Chapter Forty-Six
My team and I backed away from the hill as McKinley and his friends jumped and landed on the flat ground. I gulped. I knew that there were more of them than us, but I never realized until now that they mostly consisted of adults. My team had more teens and younger kids than adults.
I should not be worried, right? McKinley's team may have had the brains, however, mine had the strengths and powers. They will grow weak and tired before we do. I know that having people who are more than humans is cheating the Monster Protector system a bit, but you sometimes have to break the rules in order to protect those whom you cherish.
Speaking of cherish, Wendow and Triso loved the small town of Forlot so much that they joined the fight to protect it and its townsfolk. They found out that their mother, Kara, was joining because Forlot was her home. Wendow and Triso promised me that they would do whatever it took to keep Forlot safe from those who only wanted to cause harm to it.
Skylar and Enoch were next to McKinley and had angry expressions plastered on their faces. In fact, all the evil Monster Protectors except McKinley were not pleased to see us. McKinley was hiding his hands behind his back and gave me and my friends a creepy smile. No. He was just giving it to me.
Enoch who was carrying a ray gun raised his head to the blue tank that my team was standing in front of. He said, "Why the crub do you have a tank, Margie? Were you that scared of losing to us that you stole a tank from the military?"
"What do you think that Margie is?" Wendow blurted out. "A crook like you and your mother who clearly does not like to shave under her arms?"
I covered my mouth using both of my hands to try to not giggle in front of the other team. The last thing that I needed was for them to use their anger to take me and my friends out. That would not be pleasant.
Wendow and Triso climbed up the tank and sat at the top. They stuck out their tongues at the fake Monster Protectors and laughed.
McKinley shook his head as if he were ashamed - and he was - and brought out his hands, revealing that he was wielding his sword. "I should pity you girls," he said, referring to the aliens. "But I told this once to my crew and will tell you the same. Anybody who fights for Margie Morgan and this stupid town and God will die today. Right here. Right now."
Wendow and Triso looked at each other, and then back at him. Triso responded by saying, "Would you like to take back anything that you just said? If I were you, I would."
The first Monster Protector snorted like a pig. Or was it the baby pig that jogged across the field and passed me and McKinley?
"What do you plan on doing to me if I do not? I watched everything that occurred in Forlot while I was dead and trapped. Whatever trick that you have up your sleeve—"
He was interrupted by the explosion of a small missile. The alien girls had fired a missile from the tank, and the missile landed between me and McKinley. A big cloud of smoke covered the entire field, so we could not see who was even next to us. We staggered around until we were free from the smoke.
Daniel, who was first introduced in book thirteen, was the first to escape the smoke. He fell to his knees and coughed hard. Derek was right behind him and had Daniel's inhaler. He handed it to him, and Daniel breathed in and out a couple times before taking it.
Derek became his best friend's eyes and ears and spotted a Monster Protector - an evil one - limping towards them. The Monster Protector had darker skin, and her hair was long and black. She had a bright red scar going across her eye, and her teeth were rotten and jagged. She clutched a knife.
Derek was about to jump in front of his friend and attack the Monster Protector as best as he could, but another character had the same idea as him.
Steven somehow was able to get ahold of a sword and ran out of the smoke and sliced the Monster Protector. I would say that he sliced her head, but I do not want to scar you readers for life. Oh, wait. I already did because I mentioned the disturbing scene. Sorry.
I was the last person to escape the smoke and rubbed my eyes. I took out my crossbow and arrow and tossed my bag to the ground. I set the arrow on the crossbow and began my search for the first Monster Protector.
I did look back once at the battle unfolding and was extremely proud of my friends. They were kicking butts like that there was no tomorrow. I smiled and prayed for their safety and went on my merry way.
I stepped on a footprint that was all too familiar to me. I lifted my foot and realized that the print resembled the bottoms of McKinley's shoes. I noticed that there was a track of the same prints and followed them. They led to a tall hill that was a pretty green, and I was startled at what I saw.
The hill had a cliff, and near the cliff were McKinley and Scarlett. McKinley's back was facing me, and he swung his sword at my sister and missed. Scarlett fell back and landed on her bottom. He loomed over her and raised his sword high in the air.
I had to act fast before Scarlett was harmed. So I ran up to McKinley and slammed my body into his, knocking us both off the cliff.
