Chapter Twenty-Three
Did you readers sob during that last chapter? Admit it. Here. Have a tissue. Oh, wait. I am trapped in this book series, so I cannot give you a tissue. Go fetch one.
Calvin had gotten two tissues, one for me and one for him. I wiped my tears and blew into my tissue. I asked if her boyfriend made it, and she shrugged.
"I honestly am unsure if he will survive this time. He beat leukemia the first time, but just towards the end of last year, it returned, and he has been fighting it since. He stopped visiting me, but not because he is afraid of me or despises me. He lives in the hospital and has not stepped out ever since that he received the devastating news."
"Poor Carter," I said. "I thought that you were going to say that he gave up on you and put you in his past. I was about to call him a big jerk regardless of his cancer."
"Carter is the greatest thing in my life. When he was told that I was responsible for his leukemia, he did not stop loving me. No matter how hard his parents tried to forbid him from seeing me, he always found a way to visit me and reassure me that I was not a monster and compliment on my looks and outfit...even though that I have been wearing the same dress for years."
"I am glad that there is someone in your life that loves you despite your flaws," Calvin commented. "I apologize in advance for bringing this up, but you stated that you killed all your family members. How did you do that?"
It was Jorgina's turn to cry. "I did not mean to kill them off. People say that I am a killer...but I am not!" She coiled her thumb and fingers and slammed her fist against the wall. "Ow!" She hissed and massaged her injured hand. "Why do I keep doing that?!"
Calvin fetched another tissue and handed it to her. She reached with a shaking hand and snatched it. She blew into it and apologized for snatching. She only did that because the last thing that she needed was to infect anyone else.
The day that they died was also her cousin's birthday. Her fairly large family had the birthday party at Jorgina's house and the best time of their lives...up until the point where Jorgina and her cousin had a huge fight. Remember that Jorgina at this time was six years old. Her cousin was eight years old. Carter would have attended the party if he were not stuck at the hospital, which was a blessing in disguise.
Jorgina and the cousin were tugging the knife back and forth and arguing.
"It is my birthday! I get to cut the first slice of the cake!"
Jorgina hopped up and down. "I wanna do it!"
"Your cousin is correct, Jorgina," Jorgina's mom said. "And where is your face mask? You are supposed to be wearing one."
Then the cousin said something that pushed Jorgina over the edge. She yanked the knife away.
"You are in trouble now because you have to wear a face mask. You have to wear a face mask because you are a freak."
Jorgina went into full ape mode and clenched her teeth. She tackled her cousin to the ground and was now lying on top of her. The knife slipped from the cousin's fingers.
"Jorgina! Stop!" Jorgina's dad cried.
Then Jorgina sneezed on her cousin. Normally, a sneeze is not the end of the world. You can get sick if somebody sneezed on you, but medicine can make the sickness go away faster. The problem was that Jorgina was behind the sneezing fest and continued sneezing. She accidentally sneezed on all her family members.
When she realized what she did, Jorgina slowly stood and shook in fear. The sight was unbearable for her, and she covered her eyes with her hands. She repeated how sorry she was and prayed that they would be alright. Later that day, all of them died.
Thanks to Carter's parents, Jorgina was admitted to the mental asylum. They told the ones who run the asylum that she murdered her entire family. Even though that it was technically true, it was too much of an assumption. She did not shoot or stab them. Yet she was labeled as a murderer.
"I am still surprised that Carter does not believe the lies," Jorgina said. "He knows that it was not my intention to kill off my family."
"I am sorry for your losses," I said. "As a princess of Forlot, if there is anything that I can do for you, please do not hesitate to ask."
"I already have a request."
"Good. What is it?"
She wrapped her thumb and fingers around two of the bars and tugged on them. "Get me out of here! Do you know how tiring it is to remind the guards that you are allergic to almost everything?"
I could not help but giggle. "I know just how you feel."
Calvin grabbed ahold of the same bars that Jorgina had touched and bent them sideways until there was a gaping hole big enough for her to scurry through.
"I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Jorgie and Calvin. May I request something else?"
"Anything that you want as long as it is not stupid," I said.
"Could you take me to the hospital? I want to see Carter."
"No problem," Calvin said.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you. I need to see him as soon as possible because...um...promise that you two will keep this a secret until I tell Carter?"
I ran a hand through my hair. "Depends. Is it good or bad?"
"Well...I am keeping the baby."
Calvin and I glanced at each other, and then back at her.
She smiled a little. "I am pregnant."
