Chapter Forty-Eight

"Please! Save him! Please! I am begging you!"

Cindy was outside of the room where doctors and nurses were desperately trying to assist and possibly save her boyfriend Caleb. She was so worried about him. She was biting her fingernails and the skin on her fingers.

"Why? Why did Caleb have to be the one to get shot?" she mumbled under her breath. "I know...I know that Dr. Maxwell was not aiming for him, but...nobody deserves to be shot unless it is self-defense."

She watched intently through the big window that separated her from her boyfriend and teared up as she realized that large amounts of blood were running off the bed and falling on the floor.

"Caleb!" She tried holding back her tears as she pounded her fists against the glass. "Why are those doctors not doing anything to stop his bleeding?!"

The doctors and nurses soon stepped away from Caleb and the bed that he was resting on.

Cindy was praying that he was just resting and nothing more.

She stopped with the pounding and was breathing hard, as if she had just finished running a marathon. She had her eyes on one of the doctors, and the doctor checked his wristwatch and said something. But Cindy did not know the exact words that he said because of the window.

She feared for the worst.

One of the nurses opened the door and stepped out of the room.

"Cindy? Cindy Banks?" the nurse said.

"That is me!" Cindy ran up to her, and her mouth was shaking. "I-I am Cindy Banks."

The nurse fiddled with her fingers. "I am so sorry..."

"No...no!"

"Caleb Night passed away a few seconds ago."
