Chapter Thirty-Two

I was able to pry Mary Sue off Diversity and heading to the front door. Mary Sue tugged.

"We cannot go yet, Ada. We have to gather our belongings."

"Forget about our stuff," I said firmly. "We can always replace them, not us. We are rare."

She gave me the puppy eyes. "Pretty please? I already packed everything that is ours in our suitcases. We just need to grab them and jump out the window."

"'Jump out the window'?" I repeated the ridiculous idea. "Are you insane? We will surely die!"

"I am way ahead of you."

She tugged me to the bedroom chambers and into our bedroom. She let go of me and scooped up her suitcase by the handle. I picked up mine and watched as Mary Sue blew into something small and yellow. The object grew and grew as more air was blown into it, and it turned out to be a raft.

"I am not going to ask why you brought along a raft," I commented. "I am just glad that you have it with you."

My used-to-be friend pushed the inflatable raft through the window, and the raft fell and landed on the other side that was separated from the castle by a gap.

She poked her head out the window. "Perfect shot," she notified. "Now we take a leap of faith with our suitcases."

Mary Sue jumped first. Her hair went wild as she was falling and landed safely in the raft. She scrambled out and cupped a hand around her mouth.

"Your turn, Ada!"

I was hesitant at first, but when I heard Diversity's voice, I took the chance. I too was safe and sound in the raft. Mary Sue helped me to my feet and asked me what we should do next. I told her that I did not care what we do as long as we were far, far away from Diversity's castle.

To make sure that we were not followed by Diversity, Mary Sue and I ran into the woods nearby and zigzagged through the trees. We were in there for about five minutes before we located an opening and escaped. We had returned to the stores, homes, and restaurants of Forlot.

"Where should we go?" Mary Sue asked. "To your dad's?"

I shook my head. "No, no, no. Absolutely not. You do not know this because you were trapped within the castle, but my father tried to kill me."

She pressed her hands to her cheeks. "You have got to be kidding me. He actually tried to murder you?"

"Well, he was aiming a gun at me and trying to shoot me with it and stated how I am a grave mistake."

We started walking down the sidewalk.

"You are not a grave mistake. If it is about the blonde hair, you can always dye your hair brown."

"It is more than just the hair. I think that he wants me dead because I am not his ideal daughter anymore."

"It is his lost, Ada."

I glanced up and noticed a tall building behind a couple small houses. I suggested that we hide in there for the time being, and Mary Sue agreed. We squeezed between the two houses and ran towards the double doors that were red. We pushed open the doors and stepped inside. The lights were on, and across from us was an elevator.

"What is that?" I asked, pointing at the elevator.

"It is an elevator," Mary Sue replied. "It is a machine that goes up and down and takes you to the floor that you wish to be on." She scurried up to the elevator and pressed a button by it. "You are going to love it."

I walked until I was next to her, and the elevator doors slid open. We made our way in, and the doors closed. My used-to-be friend stood in front of a row of buttons, deciding which number to press. She chose the number seven because it is her favorite number, and the elevator hummed and moved.

"What do we do while we wait, Mary Sue?"

"Wait patiently. It will not take long. Unless one of the ropes on the elevator breaks or the elevator gets stuck."

The elevator stopped, and its doors opened. The floor that we were on had a long and narrow carpet stretching from the elevator to a desk.

A desk that was occupied by a woman.

The woman was examining some papers, so we took that opportunity to quietly hurry out of the elevator and hide nearby. The floor was silver, and the walls were white. The woman's desk was a chocolate brown, and her rolling chair was black. Even though that we were far from her work spot, I could read her name on the nameplate.

Katrina. Her last name was not presented.

The woman whom I assumed was Katrina set down the papers and picked up a phone that had a cord at the end and put it up to her ear.

"Hello? Good. It is you. Could you please come to Syicon? Right now would be fantastic. I got my boss wrapped around my little finger. He loves me, and I am in it for the money. Love you. Bye!"

She placed the phone back on the receiver and leaned back in her chair. Two double doors that were black and by her desk opened, and a man came in and stood by her work spot. He dressed in formal attire and looked like that he was in his thirties or forties.

"Hi, Boss," Katrina greeted. She rested her elbows on the desk. "I miss seeing you."

"And I miss seeing your beauty," the boss replied. "You intoxicate me."

"Is that a bad thing?"

He shrugged his shoulders. "It is a case in my book. So you must be punished."

"Okay. I understand."

Katrina got up from her seat, and they kissed each other deeply.
