Chapter Sixteen

Finally! The white light came to our aid. It engulfed the darkness and brought me and Nigel back to Forlot. Nigel's fear bubble was gone for good. I congratulated him, and we hugged. The little girl and the emotions hurried to our side and helped us up.

"Thanks, guys," I thanked. I took in a whiff of the fresh air. "My Covid-19 is gone...for now. I can breathe again."

"Good thing that you did not have that and your asthma at the same time. You would have to breathe like a fish," Charity joked. Though, it was not much of a joke.

"Haha. Very funny," I said sarcastically. I dusted off my dress. "Saving Nigel was a success, Common Sense."

"I figured that it was, Jorgie." He smiled at Nigel. "How do you feel, Nigel? Did you get hurt?"

He shook his head. "No. I am fine. Just glad to be out of that horror show."

"Our apologies for not rescuing you sooner," Faith apologized for the rest of us. "It was only Jorgie and us emotions when we started this desperate mission. Fear has all the townsfolk trapped in fear bubbles in order to feed off the fears."

"Jorgie saved two girls named Margie and Scarlett," Hope stated. "They decided to join our team, so I was wondering if you would like to join too."

Keeping his eyes on the three new emotions, Nigel leaned towards me and asked, "Who are they?"

I let out a giggle. This was not the first time that I had to explain and would certainly not be the last.

Only after I introduced Charity, Faith, and Hope did I come to the realization that Margie and Scarlett were still missing! I remembered the tentacles that wrapped around them and took them into the house against their wills. I announced to everyone else that we needed to locate them before it was too late.

"We do not have time to search for them," Common Sense stated the truth. "We have wasted too much time as it is. If we do not speed up this book, there will be no more Forlot books because Fear will become the new ruler of this town."

"Margie and Scarlett could be in danger," I argued. "It could be too late for them even before we take down Fear and his minions."

"Then I will tell you what. You visit Hansel and Gretel's fear bubble, while Nigel, the other emotions, and I search Nigel's house for the girls."

"They could be in the attic," Nigel suggested. "That is where I had a couple encounters with the Nerians way back in book two."

"It is worth a look," Charity agreed.

"Before you all go..." I began. "...where are Hansel's and Gretel's bubble?"

"You mean Hansel and Gretel's bubble," my common sense corrected me. "The twins are in the same bubble, not in separate ones. They share the same fear."

"Oh. Okay."

He led me to the fear bubble, and I immediately took note that two kids were floating inside. He wished me good luck, and I jumped in. Next thing that I knew, I was in complete darkness yet again. I almost lost my balance, but kept myself steady. I cupped my hands around my mouth and called for the twins.

"Hansel! Gretel! It is me! Jorgie! If you can hear me, say something!"

Since that they were likely dealing with their fear, I assumed that I would not receive an answer. So you can imagine my surprise when I heard Hansel say something. No, he said the word "something."

I ran in the direction where the voice had come from, and Hansel and Gretel came into view. They were standing around and surprised to see me.

"Hansel! Gretel!"

"Jorgie!"

The three of us hugged, and Hansel said, "Wait a second. Are you a part of our fear?"

"Nope," I responded. "I am the real Jorgie."

"That is the best news that we heard since that we were forced into this joint," Gretel remarked. "Do you happen to know where we are?"

"We are in a fear bubble."

Her brother quirked an eyebrow. "A what?"

"A fear bubble. Fear uses them on his victims so that he will be fed."

"That fiend! Does he not know that we have lives to live?"

"More than you think. This is precisely why he knows all about your fears."

His sister ran a hand through her hair. "So what you are saying is that these bubbles show what we are most afraid of."

I nodded. "That is correct."

The twins looked at each other, and then back at me. That is when they revealed to me that they had not dealt with their fear yet. I thought at first that they meant that they had been avoiding their fear throughout their lives. They confirmed that was true, however, what they were getting at was that they had not encountered their fear here in this fear bubble. It had only been them chatting.

"That is bizarre," I said as I pondered the situation. "Margie, Scarlett, and Nigel were dealing with their own fears when I went in their bubbles to rescue them."

"Hold on," Gretel said. "Margie and Scarlett and Nigel were in bubbles like ours?"

"Unfortunately so. Thankfully, they are out now because they conquered their fears."

"So the only way that my sister and I will be free from this prison is if we win over our fear," Hansel commented.

"Your biggest fear. But...where could it be?"

Gretel rested a hand on her twin's shoulder. "Jorgie?"

"Yes?"

"I think that I just realized why the fear has not shown itself. Hansel and I have no idea what we are afraid of."

Hansel shifted his head to her. "Say, you are right. I have no clue as to why I am supposed to be scared."

Now the situation was even more bizarre. Would we be trapped in here forever?
