Chapter Forty-Two

My right arm made it out alright, however, I cannot say the same for my left arm. It was crushed underneath the pole and folded. Poor arm. Every time that I thought of that arm, it would hurt.

"Ow!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, my brain focusing on the broken arm. "Get me out. Please."

"Yes, yes. Of course," the real worlder replied. "My apologies for not trying to get you out sooner. It is not every day that you see a person trapped under a pole, and..." She was catching her breath. "...I am always in a state of shock when things like this happen. Why, just the other day—"

"Sorry to interrupt you and to come off as ungrateful, but can you please stop with the chatting and get on with saving me?"

"Yes, yes. I am sorry." She spread her feet out and slipped her palms under the pole. "For someone who is stuck underneath this, you sure are calm."

"I will tell you a secret. I am calm only because my chest will ache if I scream like last time." I began panting. "I...am sticking to...panting."

"Hang on. I will have you out faster than you can say xxsdffyjnvdcr."

"...girl, that is not even a word. Heck, there are no vowels in that so-called 'word.'"

The girl surprisingly had enough strength to raise the pole off my chest and stomach. She moved it away from me, set it down, and came back for me. I was impressed.

"How the crub could you lift that?"

"It was easy for me. I exercise at the gym three days a week."

"Are you not blessed? I exercise..." I took a quick glance at my legs. "...but am as skinny as a model."

"As long as you are healthy." She moved until she loomed over me. "I remember that you said that your arm was broken. Which one is it?"

I played with my right arm to let her know that it was not this one. After a moment or two, she put it together and hoisted me up by holding onto my good arm and my back. My left arm dangled. And gosh, it hurt.

"We should get you to the LotFor hospital as soon as possible."

I wanted to shake my head, but the muscles in my neck were aching, so I instead whimpered.

"No...not the LotFor hospital..."

"Protest as much as you want, Caleb. You are going to the hospital whether you like it or not. There is a good chance that you have some internal injuries."

I needed to tell her that she had to take me to the Forlot hospital, however, my breath caught in my throat. I was not breathing like normally and more than certain that one of my lungs, if not both, had been flattened and damaged.

Never have I felt this weak before. Even my anxiety did not make my body this weak and drain it this much. I was so tired that I desired to pass out and get some rest. I was so weak that the vegetarian had to wrap her arm around my shoulders and keep me upright. The bottoms of my feet were sick of walking. My eyelids were lowered halfway.

Thank the Lord from above that Cindy and the others found us. Cindy was the first to reach me and sad to see that I was doing awful. She held my face in her hands and gently pressed her lips against mine. A kiss was what I needed.

After the kiss, my girlfriend assisted the real worlder, so now both of them were helping me to the hospital. And thank my girlfriend that she told the real worlder that we had to go to our dimension to visit the Forlot hospital.

To make sure that I did not have to endure any more pain, Anti-Cindy created a portal that would be close to the hospital. The vegetarian, Cindy, and I went through first and picked up speed. The others were on our tail, and Anti-Cindy closed the portal.

Three surprise guests were waiting just outside of the hospital. Tamara and my son, Cal, and holding them was Kara. She was babysitting them.

"Caleb!" Kara exclaimed with relief and excitement. "The people of Forlot missed you." Her smile turned upside down. "What happened to you?"

"He saved my life," the vegetarian called to her. "He sacrificed himself to save me from a pole that had fallen."

"The doctors need to tend to him now!" Cindy added.

We were almost to the building, when I decided to look behind us...and realized that there was danger.

Four people, four grownups, had their backs facing me and were sitting on the street. Because their heads were down, they did not notice the two antis who were looming over them...and gripping laser guns.

I squinted at the scene and finally recognized the grownups. They were my and Joan's parents and Cindy's parents! Anti-Joan and Anti-Lorraine were planning on using those laser guns to shoot and kill them!

I could not allow that to happen! I...I know that my mom and dad left me for dead and that Mr. Banks and Mrs. Banks treated me unfairly and like a slave. But the Lord still loves them. He does not love what they put me through, but He loves them because they are His children.

God loves the sinner, not the sin. God loves the sinner, not the sin.

Without thinking on it much longer, I forced myself away from my girlfriend and the real worlder and ran to the scene unfolding.

I made it in time. I got between the parents and the antis, and Anti-Joan and Anti-Lorraine pulled the triggers. Lasers that were a mix of purple and black shot out from the guns and hit me.

My skin changed to purple - and shattered.
