ON A VERY SPECIAL EPISODE... | 07
In case anyone particularly cared, children were loud. Babies cried and Juniper was tired. The twins weren't particularly easy, but in the end Juniper would lay her life down for them. Her love for the Maximoffs was undying, and that had meant the kids too.
Juniper was sat on the stairs, her eyes dropping as she witness Wanda try and bribe Tommy to silence. Vision had scowled lightly at the woman as he stepped past the best friend.
Juniper mumbled something, leaning her head against the banister. She was rather scratch free, minus the healing ones from the seventies, she woke up with a nose bleed, but she's fairly curtain that's because she fell of her bed the night that had barely passed.
"Tried reading to him, somehow Charles Darwin's, The Descent Of Man, made him cry even harder."
"Same, Billy."
Juniper held her arms open, offering to try and take over for the the man. Vision passed her the baby, and Juniper ignored the way Billy gripped onto her short hair.
Billy didn't calm down in her arms, but he was letting himself take in enough oxygen that he wouldn't pass out.
Juniper was cold, to be fair she always was, she presumed it's from her connections with the dead, but now she was worried about the baby. She stood up as Vision went to help Wanda and took of her fluffy gown, she proceeded to move the gown to be a bit more of a barrier between her death like skin and Billy's life like warmth.
He seemed to appreciate it, he wasn't shivering at least.
"Vis? Would you mind grabbing those binkies?"
"Oh. 'Course not, binkies all around, I think."
Juniper rocked Billy, turning in different directions as she did so, before coming to a stop beside's Wanda. As Vision left, the girls placed the baby's in the cradle.
They kicked off more.
"Now, I know parents aren't supposed to take short cuts, but I think this situation calls for one, don't you?" Wanda asked the children, side eying Juniper who stared down at the babies.
As of recently, Juniper's actions were lacking life and rather dull. Her face didn't seem as bright and happy, she looked still and bored. Juniper reminded Wanda of Death. Juniper reminded Wanda of how she looked only days before she hit rock bottom.
Wanda was worried Juniper was relapsing into the depression that had killed her.
Desperate to ignore her own worrying, Wanda tried to silence the children. It was easy to say it didn't work, not the first time or the second time.
The babies giggle and lazy smile was put on Juniper's paling lips.
Maybe it was sleep deprivation that was making Wanda imagine how death like Juniper looked. It had to be, it had to be for now, or until Wanda could fix it up.
"Well, I don't find it very funny, why won't you do what I want?"
"What was that, dear?"
Juniper and Wanda turned to see Vision with the babies dummy's in his head, roughly where his ears should be.
"That is not where those go." Wanda laughed, plucking them out of Vision's head.
"Noise cancellation is not their primary function?"
Wanda let out an amused sigh as the dummy's were placed into the babies' mouthes. The crying stoped — momentarily — before they were spat out.
"Well, we tried." Juniper stated, making her way to the kitchen. Hopefully she'd find some alcohol. Oh. Never mind, Vision grabbed her arm, stopping her from leaving. What absolute slander.
"Vis, J, what are we doing wrong?"
"Oh, don't worry, dear." Vision said, his hand still around Juniper's arm as he placed a kiss on Wanda's head. "We'll figure it out."
"Yeah, when they're five or ten." Juniper mumbled, her voice rather dull — hell, it was barely audible. It was as though the girl had no energy to do anything, as though her life was coming to an end from the battery power she lacked.
"Perhaps we all need more time to get to know one another."
Her head was spinning. She felt light and wobbly. She wasn't even sure if she was standing. Water. Warm water seemed to flood her senses. She couldn't move, she was stuck.
Junipers breaths got short and her heart raced, her eyes rolled up. And down she went, Vision's grip forbidding her from hitting the floor.
Water. It was hot. No! Maybe it was cold? She didn't know, but it hurt. She couldn't breath! Oxygen wasn't getting to her. Her underwater body was overridden with carbon dioxide.
Her head was pounding, her airways seemed to be tightening. Water kept her down. A scream was caught in her throat! Aches! Burns! Pain! Pain. Pain. Pain. Her body, her head, her thoughts, it all hurt. She was hurting.
Her eyes opened again revealing Wanda's worried face and Vision stood close. Despite her body aching, her lungs withheld a mild burning sensation, she was up. She was alive and not drowning. How peculiar.
Oh! Agnes was here. How spectacular. When did she get here?
Juniper didn't let her thoughts wander as she looked from her housemates to the neighbour to the five years.
Five year olds?!
How long was she out? Well the decade hadn't changed, so clearly not too long.
Juniper blinked in confusion looked at Wanda and Vision before pointing at the boys. Maybe she's in a whole different reality.
She pushed her self of the sofa. Her head felt funny. Vertigo, was that what it was called? She sat back down, her hands on her head.
She couldn't remember where her head went, or why she passed out or what happened before that. How peculiar? And she supposed, unlikely.
Must be amnesia, seems like the only suitable option as to why she doesn't remember her life, or what the hell just happened.
•••
Maybe a small while had passed as Juniper entered the kitchen, smiling the twins before noticing their peculiar stance.
"Billy, Tommy." She greeted, looking between them with the 'what you doing' eyes.
The boys grinned widely at their aunt.
"Jupiter!"
"Aunty JJ."
The boys greeted stiffening as a small bark could be heard behind them. Juniper laughed, shook her head in amusement.
"If momma Wanda says no, I'll adopt the dog." The woman winked, grabbed an apple and leaned against the wall, awaiting chaos.
The boys looked at one another before turning their attention to the dog in the sink.
Juniper looked through the window, spotting none other then their peculiar neighbour, Agnes. She waved, and the woman waved back before looking something.
"I don't think he likes the water." Billy said, glancing at his brother.
Juniper smiled slightly. The twins were cute, and she was glad they grew out of their screaming stage.
"But we have to get him clean, so mommy will let us keep him."
As if someone had summoned her, Wanda Maximoff called for her boys. Pushing the kitchen door open as the boys quickly rebuilt their human wall.
"You know, I don't miss the crying, but jeez Louise, did you have to learn to walk?" Wanda asked, tiredness running through her voice.
She glanced over at Juniper, the woman looked more alive then she had before she collapsed, and Juniper clearly didn't remember what happened, so all was good.
Her attention was turned back to her sons. "You two never stay put." Wanda shook her heads at her own words before coming to realisation.
Her fast-pace boys and her always-doing-something best friend were still. The boys stand, guarding something and the woman biting an apple with a smirk.
"Unless you're innocently forming a human wall in front of the kitchen sink." With that, the mother began to take a few steps over, eyes running over the boys as she walked past Juniper.
A sneeze. Silly dogs and their silly sneezes.
"Bless you."
"Thank you." All three said.
Then a bark joined them.
"Now tell me which one of you just barked?" She pointed a finger between her kids before giving Juniper the mom look. "Scoot."
The boys gave up their fight, stepping away.
"Oh boy!" She turned from the boys to the other three. "What's this canine doing in my kitchen sink?"
"Having a bath." Juniper replied, a wide grin on her face as she placed her hands on the boys shoulders.
"The doggy paddle."
"Can we keep him, mommy?"
The three gave Wanda the 'pretty please with a cherry on top' look. Sometimes, Juniper forgot she was a twenty five year old who could make her own decisions.
Wanda looked from them to the dog. "Well, I'm sure his owners miss him very much." She stated, picking up the dog with a towel. "Huh, there really is no collar."
"Oh no, looks like we've got to keep him, what a shame." Juniper said with a tight lip 'oh no' smile, nodding her head.
"Can we keep him?" Tommy begged.
"He's outside, crying, alone." Billy added as the twin left Junipers arms.
"Now boys, Juniper, taking care of a living thing is a big responsibility. Dogs need food, exercise, training, belly rubs and cuddles. And kisses between his little ears."
So they were getting a dog at this rate. Juniper grinned and the boys, they grinned back.
"Morning, wife. Morning, boys. Morning, June." Vision strutted into the room. Family meeting, or what? "Good morning, unfamiliar wet animal."
Wanda chuckled at her husband, a toothy smile on show.
"Who's this?"
"We're not quite sure, actually." Wanda stated as she petted the dog before playing him on the floor. "Why so formal, honey?"
"Oh, it's just a precaution really. I had a hunch someone might pop over."
So, Vision can see into the future, how cool. Anyways, in walked their saviour, Agnes. Agnes with no last name. Not suspicious at all. "Hi, kiddos."
"With exactly the item me require." Both Vision and Juniper stated, looking at Agnes with furrowed brows.
Did the woman know everything? Hell, did the woman know about them? Or maybe their past. Could Agnes inform Juniper of her past, it's rather forgettable, apparently.
The door closed behind the somewhat wacky neighbour.
"My kitchen window told me someone got a new pooch." Agnes said, holding a mini — well it was big, but an inside not outside version — dog house. Huh, how convenient.
But didn't Agnes own a rabbit? Why did she need a dog bed? Eh, Juniper wasn't one to pry.
Agnes placed the hose down. "Did you name him yet?" She asked, giving the twins a quick hug.
"How about sniffy?"
Ok, the dog was a walking disaster. Ha, so we're the rest of them. The dog ( Sniffy? ) must of licked the plug but quickly left before getting an inconvenient death.
"How about —" Agnes started.
"Sparky." But Juniper and Agnes said, before turning to one another and chuckling.
"Well, should we make it official?"
Whilst Agnes' back was briefly turned, Wanda magicked up a collar.
Juniper and Vision gave the woman 'what the hell are you doing' wide eyed looks. Did Wanda not care about the public reaction?
Tommy grabbed the collar and Agnes helped him put it on the dog.
Vision scolded Wanda, trying to warn her with safety and care. He didn't want to loose his wife after all.
"So, is Sparky our dog, daddy?"
Juniper held Spark, stroking him with what seemed like peace. She always felt at peace with animals. Something about them made her feel real and brought her thoughts to a nice stop.
"Boys, your father and I don't think you're ready to properly care for an animals until you're at least —"
"Ten." Vision coughed out, looking down at the ground.
"Ten years old." She said, holding her hands out with ten fingers.
Billy turned to Tommy. Tommy turned to Billy.
The three adults that had lived there protested but the boys didn't care.
Five turned to ten.
Well, at least they get a dog, right? A life long companion, what could possible go wrong? Oops. Jinxed it.
"Let's just hope this dog stays the same size." Agnes said, petting the dog in Juniper's cold arms.
The boys grinned over at Juniper and the girl winked at them. That's definitely one way to get a pet.
