Chapter Eighteen

The twins did not have to battle Fear's vision of the Creature From Beyond. Feeling brave was enough for the light to appear and for the bubble to pop. We were back in the real town of Forlot, and my Tourette's syndrome had switched off.

"Thank goodness," I commented.

Nigel, the little girl, and the emotions gathered around us and helped us off the floor. The emotions complimented on my work so far, and my common sense announced that we had to leave.

"What about my girlfriend Maxine?" Nigel asked. He had discovered which fear bubble was Maxine's. "We cannot go without getting her out. She must be frightened."

"Do not worry, Nigel. She cannot be that frightened," Common Sense reassured him. "Her fear is not as big as yours and Hansel and Gretel's were. Now we had better get going." He took note of Hansel and Gretel. They seemed to be scanning the place. "Are you two looking for something?"

"Not something. Someone," Gretel corrected him.

"We are looking for our sister," Hansel added. "Our parents adopted her. She is a baby, and her name is Thumbelina."

"Your folks were at my coronation," I stated a fact. "Did they bring Thumbelina?"

Hansel scratched the side of his head. "Yes, but Thumbelina was with Kara when Fear showed up."

"Then we will have to locate Kara."

His sister played with a strand of her hair with her finger. "I am fine with waiting, and so should my brother. Despite that Thumbelina is in a fear bubble, I am positive that she will not have to deal with any fears."

Common Sense put his hands behind his back and floated to them. That is when he confessed the troubling news. Trapped in a fear bubble would at least keep a baby safe. However, Fear did not feed on the babies and young children because they do not have fears or even juicy ones. So Fear just allowed the babies and young children to wander around the town and did not care if they got hurt or even killed.

"Basically, our baby sister is probably crawling on the streets all alone," Hansel said.

My common sense shrugged. "Maybe. Maybe not."

"Not a yes or no? Just maybe?"

"We have to find her and fast," Gretel said. "She is too innocent and too precious to have something bad happen to her."

Off we went! Well, we had only gotten to the lawn. I grabbed ahold of the little girl's hand, and we returned to the outside world. When we were on the front lawn, the girl reminded me of Margie and Scarlett.

"Jorgie," she said. "What about those two people that your friends were going to find?"

I was startled when I heard her say that and shouted to the others. "Guys! We have to go back and find Margie and Scarlett!"

"We forgot to tell you about that!" Charity yelled back. "We searched everywhere in that house and never found them!"

"Did you not check the attic?"

"We did!" Nigel confirmed. "No Margie or Scarlett!"

Something did not feel right. The girls were forced in Nigel's house by two tentacles. Maybe the tentacles belonged to a monster? Was the monster not in the house? Did it leave? Where did it go?

As if he could read my mind...

Wicked laughs could be heard from above our heads. We raised our eyes to the sky and immediately spotted three people floating. They resembled emotions like Humor and Common Sense. The only difference was that these were not emotions. These were viruses. The viruses that were patrolling the streets.

I guess that the only good thing about running into them - if you can call it good - was that they had two hostages tied together with a rope. Margie and Scarlett.

"Margie! Scarlett!" I cried. The girls were wide awake and gagged with cloths.

"We were not able to help but overhear that you wanted your friends back," the virus holding Margie and Scarlett spoke. "We will be more than happy to release your friends on one condition."

I huffed and crossed my arms. "What is the condition?"

"You and the good emotions there..." He motioned to Common Sense and the new emotions. "...will come with us and surrender yourselves to Fear."

"Those are two conditions," Faith pointed out.

"How dumb do you think that we really are?" Hope questioned him. "Of course, we are not taking that deal. We will never give up."

I narrowed my eyebrows at the viruses. "Who are you anyway?"

"I am Covid-19. I am Fear's commander and always wear my crown wherever I go. With me are my best friends Flu and Stupidity."

"Stupidity is a virus?"

"It is in this day and age," Common Sense stated.

"I am offended that a white person and a black person are friends," Stupidity said. "The white girl should be a slave to the black girl."

"Is...is he referring to me and the little girl?" I said.

"It is no wonder that you were named Stupidity," the girl piped in. "You are as dumb as a rock."

I smiled at her. "Dumber than a rock."

"Enough!" Flu exclaimed. "If you do not do what we say, my friends and I will infect the girls. They will have the flu, coronavirus, and stupidity. Hahaha!"

Margie's cloth slid down from her mouth. "You messed with the wrong sisters!"

She spit in Covid-19's eye, and Covid-19 accidentally let go of her and her sister. Unfortunately, they did not even touch the grass because Flu and Stupidity caught them.

"Nice try, Monster Protector," Stupidity said. "You are totally getting the flu. Right, Flu?"

"You are absolutely right."

My hand shot up. "Wait!"

Covid-19 freed his eye from the spit, and he and the others looked at me.

"Do not give Margie and Scarlett the flu or stupidity or coronavirus," I pleaded. "Take me instead. Trade them for me."
