Chapter Thirty-Four

BAILEY'S P.O.V.

I could feel the color leave my face when Paige and I saw my older sister. Not only did she have her arms crossed and was tapping her foot and glaring at us, but she was also seeing us in our superhero forms. I knew that we could not talk our way out of this. My sister may be an atheist, but she is just as smart.

"So I finally found you two," Betsy said. "The middle of the road is the last place where I would find you."

"We are not in the middle of the road," Paige pointed out. She motioned to the sidewalk beneath our feet. "We are literally standing on the flippin' sidewalk."

"I am shocked that a Christian can tell the difference between a road and a sidewalk, considering that they believe in a false god."

"My God is as real as you and me, and you will learn the hard way if you do not examine your own heart."

"You should know better than to love some god who is okay with illnesses and killings."

"We have illnesses and killings because of sin. There is sin in the world."

"I believe that we ought to end this heated argument before we do something that we will regret," I stated. I took in a deep breath and faced my sister. "Bet that you want an explanation as to why we have wings."

"I was not that concerned about your costumes and the wings, but now that you have brought it up, I am curious. Why the heck are you and Paige dressed up as fairies? It is not Halloween yet."

I opened my mouth, but Paige slapped her hand over it. "Could you please give us a minute to discuss?"

"Discuss what?" Betsy challenged.

Before Paige could come up with a reasonable topic, three people - or should I say, fairy-like creatures - showed up. They were none other than Blue, Orange, and Purple. They had been flying in the purple sky and landed on the sidewalk between us and Betsy.

"Paige. Bailey," Blue said our names. "I am glad that we found you. Thank the Lord from above."

"I hope that this is a good time," Purple added.

"The heck are these?!" my sister demanded. She was pointing frantically at Blue and Orange and Purple.

The fairies spun around to look at Betsy.

"Guess that this is not the best time," Orange said.

Blue flapped his wings and lifted his small body until he was in front of Betsy's face. I wished that the fairy did not get close to her because I was afraid that she would harm him.

"Pardon my French," Blue began. "Why the heck are you here? The plot does not need you until Paige and Bailey retrieve the sword."

"Paige and I have to retrieve a sword?" I questioned.

Orange glanced up at us and nodded. "That is exactly why Blue, Purple, and I were searching for you. The evil is creeping closer and closer to this town. We do not have much time left."

"Why do we need some sword?" Paige asked. "Do we need it for battle?"

"We need to discover who the Red Soul is before the battle even begins. The sword in the Cave of Prayers is the only thing that will show who is truly the Red Soul."

Purple was shaking with fear. "D-do we have to go in the Cave of Prayers? W-what if we get lost?"

"Aw. You poor thing," Penny said. She snatched him up and cradled him in her hands.

Purple smiled. "C-can I stay with this blonde girl?"

"That blonde girl is my little sister," Paige said. "Her name is Penny."

Purple looked up at Penny. "Do you collect pennies? Is that why your name is Penny?"

Penny rubbed him against her cheek. "You are soooo cute!" She hopped over to Paige. "Can we keep him? Please? Can we keep him, sis?"

I watched as Paige got on her level and rested a hand on her shoulder. "I am afraid that you cannot."

"Aw! Why not?"

Purple said that, not Penny.

Blue checked his wristwatch and gasped. "We should go," he announced. "Time is slipping before our very eyes."

He and Orange and Purple took off. Paige and I were about to do the same, when I felt a thumb and a pair of fingers wrap around my wrist. Unfortunately for me, they belonged to Betsy.

"You are not going anywhere, sister of mine. I found you and am not losing you again."

"I am sorry, Betsy, but I have to go now. I am hoping that you will understand in the long run."

"I said that you are not going anywhere!"

What my sister did next took everybody surrounding her by surprise. She pulled out a pair of handcuffs - from somewhere - and cuffed me and her together. The worst part about all this? Betsy did not have the key on her.

For those of you who are nonbelievers, keep in mind that I am mad at Betsy not because she is an atheist, but because of what she did.

"Are you out of your flippin' mind?!" I shot at her.

"You are the one who is out of her flippin' mind," she shot back.

I did not have to guess that my face was turning red. "How the flip am I going to do my duty when you are in the way?!"

"You can still do your duty in the bathroom, Bailey. I will respect your privacy."

Is it bad that I want to smack her?

"I am not heading to the flippin' restroom! Paige and I are going to the Cave of Prayers!"

"And just what the heck is the Cave of Prayers?"

"I cannot tell you that."

"Why not?"

I was too angry to think about what to say. "My gosh! I am a Prayer Warrior! You are not! So there!"
