Chapter Four

Cindy - the real Cindy - stood a foot from me, Ava, and the other Cindy. She was cradling Baby Tamara and holding my - I mean, our - son's hand. Tamara was kicking with those tiny legs of hers, and Cal was holding a paper bag with candy inside.

I did not have to wonder how my girlfriend was feeling. Heck, I probably felt the same way. Confused and a bit angry.

"Caleb?" the real Cindy said. "Why are two girls by the mansion?" As she strolled closer to us, she added, "Ava, you are here to make mischief. And...why is there a girl who looks just like me?"

My bottom jaw quivered. I was so confused that I was unable to form the correct words. I glanced at the fake Cindy, and then back at the real one. I realized that the fake had a visible scar, and the other did not.

"Ooh. Daddy is in trouble," I heard my son, Cal. "Daddy has two hot women fighting over him, and Mommy is going to beat him to a pulp."

"Cal, your father and I do not like when you talk like that. It is inappropriate. Besides, I trust your father with my whole heart and know that he would never cheat on me."

"I do not know about that, Mom. Looks can be deceiving."

Fake Cindy jerked away from Ava. "You cannot stop us, Ava. This is happening."

"I will not let you or him go through with it!" Ava snapped.

My legs shook. I was so full of confusion that I had to keep myself from passing out. If not for Cindy, I would have passed out.

Cindy handed Tamara to Cal. "Please take Tamara inside and stay with her. Okay, Cal?"

"Yes, Mom." Cal hurried past me and the two girls and stayed in the living room.

I watched as Cindy stormed up to Ava and forced her away from the doorstep. She was mad. Like, ticked.

"Leaving Caleb with the invisible scars is not enough for you, Ava. You just want to see him suffer some more." She forced the fake Cindy out of the mansion and tapped her foot. "What is this?" She motioned to the lookalike.

"That is Cindy," Ava replied.

"I am Cindy. This imposter must be a robot, and I suppose that you made it."

"You do not understand, Cindy. You see—"

"No. You do not understand. You think that you can torture my poor cinnamon roll." She slid her hand into mine. "Caleb is no longer that boy that you enjoyed scaring all those years ago. He has courage and is surrounded by people who truly love him."

"Listen to me! I am not Ava! Well, I am Ava. But I am not your Ava."

"That is bull."

Fake Cindy looked at Ava, and then at me and Cindy. A black string was around her neck, and she pulled on it, revealing a black pendant that had been hiding under her shirt.

"You cannot blame a girl for pretending to be nice," Fake Cindy said.

A purple aura washed over her, transforming her into a person that I barely recognized. She changed from light clothes to all black. Her hair remained in a ponytail, but she was now wearing a black eyepatch over her eye with the scar. In addition, she wore a black, sleeveless vest, a black skirt, black boots that touched her knees with heels, and fingerless gloves that reached to her elbows.

I squeezed Cindy's hand. I was afraid for what was going to occur next.

"The name is Cindy Banks! But you may call me Anti-Cindy." She bowed.

"And I am Ava. We are not from here."

"You have got to be kidding me," my girlfriend mumbled.

Anti-Cindy snickered. "Believe it, baby. Now, I have come for your boyfriend."

"You mean Caleb?"

"Yes. I want Caleb Night."

Cindy raised a fist. "You are going to have to first get through me."

There was a pocket in her skirt, and Anti-Cindy reached in and brought out a black weapon. A whip.

"Trust me, girl. You do not want to mess with me."

"Enough, Cindy," Anti-Ava said. She got in front of us and held out her arms to the sides, protecting us. "He already took over our town. Is that not enough?"

"He wants Caleb. He sent me to kidnap Caleb. And I will not leave without him."

"Who are you referring to?" Cindy spoke up.

"That is none of your business!"

It all happened fast. Anti-Cindy pushed Anti-Ava, attacked Cindy, and kidnapped me. She swung my body over her shoulder and ran off with me.

"Help!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "Help me!"

Anti-Cindy took me to a empty field of grass and held up her pendant. Pink aura appeared from it and swirled around, forming a portal.

I pounded my fists on her back. "Why are you doing this? What do you want from me?!"

She snickered. "Oh, Caleb. It is not what I want from you. It is why he wants you."

"And who is it that wants me?"

"You will figure that out for yourself. You are one of the smartest characters in this book series after all."

She lifted me off her shoulder, and I screamed bloody murder as Anti-Cindy pushed me into the portal.

Believe it or not, being shoved into an unknown portal would not compare to what was about to come.
