as well as the fictional characters, will finally have peace."

I stuck out my tongue. I was appalled by her recent statement.

My friends and I got the real worlders out of harm's way in less than a minute. It was not long after that police cars showed up in front of the restaurant. The officers stepped out from their cars, and one had a megaphone in his hand. He held it up to his mouth and spoke into it.

"This is the police. Come out with your hands up."

Kathy guarded the front door to make sure that none of the officers got in, and I grabbed Mary Sue by her shirt, pulled her away from Tamara, and forced her and myself on our knees.

"Great, Mary Sue. Now you have done it," I hissed. "One of the real worlders must have called the police on you."

She smirked and pinched my cheek. "Relax, Cassandra. I know that a real worlder did not contact the police. I do hate them with all my heart, but I would never blame them for something that I did."

It took me a couple seconds to connect the dots. "Hold on there. Are you implying that...you called the police?"

"I did use the restaurant's telephone and did dial the emergency number. I pressed a nine. Then a one. Then another one."

My face twisted in confusion. In fact, I was so lost that I felt dizzy. My head was spinning, and I almost lost my balance. Why did Mary Sue get in contact with the police? They would arrest her! Then again, she was a tricky and unpredictable character, so the chance of her spending time in jail in the real world was super slim.

I breathed heavily through my nose and ran my thumbs and fingers through my hair. I was sick and tired of dealing with her and playing her sick games. This had to end now.

"I know how you feel, Cassandra," Mary Sue stated.

I glared at her with fury in my eyes. "Do you know exactly how I feel?" I said. "Huh? Do ya?"

"Of course I do. You are my best friend. I know that you want the real worlders to go away faster. It will take some time, but I promise that I will deliver. Oh, and Sophia? I do not have a bomb on me. I cannot believe that you confused my gun for a bomb."

"I knew that it was a gun," Sophia admitted. "I have been reading on real worlders and read an interesting part about bombs. Regardless whether there is an actual bomb or not, real worlders will panic and run when a bomb is mentioned."

Mary Sue laughed. "Then excellent work, Sophia. You gave the real worlders the scare that they deserved."

I gritted my teeth and balled my hands into fists. Never had I been this angry. Actually, angry is not the best word. I was ticked. Furious. I could feel my blood boil. I thought that my head was going to pop off from all the heat!

"That is enough!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. I had screamed so loud that the glass windows by the row of booths shattered into tiny shards. The shards fell in the booths and on the floor, but luckily, Kathy was able to pull Sophia and Ash away from the booth before they were cut.

Ash thanked Kathy and dusted off her clothes. "That is it," she said. "All of us are going back home." Her voice sounded frustrated. "We are returning to Forlot and will be having a little chat about what occurred today."

I suddenly remembered my and Mary Sue's little bet and came up to Ash. "My apologies for breaking the windows. It was not my intention."

She smiled. "I figured it as much, Cassandra. Accidents happen."

I rubbed my arm. "I am also sorry that we Forlot characters were making a ruckus. You see, Mary Sue left Forlot and was planning on killing each and every real worlder. So Kathy, Sophia...and Ava...and I followed her to stop her."

My writer opened her mouth, and her nose twitched. "Hey. Do any of you smell smoke?"

"You smell it too?" Kathy said. "I thought that I was dreaming."

I took in a whiff and covered my nose with my palms. It was definitely smoke. But where was it coming from? The kitchen?

My eyes followed the smoke and saw it. Saw the fire that engulfed the kitchen.

I did not have to warn the others of the fire. They noticed it too and knew what to do. Kathy held the front door open, and the rest of us dashed out of the restaurant that was going up in flames. Kathy slammed the door and joined us.

"Is everyone here?" Ash asked.

I counted heads - and gasped. Sophia was missing.
