Chapter Five
The nightmare had finally come to an end. After I let out a cry of pain and collapsed to the floor of the stage, my dad shouted, "You will pay for that!" and shot all three of the men in their backs. None of them said anything when they realized that they themselves had one or more bullets planted in the backs. Their guns slipped out of their grasps, and the leader let go of Dejah and fell on his stomach. The other two collapsed on theirs as well, and all of them had their eyes shut.
My first thought was...were they dead?
Being a Christian, I prayed that they were not. On the other hand, they did give me and my classmates a scare and were attempting to murder Dejah. I, however, managed to save Dejah.
"Dejah!" Dejah's father called to her as he put away his gun and held out his arms.
"Daddy!" Dejah called back as she ran to him and embraced him in a hug.
I was lying on my side and watching the bond between the two. I smiled at the sweet and relieving sight before closing my eyes and waiting for what would happen next.
"Eleanor!"
"Eleanor!"
Hearing my name, I opened my eyes and surveyed my surroundings. Light. There was bright light from above. I was outside, and the sun was casting its yellow light on me, making my brain and my body wake up.
I was sitting on the grass with a brown blanket that smelled like something that was picked up from the landfill. My back was leaning against a brick wall of the school, and I felt something wrapping around me. Two somethings.
I looked down and forced myself to put on a smile. There were my younger sisters, Elena and Elaine. They had both of their arms wrapped around mine and looked sad.
"Eleanor!" the girls exclaimed in their sweetest voices as they buried their faces in my chest and stomach.
Elena and Elaine are the best sisters that I have ever known. Elena is eight years old, and Elaine is six years old. Even though that they are young and filled with energy almost every single day, they are helpful towards me and our dad and delightful to have around. Whenever I need someone to talk to, the two of them are always there for me and give me advice, even if their advices are not always right or do not work. They also help around the house. They can wash the dishes, clean their rooms with no problems, make certain meals, and much more.
Too bad that I cannot say the same for Leonard.
Leonard is my little brother and the youngest sibling. He is a complete nightmare to live with, and I am not exaggerating about that. He is five years old and the opposite of my sisters. He does not like to help me, our father, or his sisters. He acts like a spoiled brat - who am I kidding? He is a spoiled brat! - and picks on Elena and Elaine like a bully.
He treats me worse.
He is also a prankster and loves to prank me whenever he wants and can. One time, I went in my room, and my bedroom was entirely covered with melted cheese!
Melted cheese that is hard to get out!
It was all over the walls. The floor. My belongings. Even my stuffed animals.
Yes, I own stuffed animals. Deal with it.
I was so mad at him that day, especially because I was forced to replace my stuff that was taken by the monstrous cheese.
And do not begin to think that Leonard gets away with things like that.
My father knows him well and disciplines him in the best ways possible. He was grounded with no video games and no hanging out with friends for five whole months after his cheese prank.
I love my dad. He is full of love and fairness.
Speaking of Leonard, he was standing a couple of inches from me and our sisters. He was texting on his cellphone - yes, the spoiled brat owns a dang cellphone - and chewing and blowing bubblegum.
I decided to not even begin a conversation with him and talked with my two sisters. He would just ignore me anyway.
"Are you worried about me because I am hurt?" I asked the girls. From the corner of my eye, I saw Dad getting on his knees and examining my shoulder. Probably where I got shot.
Elena and Elaine looked back up at me with tears and snot covering their faces.
"Yes!" they replied in unison.
"I am going to make your favorite cookies! Chocolate chip!" Elaine said.
"I am going to clean your room for you!" Elena said.
I giggled softly. "I could not have asked for better sisters."
Elena and Elaine had long, brown hair like me and would be mistaken for identical twins. Elena wore a red dress that reached to her knees with red shoes and a red bow in her hair. Elaine wore a blue dress that was similar to her sister's with blue shoes and a blue bow in her hair.
Leonard did not seem that he should have been related to us. He had short, brown hair and was wearing a blue, long-sleeved shirt that had some stains on it. He also had on brown pants and blue shoes that matched his shirt.
"Dad! She is over here!"
I saw Dejah pulling her dad and a woman - I am assuming that was her mom - over to where I was. They now stood in front of me.
"Are you the girl who saved my daughter's life?" the dad asked.
I slowly nodded. "Yes, sir."
"Ah. Well, I am Roberto Danos..." He motioned to the woman next to him. "...and this is my wife, Gala Danos. We are Dejah's parents and wanted to praise you before we move first thing tomorrow."
