Chapter Seven

MADISON'S P.O.V.

A cat had jumped over the tall fence and plopped his furry bottom on the grass. It licked its front paws as it stared at us.

Madeline was stroking Cuddly's fluffy belly. "Awe! A kitty cat!"

Like all cats, this cat was beautiful. It was split into two colors. Orange with brown stripes on the top, and white on the bottom. It eyes were a pretty green like Night's, and it had a bright pink nose.

"I am going to pet the cat," I announced.

My sister and I have our favorite animals. Mine are cats, especially kittens. I love everything about cats from their claws to their tails. I always dreamed of owning a cat. As long as he or she is friendly, I do not care what the cat looks like. He or she can have a missing ear or eye, and I would still love him or her.

It is a shame that the orphanage does not allow pets.

"Ow!" I stopped in my tracks and hissed in pain.

Night had bitten me!

The big bunny's two front teeth was penetrating my skin. It hurt like the dickens! I knew that a rabbit's teeth were powerful, but I never knew how powerful they were.

No matter how many times I begged Night to release my leg, he would not budge. I told Madeline that she would have to pry him off of me, but she was afraid that he would bite her too. Finally, Night let go of me and apologized.

"Sorry that I hurt you like that. But it had to be done that way."

I sat next to him and massaged the area on my leg. I was surprised that there was no bite mark. "Why the heck did you bite me?"

Night motioned to the cat with his paw. "He is the reason."

The cat finished licking his paws and jumped back on the other side of the fence.

"Oh, no," Madeline said sadly. "The kitty cat is gone. Sorry that you did not get to pet him, Madison."

Night wiped his forehead. "Phew. That was a close one."

My sister and I were confused. "What do you mean by a 'close one'?" I questioned.

"That cat bought it. He thought that I was harming you girls."

"But you hurt me. You bit me."

"Trust me. You would rather be bitten by me than be killed by that cat."

"I thought that house cats do not kill..." Madeline's voice trailed off.

"That was no house cat," one of the babies piped up. His voice was high-pitched - and adorable!

My sister squealed. "Oh my gosh. You are cute even when you talk!"

"The cat is a Kalaza," the baby bunny continued. "No doubt that he picked up both of your scents and was planning to finish you off."

She brought Cuddly close to her chest. Her body was shaking. "F-finish us off?"

"What is a Kalaza again?" I asked.

Night surveyed the backyard to make sure that we were not being watched before telling the real story of the animal kingdom. If you readers think that all animals are dumb, you would be wrong. Two-thirds of animals are as smart as humans and can speak all languages, including sign language.

These animals are nobody's pets. They are heroes - and villains. Kalazas are animals whose only goal is to wipe out the human race. They are not doing this to protect their environments or save the planet. It is just a part of their sick game. They do not value life and certainly not one another.

The leader of the Kalazas is unknown to the Settes, the good animals, but whoever it may be is up there with the most despicable humans in history. Like the government. The Settes, on the other hand, are the purest animals that you will ever find. They are filled with personalities. They are clever, funny, and value human life.

The Settes have four groups. The Day Animals are the ones who watch over the humans during the day. The Midnight Animals protect the humans at night. The Intelligent Animals live at the Sette Center and collect important data. And the Spy Animals break in the Kalazas' hideout to steal dangerous formulas.

Although that it is hard to decipher which animals are good or evil, there is a major difference between them. It is how they communicate. Thanks to Night and his baby rabbits, we already know that the Settes communicate with their mouths.

Surprisingly, Kalazas cannot talk using their mouths. They instead communicate using their minds. They can use their own voice or throw it to make it sound like a human's or another animal's.

The Kalazas date all the way back to the beginning of the world. Adam and Eve had a pet that they loved dearly. After sin entered, their pure pet began acting strangely. He disobeyed Adam and Eve. Drank their water. Ate their foods. Bit their butts. He went from a good boy to a bad boy.

Sick of their pet's rebellious behavior, Adam and Eve abandoned him. They left while he was taking a nap and were never seen again. Of course, the pet was upset when he realized that his owners were gone. Unfortunately for Adam and Eve, he was gifted with an excellent sniffer and hunted them down.

"I do not remember that part of the Bible," I said.

"Your Bible is the human version," Night answered. "Ours is the animal version. Every famous person in the Bible had a pet. Too bad that they all chose sin over God."

"Even the pets of good people? Like Moses?"

"Moses' pet almost destroyed the stone containing the Ten Commandments."

"What about Jesus' pet?" Madeline asked.

"Okay. Jesus' pet did not fall into sin. He just sniffed a lot of butts."

"So...when was the first Sette born?"

"He was born in 1998. His name is Mr. Gibbles."
