Chapter Twenty-Six
PAIGE'S P.O.V.
Orange's little hands shot up. "Are you kidding?! You forgot which way?!"
"I would never forget anything that puts our lives at risk."
I processed that statement. "Blue?"
"Yes, Paige?"
"What did you mean by that? That this situation puts us in danger?"
He huffed and crossed his arms. "Paige, I am unsure why you would waste your breath. I was referring to risky situations. You know. Stunts that humans with common sense would never do."
"Blue, are you trying to hide the fact from Paige and Bailey that a monster lives in the Cave of Prayers?" Purple spoke up as loud as he could.
"Monster?!" Bailey and I shouted in unison.
Blue's arms slowly uncrossed as he frowned at the timid fairy. "Why the crub did you rat me out?"
Orange sided with Purple. "I am happy that he ratted you out." She ruffled Purple's fur. "You did good."
"Did it ever occur to you that maybe there was a reason why I kept the monster a secret from Bailey and Paige? I expected Orange to rat me out."
"I was planning to had Purple not beat me."
"But you, Purple. I held high standards for you. God put me in charge. I am the leader of this operation, not you or Orange."
"We are a team, Blue. Yes, God made you the leader, but we need to work together. How will you be able to defend yourself without me? How will you be able to show compassion without Purple? A leader can do great things. A leader with his or her friends can do greater things."
His eyelids lowered halfway, and he sighed. "You are right, Orange. How could I have been so blind?"
She wrapped her little arms around him. "Purple and I forgive you. More importantly, God forgives you."
It was Purple's turn to be frustrated. "Unbelievable!" he declared. "I was wondering when you all would notice the monster behind me! Talk about as blind as a bat."
Blue, Orange, Bailey, and I glanced in his direction - and were greeted by the scariest monster that I had ever laid eyes on. It probably can be said the same for Bailey.
Literally. The monster was waving at us. I thought that it was one of those friendly monsters. It was fluffy and looked kinda cute - until it asked if it could eat us. And yes. It was fluent in English.
Purple faced the monster and cowered in fear. "Oh, Mr. Monster. Please. Pretty please spare me and my friends. You would not enjoy us. We are disgusting. All the blood and fairy dust."
"'Fairy dust'?" I repeated.
"That is what comes out when we fairies go to the restroom," Orange whispered.
"Cool!" Bailey said. "I mean, gross."
The monster was so tall that it touched the ceiling of the cave. It was furry and black and had purple claws on its hands and feet. Orange horns were on either side of its head, and his green eyes glowed in the darkness. The smile was what pushed me over the edge. It gave me the creeps and sent a chill down my spine. In addition, the monster was showing off its teeth. Its pure white teeth.
"Hey," I said. "How come your teeth are not yellow and jagged?"
"I brush my teeth three times a day."
"Hate to be that person..." Bailey piped in. "...but you only need to brush your teeth two times a day."
"Monsters are prescribed to brush three times. You would not believe the stains that blood leaves."
Without warning, the monster grabbed me by the waist. It brought me close its mouth as I struggled to break free. I punched and kicked. I even bit! Alas, nothing was working.
Bailey flapped her wings and floated in the air. "You put her down this instant! Or I will...do something!"
"What are you going to do, human? Last time that I checked, you humans are powerless!"
Powerless? That was it! We were not humans. Not since that we drank the wrong potion. We possessed any powers imaginable.
"You did a miscalculation, pal," I said. "We are the Prayer Warriors! Which means that I..." I rested my palms on his gripping hand. "...should be able to do this!"
My hands became cold as ice flowed from my palms and covered the monster's hand.
"What are you doing to me?!" the monster shrieked.
"What Prayer Warriors are supposed to do. Fight for freedom!" I replied.
The ice did not stop at the wrist. It crawled up the arm and worked its way down the monster's body. The monster that once creeped me out was now encased in ice. I stuck out my tongue at the creature, broke free, and flew to Bailey. She was squealing.
"That was amazing, Paige! That monster messed with the wrong girl!"
I wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "It messed with the wrong superhero team," I corrected her.
Her eyes locked on my hands. "You have the power to control ice! Lucky!"
"You have the same powers as her, Bailey," Blue said. "You can bend ice at will too."
"I can? I guess that makes us both lucky! I mean, blessed."
Orange shoved her phone in the pocket of her...fur? "Good news," she announced. "I just contacted God on my dandy cellphone, and He said that the tunnel to our left is where the room is."
"Body or viewing location?" Purple asked.
"Viewing. So if we are looking at the tunnels...." She paused and pointed at the left tunnel. "...that is it."
We walked down the tunnel.
"Can I interrupt your narration for a minute, Paige?" Orange said.
"By all means."
"Why are we walking when we all have wings? Flying would be faster."
"Alright."
We flew down the tunnel and discovered the room. There was not much of anything. Just two robes and two silver necklaces.
"You girls have a court date with destiny," Blue said.
