Chapter Seven

"Let me see if I got this right," Kathy said. "The real worlder whom I assume was picked randomly to be killed, was the President of America and peacemaker that connected every country. And now that he is dead, the other real worlders are outraged and raging war on one another."

"I am afraid that is the honest truth," the doctor replied. "The worst part is that this war will most definitely occur. To the real worlders, it will be World War 3, but to us fictional characters, it will be the Final War."

I was lost in confusion. "Why will we be referring to it as the Final War? Will it be the last war that the real worlders will ever have to experience?"

"That and the brutal fact that this war will kill every single real worlder who remains breathing."

Kathy patted my knee. "In other words...they will be extinct."

The doctor straightened his white coat. "Like the endangered animals, real worlders will be on the endangered list."

"Wow." She slouched in her chair. "After what the real worlders has put us through..."

It should be obvious to you readers that the three of us were upset by the latest news. I know that some of you can be a real pain, but none of you deserve to die in a war, especially when the war was ignited by yours truly.

"Mary Sue is going to get more hate than Ava now," I muttered to myself.

The doctor excused himself and disappeared around a corner, and Kathy asked me if we were going to tell on Mary Sue.

"It is bad enough that she murdered a real worlder. Now we know that she murdered an important figure. And knowing her, I bet that it was not a random kidnapping and killing."

"I agree with you. I put the pieces together, Kathy, and concluded that she hates the real worlders so much that she is willing for them to go to war."

"Glad that we are on the same page. By the way, I borrowed your phone and got in touch with Libby. She is coming to the hospital as we speak."

"Good idea. When she gets here, we can tell her that Mary Sue is the fictional character behind this wild mess."

Just then, a girl dashed into the waiting room. She was my age and carrying a basket of muffins.

"Sophia," I said her name. I was surprised to see her. "Why are you here?" I got a whiff of the muffins and licked my lips. "And what is that delicious smell?"

Sophia held up the basket. "Blueberry muffins. I made them after you left the house." She handed each of us a muffin and said, "I hope that you are not hurt, Cassandra. I overheard from reliable sources that you were here."

I bit off a piece of the muffin. "I am fine." I chewed and swallowed. "Traumatized, but otherwise fine."

She plopped in the chair next to me and set her basket in her lap. "I can arrange a therapist for you."

I was chewing on another piece and almost spit it out. I quickly swallowed it and glared at her. "Excuse me?"

She kicked with her legs. "You just said that you were traumatized, and I have your best interest at heart."

"Sophia, I appreciate that you care for Cassandra..." Kathy started.

My silly friend interrupted. "Of course! We are best friends after all!"

"...Cassandra does not need any therapist. A little trauma will not do any harm."

"You call it little. I call it big. From the reliable sources, Cassandra witnessed a real worlder being stabbed, and there was plenty of blood to fill a pool. She will certainly have nightmares tonight."

"Cassandra will prove your theory wrong. Right, Cassandra?"

"I do not need a therapist," I said. "I will be myself as soon as I rest."

"Okay, okay." Sophia raised her arms and hands in the air as if surrendering to the police. "If you say that you do not need a therapist, I will believe you."

"Thank you," Kathy thanked her.

Sophia rested her head on my shoulder. "So...who killed the real worlder?"

My partner and I glanced at each other, and I knew that we were thinking the same thing.

Should we tell her? Or wait until Libby came?

As if the heavens performed a miracle - and they did - another girl entered the waiting room. It was none other than Libby.

"Cassandra. Kathy."

"Libby!" I jumped up and ran to her. "Boy, are we glad to see you."

Libby is one of the scientists that works with the agency. Her gadgets always come in handy.

"I heard from some of the agents that you and Kathy took off in an ambulance. What happened?"

I opened my mouth to speak, however, Kathy beat me to it. She joined us and wasted no time in confessing to her that Mary Sue stabbed a real worlder and left him for dead.

As I expected, Libby was taken aback. "A real worlder? Here in Forlot?"

"Mary Sue kidnapped the real worlder, brought him to our town, kept him in a secret part of the agency, and killed him with no mercy."

"Who was the real worlder?"

"You may or may not believe this, but this real worlder happened to be the President of the USA and peacekeeper of all countries."

"We believe that it was not a random kidnapping," Kathy added. "Mary Sue did some research on him and took him so that there would be another world war. A war that would potentially wipe out every real worlder."

Her eyes widened. "Really?"

"Really," I said.

"Well...that is good news."

I raised an eyebrow. "What?"

"Oh, wait. It is not good news. It is great news!"

Kathy twirled a strand of her hair with her finger. "I am sorry. Which part is great?"

"All of it! Do you not see?"
