Chapter Two

FINNEGAN'S P.O.V.

I will begin by saying that I did not do it. I had nothing to do with the killings - although that Walker deserved it. I swear. I swear on my life that I never killed him or Mabel. I am not a murderer. I am not a psycho. Believe me. I would not want to hurt Yara. I...I love her.

I confess. I love Yara. I have been crushing on her for a year now. She is clueless despite that we are the best of friends. If she did, she would have never dated Walker. I am sad that Walker is dead, but he had it coming. His lifestyle was catching up to him. His choices made him what he always dreamed of being. A dead man. Well...I am positive that he never wished for death. He had the mentality that because he was "invincible," he could do whatever he wanted. He actually thought that he was a superhero. But he was far from a hero. He was a villain who used Yara and Mabel. I know it.

Walker was not good enough for Yara. He did not treat her like the queen that she is. I would be thankful for a girlfriend like her. There is nobody else like her.

I was getting dressed when my family - my huge family - made their way into my bedroom to break the news. I will not forget this moment. They repeated it five times so I could process it. So I would realize that it was true. They were not joking. They were surprised like me. My siblings were not playing a prank like that they usually do. Mabel and Walker were dead. Killed. And the killer was still walking free.

Who would ever want to kill Mabel and Walker? There must be a reason. I get Walker. But why Mabel? Mabel was gentle and curious. Well, her body was found lying by Walker's. Maybe she was with him when their killer showed. The murderer could not have witnesses, so he killed her too. Or was it random? Maybe said murderer was targeting people randomly. Easy targets. He might be killing people for the "fun" of it.

My family and I stared at each other for what felt like a century before I broke the eerie silence. "Yara. I should check on Yara. I am going to Yara's house."

I gazed up at my parents, awaiting their objection. Tell me to give Yara some alone time. But no. They nodded and scooted away from the doorway. I snatched up my phone and quickly slipped on my shirt. I thanked them and the rest of my family before racing out of my room and downstairs. I pushed open the front door and shut it behind me. I am in a rush, but I still have manners. I dashed down the sidewalk to Yara's house. I skidded to a stop when I saw the police car in front of her home.

Two officers came out of the house and turned around. Yara was in the doorway with a hand on the doorknob. Her parents were behind her while chatting with those cops. One of the cops mentioned my name. I needed to eavesdrop. I ducked behind a bush and cupped a hand around my ear. I hung onto every word.

"So you think that your friend Finnegan has something to do with the murders."

"I do not think. I know. And our friendship will be over if he is found guilty of murdering my boyfriend and my best friend. He is the only person that I know to have a motive. He hates Walker."

"What?!" I hissed. I was baffled by what came out from her mouth. "S-she thinks that I did it. She believes that I am responsible for their deaths. My best and only pal assumes that I am capable of such evil because Walker and I did not get along. I would never murder anybody no matter how selfish or twisted they are."

The other officer took off his cap and scratched the top of his head. "We will visit Finnegan's house to question him and search the property. I cannot promise that we will arrest him unless that we find significant proof."

I leaped up. "No need to stop by my place because I am here!"

Their eyes fell on me.

Yara stepped back and bumped into her parents. I saw the terror in her eyes even from afar. "F-Finnegan."

The cop put his cap back on and pointed at me. "Is this Finnegan?"

I beat Yara to it and stormed to the porch. "I am Yara's other friend, yes. And I can say without hesitation that I am innocent. I did not kill Walker or Mabel. I arrived home right after school and stayed there for the rest of the day. I helped my family and just relaxed. Ask them. Search the house if you feel the need to. I have nothing to hide."

The officer glanced back at Yara and her parents. "You mind if we question him in your house?"

I balled my hands into tight fists. They are acting as if I am the killer. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Guess that I must prove my innocence.

When Yara's parents obliged, I stormed past the five of them. I gazed in Yara's eyes and mouthed, "How could you do this to me?"

She whispered, "I would never have accused you if you liked or at least respected Walker."

I whispered back. "I apologize for not respecting a man - if you want to call him that - who set buildings ablaze with his friends and abused drugs while using people - like you and Mabel."

The terror in her eyes changed to fury. "I assumed that you were better than this, Finnegan. I thought that you wanted me to be happy."

"I do."

"Then why did you do it?!"
