Chapter Twelve
After plenty of convincing from his own son, Dr. O'Fallon finally agreed. At first, he was not so sure. Being a doctor for several years, he has seen all kinds of people. From the sociopaths to the psychopaths. However, the most that he has helped were the mentally ill.
He had to be honest that he never intended to have any patients who were mentally ill. It is not that he did not have any desire to help them. He thought that it was just not his profession. He was just a regular doctor. You know. One that you would see during your annual checkup, and he or she can prescribe medication.
Now, he took in the mentally ill because not only was he great at helping them succeed, but because he had a better idea of what type of people that the mentally unstable were, and it was not pretty.
Keep in remind that there are different levels of unstable people. Some are not that dangerous and do not require years of treatment, and it is common to sometimes know or see a mentally unstable person who is a sociopath or psychopath.
But Mary Sue...
Before allowing Mr. Hawk to take Margaret, Dr. O'Fallon explained to him, me, Scarlett, Stanley, and Skippy everything that we had to know about the mentally ill, such as they how react to the world around around them and what they can be capable of. Now, the reason that I even brought up Mary Sue was because Dr. O'Fallon confessed to us that she was a patient of his at one time. That she was his first patient to be mentally ill.
"You may not know this, but I am one of the best, if not the best, doctors in Forlot," he explained to us. "All my patients have been successful under my care because not only do I give them what they need, but I understand them and their position. You would be surprised how much more you can do when you just sit down and learn about your patient."
"Could you please tell us how Mary Sue landed in your care, sir?" I asked politely.
"I am getting there. Also, why do you want to know about my backstory with Mary Sue? Do you know her?"
"I do not know her personally. I learned about her through...an incident."
He let out a whoosh of air. "Oh, dear. What did she do?"
I fiddled with my fingers. "Well...she almost doomed the real worlders. Thankfully, she was stopped."
He took off his glasses and pinched his nose with his thumb and finger. "Jeez. I am not surprised."
"By what you just said, I assume that this is not the first time that she tried to doom..." Scarlett looked at me. "...what are real worlders?"
I shrugged. "I do not have the slightest clue. Guessing from that title, I say that they are real people who are living in this world."
"Real worlders are the opposite of fictional characters and therefore, should be doomed," Dr. O'Fallon stated.
"Say what?" Skippy said.
The doctor put his glasses back on. "That is the exact phrase that Mary Sue said to me. Except that I said it calmly. She yelled it in my face. But yes, Margie. That is what real worlders are. When Mary Sue told me about them, I researched them on the web."
Mr. Hawk wrapped an arm around his dad's shoulders. "Like father, like son," he said. "We both researched two totally different things."
"Yes. Anyway..."
Dr. O'Fallon excused himself and walked up to a telephone that was connected to a wall. He picked it up, dialed, and held it up to his ear.
"Hello? I am calling for the release of a patient of mine. Her name is Margaret Morgan. That is correct. Margaret Morgan."
When he was through, he hung up, put the phone back, and walked back to us.
"I called the main office. They will be transferring Margaret to this very room in a wheelchair."
"Do you know how long that it will take?" Mr. Hawk asked.
"I am estimating five to ten minutes."
Frowning, Stanley grabbed my hand and started leading me outside. I tried holding my ground - literally - and pulling my hand free.
"Stanley, where are you taking me?" I demanded.
"Home," he answered. "To the mansion."
"Why? Are you worried that I will not handle being in your ex-girlfriend's presence?"
"On the contrary, I know that she will not handle being in your presence." He glanced at me. "I...I know that she will hurt you. Possibly kill you like she attempted before."
I finally managed to jerk my hand free. "I am a girl, Stanley. But just because I am does not mean that you do not have to treat me like a girly girl. I am a fighter. Well, not literally. But I prefer monsters over humans."
He put on a smile. "Do you think that I was not aware? That is why I fell in love with you. You are nothing like Margaret and unlike any other girl that I have met." He kissed me on the cheek. "I love you, Margie."
I could not help but blush and giggle. "I love you too, Stanley."
"So will you allow me to take you home?"
I glanced at Dr. O'Fallon, and then back at him. "I do not think so. I mean, Dr. O'Fallon still has not explained his backstory with Mary Sue."
The doctor must have overheard me because he said, "Margie, my children and I will visit the mansion sometime later. I will tell you then."
"Hold up. You have children?" Mr. Hawk questioned.
"Yes. Three daughters and one son."
Seeing that we were the first to leave, Stanley and I returned to the mansion before the others.
"Being in the same mansion with the girl who almost killed me will be fun," I said sarcastically. "I cannot wait."
