Chapter Thirty-Two

The cheating couple glanced at each other and looked as if they had no idea as to what I was referring to, and then back at me. Scarlett was the first to question.

"What secret relationship, sis? Wait a second." She turned back to Stanley. "Have you been dating another girl without my sister knowing? Have you been cheating on my sister?"

"Scarlett, you know that I am too much of a gentleman to do something like that. I love Margie with every fabric of my being. Why would I want to break her heart?"

"They are lying to you," Enoch muttered to me. "You need to trick them into admitting the truth."

"Too late, Stanley," I said. "My heart is already broken thanks to you and my sister."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Scarlett held up her hands and shook them left and right. "What do I have to do with this? How did I shatter your heart?" She squinted at Enoch. "Who is he? A friend of yours?"

"He is my friend...for now." I slipped my hand into Enoch's. "And he might be my new boyfriend if what I witnessed is true."

"Margie." Stanley got up from the table. "I am confused, and I think that so are you. Could you please—"

I interrupted him. "I am not talking nonsense! I saw what I saw, and the lights in the cafeteria were not tricking me."

Scarlett slowly stood up and rested her palms on the table. "Margie, what could you have possibly witnessed that would have you out for me and the boy who cares about you?"

I moved closer to the table. "I watched the two of you from the window."

"The only window that is in the cafeteria is the wide one that..." Her voice trailed off, and her eyes bulged. "Were you outside?"

"Do not change the subject. I watched you and my boyfriend - ex-boyfriend - cuddling."

Stanley was outraged. "'Ex-boyfriend'?!"

"What are you talking about, sis? We did not cuddle. We were getting some snacks. See?"

She scooted her tray towards me, and I examined what was on it. A chocolate chip cookie and a bag of chips. One might assume that there was no suspicion, but I am not like most people. I pushed her tray back until it was at the center of the table.

"Where is your drink?" I demanded to know.

"I do not need a drink. I am not thirsty."

"Not thirsty, huh? You are not thirsty probably because you drank some of Stanley's saliva."

"What?!" they exclaimed in unison.

"Gross. No reason to say something like that," my sister added.

I put my hands on my hips. "Just like that there was no reason for you two to kiss each other?"

"Are you losing your marbles, Margie?" Stanley snapped. "Your sister and I did not kiss. We never have."

Scarlett drummed her fingers on the table. "What I want to know is why you are coming to us with such a silly accusation. You know me, Margie. I would never kiss your boyfriend."

I described the incident to them to corner them into confessing. They were intertwined with each other and making out like that there was no tomorrow. I even told them word per word what they had planned on doing.

"The two of you were going to break it to me that you are a new couple. After my new heart adjusted, you, Stanley, would break up with me."

"This is nuts. Your entire story is completely bonkers, Margie. I loved you then and still love you now."

I leaned forward and gave him a sickening glare. "If you love me like you claim, you will tell me the truth. Did you and Scarlett kiss? Do you love each other?"

Stanley was silent for a few moments. A sign that he was definitely cheating on me with my sister.

"Do not keep us and the readers in suspense!" Enoch shouted. "Did you or did you not kiss Scarlett Morgan?"

Stanley looked into my eyes. "Margie...I did not cheat on you with your sister or any other girl. You know why? 'Cause I love you."

I took in his words before speaking. "How can I know that what you are claiming is not a lie?"

"You said to tell you the truth if I truly love you. I love you. I would sacrifice my life for you."

A tear came out from the corner of my eye and slithered down my cheek. My brain was hurting because I was unsure whether or not to believe him. What if he was lying that he loved me? I saw him and my sister kissing...right?

"The facts do not lie, Stanley and Scarlett," Enoch commented. "It is unfortunate that Margie had to see you kiss because you do not care about her—"

"I do care!" Scarlett cut him off, slamming her palms hard on the table. "Margie hates that I hover over her because I care too much!"

"Hovering over your sister is not caring!"

"No! It is caring too much!"

"Enough!" I yelled. Scarlett and Enoch stopped arguing, and I added, "Someone is lying to me, and I will not sleep tonight until I discover who it is."

I accidentally kicked a tiny object, and it skidded to the wall. Stanley hurried to whatever it was and scooped it up.

"Margie. Scarlett. You need to see this."

He set the object in the middle of the table and pressed the red button. An image, a hologram, appeared above the object, and the four of us were surprised.

It was a hologram of Scarlett and Stanley kissing. They were in the same positions that I saw them through the window.

I knew what we were all thinking and would have said it if Scarlett had not beaten me to the punchline.

"Somebody set me and Stanley up."

"I did it. I set you up," Enoch piped up.
