Chapter Forty-Four

Slapi and I arrived before the situation got ugly. Diversity was unaware that my brother was with me because he was in hiding. More on him later in this chapter.

I stood a few inches away from Cindy and Diversity and aimed my new gun at them. More precisely, Diversity. And even with all that, Diversity was not at the very least surprised and slowly rose to her feet. Cindy scrambled to hers and backed away as she stared at me.

"Ada?" Cindy said my old name. "Is that you?"

"Yes," I confirmed.

"I thought so. I recognized the face and hair."

"I will let you off with a warning, Cindy, because you did not know. I changed my full name. It is not Ada Maxwell. It is Ava Campbell. I am a changed soul, so I just had to change my name."

"Ah. Well, Ava suits you too."

"Enough of this!" Diversity interrupted our conversation. A blue ball of energy formed in her hand, and she aimed it at the rope that was dangling Caleb. "Put the gun on the grass and kick it over to me. Or I will break the rope, and that idiot white boy will fall to his doom."

"No!" Cindy protested.

I did not expect what occurred next. Okay, maybe I did a little.

Cindy ran like lightning to her cousin and gripped her wrist tightly. She screamed in her face that she would hurt her, possibly kill her, if she made Caleb fall. Diversity did not say anything back and instead managed to jerk free from her cousin's grasp, hoisted her over her head, and threw her as hard as she could on the grass. Cindy fell with a loud thump!, but was not unconscious yet. She was lying on her stomach and groaning.

A good person would hurry to her side and check to make sure that she was alright. I am a villain. But hey, I am nowhere of a scum as Diversity.

Diversity created the energy ball again and gave me a sickening grin. "Where were we, Ava? That is right. You are supposed to give up your gun and kick it to me. Unless you want the white boy to die, of course."

I rolled my eyes.

She raised an eyebrow. "Did you just roll your eyes at me?"

"Yes, I did. And I will do it again. It absolutely bugs me and the readers that you are referring to Caleb Night as the white boy."

"Is that so?"

"Yeah. You have no class. Heck, I have more class than you."

She parted her lips, and a whoosh of air escaped. "Now that I actually think about it, you and the fans are correct. I am so, so sorry. From now on, I will call him the white trash."

That last sentence alone was enough to send Cindy over the edge. She quickly stood back up, dashed up to her rotten cousin, and punched her in the face. It was such an impact that Diversity uttered a cry of agony and fell on her back. She covered her entire face with her hands and screamed.

I lowered my weapon and smirked at Cindy. "You have spunk."

"Thanks. I taught myself how to fight because I was sick of my family's bull. They all are messed up in the heads."

I did not see it coming, but a ball of energy hit the back of her head, and Cindy was knocked out and returned to the grass. Diversity slowly climbed to her feet, and I could not help but giggle. Her nose was now red.

"Hey, it is the missing reindeer," I joked. "I was wondering where you were."

"That is it!" Diversity shouted at the top of her lungs. "I have had enough of you and your pathetic friends!"

"Caleb and your cousin are not my friends, you idiot. Get your priorities straight."

She let out a laugh. "You doomed Caleb." Her eyes shifted to her castle - and she was in shock. "What the...? W-where...?"

No longer did Caleb have to put his faith in some rope. The rope was not holding him anymore. In fact, there was no rope!

While I watching and Cindy and Diversity were going at it, Slapi slipped into the castle and reached the top. He rescued Caleb from certain doom.

"Ava!" Slapi called out. He walked to where Diversity and I were at and was pulling Caleb by the rope. Caleb remained tied up.

"Thank you for saving my life," Caleb thanked. "But could you please untie me? This rope is cutting off my circulation..."

"What the...?" Diversity repeated. "Who are you? Who is he?"

Slapi came up to me, and I wrapped an arm around his shoulders. "This, dear Diversity, is a new member of my team that I plan on building. Meet my brother, Slapi."

One of her eyebrows twitched, and she hesitated. "What kind of a name is...Slapi?"

"It was Mary Sue's idea. You see, while you were distracted by me and Cindy, my new brother snuck into your castle and got Caleb before you could kill him. Now you have no hostages."

"And you do not have a castle, let alone a place to call home," Slapi added.

"Pfft. You may have a member, Ava, but he sure is dumb."

I slid a hand into the pocket of my pants. "I would hold your tongue if I were you." I pulled out a small controller that had a red button in the middle.

"What is that controller? Oh, right. You do not have powers like me, so you have to use that dumb brain of yours."

My brother whispered to me. "Go for it."

I pressed the red button - and the castle exploded. It was not a castle anymore. It was now a large pile of rubble.

Diversity uttered a horrified gasp. "My castle!"

"Everything that was in that castle is gone forever," I stated proudly.
