Chapter Forty-One
Despite that our writer encouraged us to not worry about the Lubriem's past and instead celebrate the life that she had, I could not get what she said to leave my mind. I knew that Ash was not the type of person to lie to her fictional characters, however, her take on the Lubriem did not sit well with me.
Yes, Ash had more knowledge on the Lubriem than us fictional characters. And yes, she and the Lubriem were good friends. But one thing, or should I say, person, in the story was not making me buy it. That was Lean Share.
Lean Share and I may not be the best of friends, but we got along with no problem. I knew her well enough to know that she was not an envious ghost and would never murder anyone because of it, especially the Lubriem. She and the Lubriem were close, and she was devastated when she found out that the Lubriem passed away. She grieved for months. All the Forlot characters grieved.
In no way am I implying that Lean is perfect. Nobody is perfect because each and every one of us has sinned. According to the Forlot guidebook, Lean Share is classified as a complex character who is good. I honestly love complex characters because they have so much development. Sadly, not a lot of people enjoy complex characters. They judge the characters for their mistakes and nothing else.
Not understanding where I am getting at? I will give you an example. Do you recall book thirteen? Probably not because that was a long time ago. It starred Daniel, Derek, Ariana, and Laila. The story was about two sisters whose lives were ruined by cancer. Well, one's life came crashing down by cancer. The other sister not only had to face the fact that her older sister had cancer, but was also lied to.
Some of our so-called "fans" hated Ariana as soon as the plot twist was revealed. They called her names and claimed that what Laila did was right. They were hating on Ariana because of a mistake that she made, but at the same time, they were giving Laila a pass for wanting to commit a murder. I am not saying that you should like Ariana and not Laila. People who believe that Ariana should pay for a mistake need to understand the reason as to why she lied to her sister.
Ash took out her cellphone and checked the time. "Oh my gosh," she said.
"What?" I said. "What is wrong?"
"I am going to be late to the Con if I do not get moving."
"I have never heard of the Con," Sophia admitted. "What is it?"
She shoved her phone back in her pocket. "The Con is one of the best events that the real world celebrates. It is held every year and a place where everybody is welcome to meet fans of other franchises and dress up as their favorite characters. You can play games, read books, and watch movies and shows. The things that I just told you are just the beginning of the fun."
"Are you going to present something Forlot related?" I guessed.
"Yep. The ones who host the Con contacted me and asked if I could come and meet my fans and possibly reveal a few things about my future books."
Sophia hugged her. "I am over the moon that people love your books and creativity."
I smiled and also hugged our writer. "Me too."
Ash giggled and hugged us back. "I wish that some of my characters could join me."
Sophia and I pulled away from her, and I said, "I can join you, Ash. I can drop off Mary Sue in Forlot, and then—"
I bet that you readers can guess what happened next. Go on. Take a wild guess.
The door to the room swung open, and Libby stood in the doorway. She had a smirk plastered on her face and seemed that she was trying to hold back laughter. I scowled at her and put my hands on my hips. I asked her what was so funny, and she said something that made my heart drop.
"You will never believe it, Cassandra. Mary Sue escaped again."
Libby was correct. I did not believe it. I squeezed past her and hurried to the rest of the group. My eyes darted from one individual to another and did not spot Mary Sue. I facepalmed and felt like an idiot. I should have never left her out of my sight.
"Where did Mary Sue go?" I demanded.
Both the real worlders and fictional characters told me the same thing. Mary Sue said that she was on her way to the Con. Just our luck. Thankfully, the Con was not far from the White House. The president let us borrow his limousine, and Ash and us fictional characters climbed in and braced ourselves for the worst to come.
"Wow!" Sophia exclaimed. "I have never been in a limousine before."
Suddenly, Ash's phone rang. Ash pulled it back out and squinted at the screen. "Oh my."
"Who is calling you?" I asked.
"Ava Campbell."
I blinked a couple times. "What does she want?"
"Only one way to find out, Cassandra." She answered the call and held up the phone to her ear. "Hello, Ava. What? You want to talk to her? Why? Okay..." She handed me her phone. "It is for you."
I was confused as to why Ava would be calling me and put the phone on speaker so that everybody else would hear. "Ava?"
"Ah. Cassandra. So wonderful to hear your voice."
"Cut to the chase, Ava. Why the crub are you calling me?"
"I just wanted to let you know that Mary Sue is at the Con and fighting your partner."
"You mean Kathy?"
"That is her name. Anyway, Mary Sue is fighting Kathy because Kathy is wrecking the Con. An amazing fight."
