Chapter Nine
You are probably wondering who the guy was. I will not bore you with descriptions because he is not a main character in this book series, however, I will say that he was one of the many, many students and taking Mrs. Burtmon's class the same time that I was.
I was not attractive to him and still am not. Little did I know then that would be a blessing in disguise.
The boy was around my age and a couple inches taller than me. He slowly walked into the classroom with his hands hidden in the pockets of his pants. He must have realized that I was there because he recited a poem.
"It does not matter what the beauty looks on the inside,
A beauty is a beauty,
No matter who she is."
The poem should have been a clue to me as to the kind of person that he was. But I guess that I was too blind in making a first impression. To have a new friend outside of Mary Sue.
I climbed to my feet and waved. "Hiya."
The boy shifted his body in my direction. "Well, well, well. I am the luckiest man in the world to be in the same room with a princess." He gently took my hand and kissed the top of it.
I blushed from embarrassment and curtsied. "My name is Ada Maxwell, and I am not a princess."
"A unique name and enchanting voice too? You are correct. You are not a princess. You are a goddess."
"I am not a goddess either." I giggled. "Just your average human."
"Ada, is it? When it comes to you, you are anything but average." He leaned against my desk. "I have never seen you in these neck of the woods."
"I should hope not." I played with my hair bun as I talked. "I am the new student today. It is my first day of school."
"So you and your folks moved here to Forlot. Perfect choice."
I shook my head. "Nope. My dad and I have been in this town for as long as I have been alive."
"So your mom and dad homeschooled you."
"I do not have a mom...and what is homeschooling?"
He ignored my question and said, "Your father must be lonely with no wife around."
"Dad does not need no wife. He has me for comfort."
The student nearly fell back on the desk and stumbled forward. I grabbed him and helped him up.
"Are you okay?" I asked with concern. "I hope that you are not experiencing a seizure or stroke."
"What? No!" He gave me a gentle push and went back to leaning on my desk and acting cool. "No, no, no. I have not gotten a seizure or stroke and never will. Want to know why?"
"You take good care of yourself and eat only salads?"
"You may be a pretty lady, but you are way off. Nothing awful has happened to me because I am cool and popular."
"Oh..." My eyes darted to the floor.
"I get whatever I want, Ada. My family is rich, and I buy whatever I want. If I want new clothes, I buy them. If I want a certain video game, I get it. And if I desire to have an attractive lady to have fun with..." He got so close to me that the tips of our noses were touching. "...that young woman will happily accept."
My eyes widened, and I stepped back. "Just where are you getting at?" I questioned him, not realizing the obvious.
"Dang. You are stupid." He started creeping towards me. "Dumb and attractive. My type of treat."
"I am not dumb. I will have you know that I have more knowledge than rats. At least, that is what my dad says. He also says that a lion is smarter than me."
The boy had his hands in gripping positions. "You are mine, Ada Maxwell!"
"Ah!" With my quick thinking, I took a big leap over two desks and was now in the next aisle. I pointed an accusing finger at him. "Touch me, and it will be the last thing that you touch!"
"What is the matter, baby? Afraid that I will harm you?"
"Duh! That is the idea!" I scurried up to my desk.
"You cannot run away from me forever. As I said, I always get what I want, and what I want now is a hot chick."
"Then get yourself a chicken, you lowlife!"
I glanced down at my desk and rummaged through my school supplies, praying that there would be an item to defend me with.
And there definitely was.
My palm ran over something cold. A chill shot down my spine, and I picked it up.
The gun.
I frowned at the student and aimed the gun at him. It surely gave him the scare of his life because his entire body was trembling.
"Why do you have that?" he demanded. "Did nobody tell you that those are not allowed?"
I pushed what I assumed were ridiculous questions aside and strolled slowly around my desk. "Stay far away from me and my accessories. Or your hair will be wet today."
"...what?"
"You heard me. What I have is a water gun, and I will not hesitate to soak your hair and clothes."
He was silent for a moment. "...are you that stupid?! That is not a water gun! It is a real gun!"
I laughed. "Listen to who is stupid now! Ha!"
"Test it out, Ava. I dare you. And I promise you that no water will come out."
"I will not—yah!"
I had slipped on the floor. I fell and accidentally pulled the trigger. A bullet shot out and hit the boy, and he flew back and hit the wall. The bullet pierced through his chest...where his heart was.
I immediately sat up and shook in fear.
I had murdered him.
