Chapter Two
Katrina managed to pull away from her used-to-be friend's grasp and stumbled backwards. She huffed and brushed off her dress.
"I am hurt," Lean scoffed. "That is what you were going to say? That I hurt you? 'Cause I did not harm you in any way."
The aunt snorted and narrowed her eyebrows at the ghost. "Did you do that?" she questioned. Her voice was firm. "Did you really mock me? And yes, you did hurt me. My arm hurts now. I bet that there is a bruise if I take a look at it."
The ghost girl clicked her ghostly tongue. "You poor baby. Maybe your stupid arm would not be aching if you rethought about your plan."
"The only plan that I have in mind is going back to my apartment and chilling in my bed. I will eat pieces of frozen pizza from the other day and catch up on my reading."
"Huh. So you are not going to help your niece and nephew - the only people right now who trust you - get free from that place?" She pointed at the building. "They are scared and begged for you to help them out."
"I will assist them momentarily. I need to rest first. I need to get my strength back. You know that."
Lean giggled softly and smirked. She put her ghostly hands behind her and floated to her ex-friend. She floated around her and blew cool air at her. She was not about to let the human go and chill. She wanted to be sure that the only chill that Katrina received was the bad kind. The ghost wanted to give her a bad vibe. To let her know that she would not be through with her.
And that the "monster" would be watching over the human.
Twenty-four hours a day. Seven days a week.
"Did you think that I would move on?" Lean spoke in a low tone. "I will not move on from you. Never."
Katrina quickly stepped away. Her cheeks were getting hot. "You have already done your damage," she reminded her. "It is not different from mine." She growled. "Except what you did...to our Lubriem."
"Seriously? You are still thinking about that? That happened years ago, and I owned up to it!"
"The heck that you did! I knew that you were going to." She yanked off her glasses and rubbed her eyes. "You were drowning in guilt. The Lubriem was your friend too. You wanted justice for her, so you admitted it. For the sake of the Lubriem."
The ghost girl sighed. "We are getting off the subject of what we should be talking about. Like how you lied to the authorities that your niece and nephew were insane. And what makes me mad is the fact that you act so innocently. They are putting both of their trusts on you, and you are stabbing them. Not physically. But mentally. I am surprised that you have not yet taken a knife and stabbed them for real."
Katrina put her glasses back on and gave Lean a sickening glare. "You are crazy. What you are saying is crazy. And that alone does not surprise me at all. I was awake when you were talking with the children. You were pretending to be Lena. My niece, Gretel, mentioned that you had a knife. And what did you do? You lied!" She huffed again. "You lied to my niece and nephew that it was a misunderstanding. That you would never want to kill me. That we are 'friends.' If anything, you are a psychopath for wanting to kill me."
Lean stayed silent. Then she said, "I should have killed you when I had the chance."
The aunt suddenly burst out laughing. She held her stomach, and tears streamed down her red cheeks. Her laughter sounded a bit creepy.
"Ha!" Katrina exclaimed. "You definitely had a chance to kill her! Our Lubriem. She is dead because of you!"
The ghost responded, "And you put your niece and nephew in a mental asylum. You set them up."
