Chapter Fourteen
Viruses? Three of them? That could only mean one thing. Tenomeya was going to cause me misery yet again while I was on my mission. I wanted to ask my common sense if he knew the names of the viruses, but the crew and I were in a hurry.
Common Sense grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me to Nigel's house. I kept a good grip on the little girl's hand. No way would I leave her in the face of danger.
Along with the other emotions, we all squeezed through the front door, and Faith slammed it behind us and remarked how that was a close call.
"We are not out of the woods yet with those viruses," Common Sense informed us. "Jorgie's Tenomeya unleashed them, and they must be patrolling the streets. We will have to be careful when we are outside from now on."
I decided that now would be the perfect time to ask him my question. "Who are the viruses?"
"You, Charity, Hope, and Faith should be familiar with two of the viruses. The third one is fairly new. He goes by the name of Covid-19."
"'Covid-19'?" I repeated.
"'Covid-19'?!" the other three emotions exclaimed in unison.
Common Sense locked eyes on them. "By how you reacted, I assume that you know who he is."
"How could we not?" Charity said. "He is the worst and scariest virus that this world has had to deal with."
The girl's hand slipped from mine, and she wrapped her arms around one of my legs. "Jorgie?"
"Yes? By the way, we should give you a much better name."
"I am still thinking on my new name. Anyway, why are your friends talking in some kind of code? Are they nuts like my mommy?"
"Oh, no. If they acted just like your mommy, I would not be friends with them, now would I?"
"Yeah. You are right about that. Jorgie Special could never get along with condition haters."
"Jorgie, are you listening?" I heard Common Sense say.
"Oh!" I shifted my head to him. "Sorry. I was talking with my new friend."
The little girl jumped up and down. "We are friends! The Great Jorgie and I are besties!"
My common sense placed a finger on his lips and shushed her. He explained to us that we needed to keep quiet if we wished to not be attacked by those Fearlings or found by the viruses. He went on that Covid-19, most notability known as Coronavirus, is one of the most dangerous viruses. Worst than the flu. You would automatically know which virus was Covid-19 because he wears a golden crown on his head.
Tenomeya practiced how to make Covid-19 and unfortunately succeed. Thank gosh that viruses that Tenomeya create do not spread to the ones close to me. Sadly, the same cannot be said for you real worlders. Covid-19 is serious and must be treated that way. The virus is able to spread from person to person, and you do not want your loved ones to suffer through it, now do you?
"Wait a minute," Faith said. "I just realized something. If Jorgie has all the diseases from the real world...does that mean that she—"
She was cut off by me screaming my heart out. I felt pain in my chest. It was as if a pile of rocks was resting on me. At first, I thought that I was experiencing another heart attack, but the look of concern on Common Sense's face made me realize how wrong I was.
I dropped to my knees and uttered, "What...is wrong with me...?"
"Jorgie?" the girl choked out, her voice cracking.
"Please tell me that Jorgie is having a heart attack or an asthma attack," Hope stated. "I know that both are bad to go through, but we at least have knowledge of those."
Common Sense rushed to my side. "Her heart is not the organ that is being affected. Her lungs are. And I am afraid that it is not an asthma attack."
"Noooooooo!" Charity, Faith, and Hope whined. "Curse you, Covid-19! We hope that you go to—"
He interrupted them. "Language."
"What did Jorgie ever do to deserve this?" Charity questioned. It was directed to the universe.
"Do the real worlders hate Jorgie that much to give her another problem to deal with?" Faith complained.
My common sense grabbed me by under the arms. "She will have to go in a fear bubble. Covid-19 will not last long inside a fear bubble. The same goes for all diseases and conditions."
By that point, any strength that I once had was sucked out of me. I was as lifeless as a dummy. I watched with my eyelids lowered halfway as he dragged me to a fear bubble, Nigel's fear bubble, and tossed me in. He said to help Nigel with his fear so that I would be able to get out easier.
I landed on my stomach and grunted. Pitch black surrounded me once again. I tried to move. I tried to get up. But Covid-19 was holding me down. The only thing that I could do was call for help.
"Help..." I said meekly. "...help..." I was on the verge of tears, for the pain was difficult to take.
Then I overheard the sounds of feet slapping against the black floor. I uttered a cry when I felt somebody tripping over my legs. The person landed with a loud thud! and moaned.
I figured that it had to be Nigel. "Nigel?"
Nigel sat up and rubbed the back of his neck. He glanced at what - or in this case, who - he had tripped over and was surprised to see me.
"Jorgie? What are you doing here? And why are you breathing heavily?"
"Two words," I replied. "Stupid virus."
Out of the blue, we heard noises coming from afar.
"It is them," Nigel whispered.
