Chapter Thirteen

My writer says this from time to time because of people who are as dumb as rocks. You will never truly know what another individual is going through unless you go through it yourself. That may sound harsh to some of you, but it is the fictional reality. A bully who picks on people who are blind, such as me and the little girl, does not know how difficult it is to not see until he or she becomes blind him or herself.

I cannot say the same for me. When it comes to diseases and conditions, I understand them all. I feel sorry for you to go through whatever it is not because I am blessed that I do not have it. But because I know exactly how life is when you are blind. When you are deaf. When you are paralyzed. And yeah. It stinks. Just be glad that you do not have Tenomeya using you as his puppet.

"You know what?" I said. "I guessed that your pupils are that way because you are blind."

"That is not surprising," the girl replied. "You are Jorgie Special. You understand those who have or have had awful viruses and conditions."

I bent my knees so that my face was leveled with hers and patted the top of her head. "If you do not mind me asking, how long have you been blind?"

"Not at all. You are my favorite character." She stretched out her arms to give me a good idea how long. "All my life."

"So you have never seen anything. Not even your family and friends. I am deeply sorry."

"You do not have to be sorry, Jorgie." My gosh. The way that she kept saying my name was adorable! "Being blind is not the worst thing in the world. I have no friends because my classmates at my school think that I am a freak, and my mommy is mean to me. I keep imagining that she is a witch."

"You poor thing. What about your father? And how does your mother treat you?"

The girl explained to me of her past. She believed that she was a mistake because her mother reminded her of that whenever she was ticked. Her mother and father did not plan on having kids. They were not even married. But when the mom was pregnant with her, she and the dad had to pitch in and support their new daughter.

At first, they planned on giving the blind girl up for adoption, but when the mom did some research and found out about child support, she hatched a selfish plan. She murdered the father, got away with it, and moved away from their hometown to the town that was next to Forlot.

The little girl admitted that she ran away. That is why she was in Forlot. She hated her mother and wanted nothing to do with her. I scooped her up and held her in my arms. Her situation reminded me of mine when Jorga and I had neglectful parents.

"Will you help me?" she asked me. "I want to have a new mommy and daddy. They have to be nice and give me lots of attention. Ooh! And they have to let me eat chocolate every day."

I giggled and said, "How could I say no to you?"

You readers are probably wondering why her biological mom wanted her child despite the fact that she could care less about her. Child support, of course. She needed to have the girl in order to receive the money. She uses the money on herself.

"Jorgie!" I heard my common sense call to me.

My brain was brought back to the first situation that was at hand, and I spun around. The emotions floated to me and asked me what the hold up was. Before I could tell of the obvious girl in my arms, they noticed the obvious girl.

"Oh, no," Hope said. "I have lost all hope in humanity. Jorgie was pregnant all along and gave birth next to Nigel's house."

The other emotions, as well as I, gave her looks that meant that she was out of her flipping mind.

Faith placed a hand on Hope's forehead. "You do not have a fever."

"What are you thinking, Hope?" Charity demanded. "Unless Jorgie and Humor - I mean, Calvin - got it on, Jorgie would not be pregnant. She and that young girl are not even the same color."

The little girl raised a hand. "Excuse me," she spoke. "Would any of you be interested in taking care of me?"

Common Sense smiled at her. "You are a sweetheart. Are you an orphan?"

"What is an orphan?"

"A child who does not have a mom or dad."

"Does it count if the mommy is a psychopath?"

"Well, yeah. Psychopaths are not supposed to be parents at all."

I glanced at her. "You never told me your name."

"That is because I do not like the name that my idiot mommy gave me."

"You can change your name if you would like," Faith encouraged her. "We will not stop you."

"Really? Thanks! I hate being called Wiley."

The emotions and I looked at one another, and then back at her.

"Correct me if I am wrong..." Hope started. "...but I do believe that Wiley is a boy's name."

"Mommy gave me a boy's name because she wanted to make me miserable. She also hates that I am blind. One time, she tried to put cooking oil in my eyes, but I managed to knock her unconscious."

I set her down and held her hand. "And you did not think to run away then?"

"I was a baby."

Charity, Faith, and Hope were outraged and began thinking of death threats to send to the mother. Common Sense frowned at them and told them to shut up.

"Bad news," he notified us. "Three viruses have shown up. And they are coming our way."
