Chapter Sixteen

I wished that I was at each scene and witnessed what the past Monster Protectors did to make Forlot a better town for the folks. One Monster Protector donated to the Forlot charity. Another one raised tons of money for the charity.

"Wow," I said. "This is..."

"Sad? Deceiving?" Lean guessed.

"No. Amazing."

I put a finger on the orb and moved it to an image of the first Monster Protector, McKinley McCall. Like what he told me in the spirit realm, McKinley was...well, protecting a group of good monsters that were being threatened by an evil monster. The evil monster was much larger than the good ones and would have finished them off if not for McKinley.

McKinley got in front of the good monsters and held out his arms and hands to the sides. Even though that I was unable to hear what he had to say, I was positive that he said along the lines of "Leave these monsters be!" or "I will kill you if you do not turn around and go back home!" Whatever it was probably sounded cool.

The first Monster Protector was wielding his weapon, a sword, and pounced on the bad monster. He stabbed him, pushing his sword into the monstrous flesh, and the monster roared.

"Yay! Go, McKinley!" I cheered. "Show that bully monster who is the boss."

"I take it that you are enjoying yourself," the ghost girl commented.

"You had better believe it, Lean. These Monster Protectors are brave and kind and...brave."

"You already listed brave. And you know what else? They sound just like you."

"Yeah. Just like...me." A wave of sadness washed over me.

"Margie?"

I moved the blue orb from one image to another, hoping that there was an image of me and that I glossed over it by accident. But no. I was nowhere.

I have done kind and brave and...kind deeds. So why was I not grouped with the rest of the Monster Protectors?

I know, I know. I said kind twice.

"I...I am not in here," I notified my ghost friend.

"What do you mean? There is not an image of you doing a good deed?"

"No. Not a single one."

The blue ghost floated to me. "Do not be hard on yourself. It is more than clear that the orb is broken."

"Bite your tongue!" the orb spat.

I teared up. "Why am I not in the group?" I sniffed. "Am I not the Monster Protector?"

"Do not say that. You are the true Monster Protector," Lean encouraged me. "Trust me."

"B-but that does not explain why I am not—huh?!" My eyes landed on an interesting image, and I processed it. "Um, Lean?"

"Yes, Margie?"

"Is it just me...or is there an image of you going through your purse?"

She peered over my shoulder and said, "I do not have a twin sister, so that is me."

"Why...Why are you grouped with the Monster Protectors? You are not...wait."
