Chapter Twenty-Three
The male doctor placed his hands on my shoulders and told me to calm down. Then he asked why I had panicked, and I tugged his hands off me and pushed him away.
"Dude. Did you not hear yourself?" I said. "You want me to rip this guy's head open? Are you nuts?"
"I do not understand what has gotten into you, Ava. You have cut through people's skins and blood in the past."
That was it. I was bailing. I would rather stab a person than see a brain that is still functioning. And that is exactly what I did. But not before I ripped off Ava's name tag and tossed it to the doctor. He caught it and stared at me strangely.
"Ava?"
"I am not Ava!" I quickly took off the lab coat. "I am a patient who does not qualify in saving others. My name is Ada."
He became shocked. Just as I expected. "How did you...?" He inched towards a large, blue button. "Do not go anywhere or touch anything." He pressed the button and spoke into a speaker that was above the button. "Code purple! Code purple! We have an escape pa-ah!"
Poor guy. He was just doing his job, but it had to be done. I had to stab him in the chest with one of the sharp tools. The tool remained in the wound as bright red blood spewed from the injured spot. The doctor fell on his back and coughed up blood.
"I am getting out of here whether the staff likes it or not," I hissed at him.
There was no more time to waste. Backup would arrive soon, and it would be impossible to leave the hospital if they caught me. The worst part was that I could not escape through the double doors now. Not with the staff on my tail.
I snapped my fingers. The roof. I could go to the roof! And jump!
Okay, maybe not jump. Maybe not.
