Chapter Thirty-One

It was way past my and Sophia's bedtime. The sky in Forlot was dark blue, and Sophia and I were in our bedroom and on our beds. I was lying on my bed and flipping through the channels using the remote that I was holding. My roommate and friend was sitting on her bed with her legs crossed and eating a bag of chips. She was literally trying to eat the bag, not the chips.

"Give it up, Sophia," I said. "Us humans were not designed to eat a plastic bag, and even if you succeeded, you would end up in the hospital and possibly die. Now you and I may not be best friends, but I still care for you. I would hate to see you pass."

She looked at me and giggled. "Did anybody ever compliment you on your jokes?"

I hesitated. "...that was not a joke. You know that I do not tell good jokes."

"I like your jokes no matter how lame they are."

I could not help but smile and giggle softly. Sophia was not the smartest character like your average Forlot character, but she was indeed one of the kindest and sweetest people that I have ever known. She is like the female version of Caleb Night.

Sophia has a twin sister who is the opposite of her. Yes, her sister is kind like her, however, she is famous in the real world and an excellent singer. Sophia was not jealous of Stephanie, her twin sister, and wished her the best of luck.

"Cassandra? Can I ask you a question?"

"Absolutely. Now that Mary Sue is getting the help that she needs, I could sure use a long vacation."

"I want to surprise Stephanie. She has a concert tomorrow, and I would like to surprise her after it is over. The last time that I saw her was three months ago."

"You want to go back in the real world and would love to have company."

"And who better to join me than my best friend?"

"We have been over this. We are friends. Nothing more. Nothing less." I pondered for a moment. "Oh, what the heck? I am in a fantastic mood. You can call me your best friend, and I will come with you tomorrow."

She clapped her hands. "Yay! Thank you, Cassandra! Thank you! Oh, before it completely slips my mind, I have to ask. Are you going to do something about the war that the leaders of the real world are pushing forward?"

My smile turned upside down, and the happy feeling within me completely died. My skin became pale. My palms sweated like crazy. I felt like an idiot. Throughout the entire time that we were chasing Mary Sue, I forgot about the war that she ignited. We stopped Mary Sue, but much too late.

I had on a serious look as I stared at Sophia. "I have an idea," I said.

"What is your idea? Something tells me that I am going to love it!"

I switched the channel once more and faced the screen. "You, Kathy, and I will head to the White House tomorrow. What time is your sister's concert?"

"In the afternoon. Around one o'clock."

"Okay, good. We will wake up early in the morning and visit the White House. All the leaders will be there, and we will tell them about Mary Sue and that she purposely wanted this war to happen."

"Do you think that they will believe us? We do not have proof to show them that Mary Sue did anything wrong."

"I am sure that they will take our words seriously. They are leaders for a reason."

The news was being shown on the television screen. A reporter holding a microphone was explaining the event that was unfolding behind her. Citizens of the United States were either holding up signs or pumping their fists in the air and protesting about the war that could happen. Some blamed Christians. Others blamed atheists.

I narrowed my eyebrows and shut off the television. "We have to straighten Mary Sue's mess before it is too late," I said. "The fate of the real worlders is in our hands."

Sophia raised her palms to her face. "There is a bacteria named fate inside my hands?"

Minutes later, we tucked ourselves into bed and fell asleep. Well, Sophia was fast asleep. I was unable to. My brain was coming up with predictions and showing me what could happen. Would the leaders of the real world listen to me and call off the war? Or would everything go completely wrong? After all, there were plenty of incidents that would cause things that were already in jeopardy to worsen.

After an hour or so, I felt myself and my body drifting off to sleep, but I never did fall asleep because of what occurred in the middle of the night.

I heard footsteps against the carpet. I figured that it must have been Sophia, and it was. It was normal for her to wake up during the night and fetch herself a glass of water. This time, she did not do that and instead used the telephone that was attached to the wall and next to the bedroom doorway.

My back was facing her, so she did not have a clue that I was still awake. She picked up the phone, dialed a number, and brought the phone to her ear.

"Hey there. Yes. This is Sophia."

Who the crub was she contacting at this time of night?

"Nope. Cassandra does not suspect a thing. Yeah. I hope that she forgot about it, and even if she did not, she will just blame Mary Sue for burning the restaurant."

Oh my gosh. The restaurant!

"Cassandra wants to stop by the White House and convince the leaders that the war is all on Mary Sue. I am afraid that we have to personally take care of her and Kathy."
