Chapter Thirty-One

If I were sick, I would have puked at the sight. The scene was disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. And I felt dirty just watching it.

My sister and my boyfriend, two people whom I trusted with all my heart, were playing me for a fool. Scarlett and Stanley had their arms wrapped around each other's waists, and their warm bodies touched. Their lips were touching and making out.

How could they do this to me? How...how long have they been cheating on me behind my back? The worst part was that they were doing it out in the open. To make the townsfolk aware that they were officially a couple?

I balled my hands into fists and desperately desired to punch something really bad. I wanted to pound on the window. Bang on the glass to get the attentions of my now ex-boyfriend and who I thought was my sister. They are dead to me. Dead!

Stanley and Scarlett pulled their lips back, and Stanley stroked her hair. He...he always did that to me and even mentioned how I had the best hair. What a liar and a cheat.

"That was one of your greatest kisses, Stanley," Scarlett stated.

"Not as good as yours," he responded.

She rested her head on his chest. "When do you plan on breaking the bad news to Margie? I am sick to death of hiding our relationship from her."

The feeling is mutual. I am sick to death of witnessing you two cheating on me!

"I know that you are, sweetheart. The same can be said for me. But we should not tell her until Dr. O'Fallon gives us the okay that her new heart is functioning well with her body."

"Then hopefully, Stanley, her heart will be used to its new surroundings very soon. I already confessed to Skippy, who is now my ex-boyfriend, that we had to move on."

Dang. Poor Skippy.

Stanley leaned over, and he and Scarlett went back to making out. I could not stand it any longer. I pushed myself away from the window and covered my eyes with my palms, preparing to cry. I felt violated. I felt that I lost a part of me tonight. My boyfriend and my sister betrayed me.

I was debating whether or not to confront them when I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I uncovered my eyes and spun around. I was not alone anymore. Enoch was by my side.

Without putting much thought into it, I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him tightly. Enoch placed his gentle hands on my back and asked me what was the matter.

"I am being cheated on with my boyfriend."

"You mean that Stanley guy?"

I pulled away, ending the hug, and nodded. "Stanley is cheating on me, and you will never believe with who."

"Hmm...your worst enemy?"

"I wish." I sniffed and wiped my nose with the back of my hand. "It is my older sister. He is cheating on me with my sister, Scarlett."

"Oh, I know everything that there is to know about Scarlett. Her looks. Her personality. She is no fun."

I motioned to the window. "Why in the world would she do this to me? I would have never thought that she was capable of doing something so cruel."

"Did you not lie to her all the way back in book one?"

"That was different. I had this feeling that we were destined to be here in Forlot. If I admitted to her what I knew, she would have stayed behind and made sure that I did the same."

"Yet your sister was devastated that you lied."

"We had never lied to each other before, so it was a huge deal for her."

"You had to apologize for what? For trusting your instincts?"

"I tried explaining to her my side of the story, but she did not want to hear it."

"Probably because she cannot understand you or where you are coming from."

"Yeah. Before I had my surgery, Scarlett and I made up. She promised that she and our parents would make the attempt to understand me and my reasonings."

"I do not buy that now that we know that she has been playing you behind your back."

I shrugged. "Why do I get the feeling that she neither loves nor cares for me?" I tilted my head to the side. "Hold up. Do you have something to do with this cheating relationship?"

"Why would you think that, Margie?"

"Towards the end of the last chapter, I offered to be your friend, and you refused. You said that us being friends was not good enough for you."

His face saddened. "I am sorry for saying that. I really am. I was furious and did not choose my words carefully. But I swear that I had nothing to do with Stanley cheating on you with Scarlett."

I tapped my fingers on my chin. "Hmm..."

"If you do not believe me, Margie, go in there and confront them. Get them to admit the truth."

"Alright. I will." I wrapped an arm around his. "And you are tagging along for the ride."

Enoch had no problem coming with me and held the cafeteria door open for me. We hurried inside and to the table where Stanley and Scarlett were sitting at. No one else was at that table. Just them. They were sitting next to each other, and their elbows touched. They were eating and laughing.

Laughing about what? How stupid I was for not being suspicious of them?

Enoch and I stormed to the table, and my sister and my boyfriend - I mean, my ex-boyfriend - were taken by surprise.

"Sis," Scarlett said. "You are out of bed. Out of your room."

"Hi, baby," Stanley called me. "Even when you are a mess, you remain the most beautiful."

"Cut the act, Stanley," I ordered. "I know all about your secret relationship."
