Chapter Five

"Is she...?"

"No. She is not dead. I just checked her pulse a minute ago."

"What does she need?"

"Are you three aware of her condition?"

"Absolutely. That is why I asked."

"Guys! She is waking up."

My eyes fluttered open, and I saw Common Sense. He was floating in front of me and seemed concerned.

"Jorgie? Are you alright?"

"I...I think so," I said. I attempted to get on my feet when I came to the realization that I could not feel my legs. This only meant one thing. I was paralyzed yet again.

"That was my next question. If you can move your legs. But it is obvious enough that you cannot use them, so I brought you your wheelchair."

My wheelchair was by me, and Common Sense put his arms under mine, hoisted me up, and set me in the wheelchair.

"There. Comfortable?"

"Yes. Thank you, Common Sense."

"You are very welcome, Jorgie. I am just glad that I was able to get your wheelchair in this closet."

"Closet?" I repeated, raising an eyebrow. "You and I are in a closet?"

"A cramped closet, yes. And we are not the only ones hiding in here."

"Hold up. We are hiding? From who?"

"Who else? Fear."

I let out a horrified gasp. A chill shot down my spine, and I felt as if I were on pins and needles. I do not know why, but I started hyperventilating, and it only hurt my chest.

"Jorgie." Common Sense gripped my shoulders. "Do not allow the fear to take control of you. If you do, Fear and his Fearlings will surely find us."

He was right. I was letting the fear get the best of me.

I forced myself to stop hyperventilating and breathed in and out slow and deep breaths. That helped out my chest a lot, and my body relaxed.

"Nice work, Jorgie. Now, allow me to introduce you to the emotions will take down Fear."

He motioned to the three new emotions who were also hiding with us. They were pink, dark red, and purple. My eyes widened as they introduced themselves.

"Hi. I am Charity," the pink emotion greeted. "In case that my name was not that obvious, I stand for love."

"A pleasure to meet you, Jorgie," the dark red emotion said. "I am Faith, and this is my sister..." She motioned to the purple emotion. "...Hope."

Hope saluted to me. "It is an honor."

I smiled and waved. "I am assuming that you three are good."

"We are more than good," Charity stated. "We are three of the keys that everyone needs to be truly happy. You need me, Charity, Faith, Hope, Common Sense, Anxiety and Guilt - the good kinds - and most importantly, Humor."

Hope sighed sadly. "Too bad that we cannot test our new power. Guilt is working with Fear, and Anxiety and Humor were kidnapped by the Fearlings."

The last part of that sentence, the Humor part, made me tear up. I was not happy without Humor. He was...well, my humor. And his duty was to protect me and never let me feel gloomy. Now that he was gone...I was sad. No. Depressed.

"How are you feeling, Jorgie?" Common Sense asked. "Hearing of Humor's absence must be hard for you. It is hard for me too, so I completely understand."

"How...? Why...?" I was sputtering out words, for I did not know what to say.

Common Sense rested his hand on top of my mine. "It was all a blur. It happened so fast. Not only did Fear take Humor, but he also took Anxiety and your guests."

"No...no..." I buried my face in his chest.

"Shh." He patted and rubbed my back. "Fear and his minions might have ruined your occasion, but that does not mean that they have to ruin your night."

"Yeah," Faith agreed. "Common Sense, Hope, Charity, and I will help you free your friends, including your sister."

I looked up at them. "Thank you. I would love that."

"Ooh!" Charity clapped her hands excitedly. "That is my territory."

"There is just one slight problem," Hope confessed sadly. "We do not have Bravery."

"Bravery?" I looked back at Common Sense.

"They mean the emotion Bravery. He is a golden yellow and as big as Fear. That is, until Fear kidnapped everybody and is feeding them on their fears."

"Oh, no."

"Fear kidnapped Bravery and is holding him against his will," Charity explained. "The only way to save him and everyone else is to convince your friends to conquer their fears. The less fears, the weaker that Fear will be."

"Then what are we waiting for?" I said. "Let us move out!"

Common Sense opened the closet door, and I rolled out on my wheelchair. The four emotions were behind me, and we all hurried out of the castle.

"Stop," Common Sense ordered us.

"Why?" I asked. "We have a ton of saving to do."

"I know. That is why I created a list of people that we need to save first. Their fears are the strongest, so if we deal with those first, it will become much easier in the long run."

"Great idea," Charity complimented. "Who do you have on the list?"

"First, we will go to Mr. Hawk's mansion and help Margie and Scarlett. Also, I wrote down which fears people have."

"What are Margie's and Scarlett's fears?" I wondered.

"Easy to tell. Margie fears to be different, and Scarlett fears for her sister."

"We had better get going," Faith insisted. "Or the fears will get worse."

We went on our way and soon made it to the mansion. We peered in through the windows, and it was dark inside.

"Be careful," Common Sense warned us as he floated to the front door. "There could be little Fearlings guarding them. So watch your back." He grasped the doorknob and slowly opened the door.

We went inside - and heard a screeching sound.
