Chapter four
Remus' P.O.V.
My face turning bright red as I smelled the potion. Thankfully she looked immersed in her own thoughts. I smelled chocolate, the hospital wing don't ask why, and a scent I recognized as Nicole's. I shook my head to clear it. I didn't like Nicole! I couldn't. She would hate me if she found out what I was. It only takes one night to make a mistake. Yeah sure I had the whomping willow but I couldn't take the risk. I liked her too much.
"What did you smell?" Nicole asked. My heart stared beating faster and I answered in the passive way I've been talking to her.
"Chocolate." I said shortly. The hospital wing would take way too long to explain and I was definitely not going to say the scent of her.
"What did you smell?"
"Lilacs and the Great Hall." She smiled.
"Interesting." I nodded.
"Times up! Hands up and step away from your cauldron!" Professor Slughorn said cheerily. He looked into each cauldron and took a whiff of it. "Good work Lily and Esther...Grace I have to say I think you've done the complete opposite. I can only smell the scents I hate the most...This seems perfect!" He said once he came in front of us. "Very good work you two...Lucius you have succeeded in blowing up your cauldron. You must order a new one. Severus yours looks good. However you or your partner mixed the second part of the ingredients in the wrong order." Snivelous shot a look of hatred at his partner who looked like he would rather nothing more than to shrink into his shoes while I grinned. "The winners are Remus and Nicole!" Professor Slughorn announced once he inspected the last one. We hopped out of our seats and went up to collect the chocolate bar.
"Thanks Professor." I smiled.
"Of course! I see very bright things in your future." He said to Nicole who looked like she was about to burst with happiness.
"Thank you so much!" She grinned and we took our seats again to pack up.
"Oh yes I almost forgot! Homework." He said quickly. The whole class groaned. "You must write a foot long essay on what you did over break. Bye." I groaned. I'm great at doing essays on different kinds of magic but for everything else I stink.
"Hey Nicole! Remmy wait for me!" Lily said and caught up with us.
"Don't call me Remmy. I asked you not to." I sighed.
"Yes you did. And I chose not to listen." Lily grinned. "Anyways. You guys were brilliant! The look on Snape's face was hilarious."
"Snape?" Nicole asked.
"That's Severus' last name. But I never forgave him again after he called me a mudblood last year." Lily explained.
"How dare he?!" Nicole looked around angrily seeming to want to punch his lights out.
"It's okay it's okay. The others and I already gave him a thorough beating." I assured. "Well I mean we call him Snivelous, sometimes adding greasy at the end but yeah. We took care of it."
"What do we have next?" Lily asked.
"Transfiguration. We're taking it with all the others too." I informed.
"McGonagall absolutely refused to let us take her class as an extra course when we were using time turners last year." Lily said.
"But it just gives us one more class to have with everyone else." I grinned.
"Cool." Nicole smiled. Her smile looked so beautiful. Stop it Remus! She'll never like you. A nasty voice said internally. But maybe she'll just give me a chance. I tuned out Nicole and Lily's conversation and kept to my own thoughts. The full moon was just last night giving me a month to not have to worry about it.
"Remus?" Nicole said waving her hand in front of my face.
"Huh?" I blinked rapidly a few times to focus on right now.
"We're here." She raised an eyebrow.
"Oh yeah." I turned into the room.
"McGonagall always lets us pick seats and will change accordingly if necessary." Lily told Nicole. James instantly took the seat next to Lily and she sighed exasperated. Sirius was trying to flirt with Kelsey who was completely ignoring him and Peter was trying to talk to Sirius. In the end I chose to sit next to Nicole.
"How's your first day going?" I asked. Darn Remus what a stupid question. You've literally been with her every single minute of her first day and know how it's going.
"Oh um it's been okay I guess." She looked down at her quill and seemed a little sad.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Why are you so bipolar?" Nicole frowned.
"What do you mean? I'm not bipolar." I protested.
"Oh really? You completely ignored me yesterday and brushed off everything I said. This morning you talked to me again but then snapped at me. Then we have this. I'm so confused. Do you not like me?" She asked frustratedly.
"Of course I do!" I said shocked. I actually really liked her but she didn't have to know that.
"Then act like it!" She said.
"Silence." Professor McGonagall said transforming from her animangus form to a human. Nicole jumped in her seat startled. McGonagall looked at Nicole slightly amused before starting. Her classes were always well behaved as you learned quite quickly she wasn't someone to mess with. Unless your name is Sirius Black or James Potter but that's a completely different matter.
"Today we will be transforming furniture into moose." Professor McGonagall began. "We just have to hope that no fights break out between them or some of us may be injured. But anyways turn to page 6 in your books." We all got our books out of our bags and turned to the correct page. The class looked up at her expectantly. "Why are you looking at me? You can read can't you?"
"I like her." Nicole whispered to me as we read.
"She's great." I smiled. The incantation seemed easy enough. However it didn't tell you how to pronounce it.
"Give it a try." Professor McGonagall encouraged. We stood up and about thirty different pronunciations of the spell came out and none of them were correct. Complete madness broke out. A few tables exploded, chickens were running around and squawking, and a few tables were dancing around.
"Oh my..." I tried hard not to laugh. With a wave of her wand everything was reversed and put back into place.
"Now take your seats again. Who can tell me what went wrong?" Nicole raised her hand bravely. "Yes Ms. Levante?"
"We had no idea how to pronounce it."
"Correct. And as you can see when you rush into things there can be destructive outcomes. Now I want you to repeat after me. Vel-doh Moo-rye-ah."
"Vel-doh Moo-rye-ah." We repeated.
"Good. Now say it smoothly. Veldo Moria."
"Veldo Moria." We repeated once again.
"Now I would like you to stand up and try it again." Professor McGonagall instructed.
"Veldo Moriah." The whole class said in sync. All of the tables and chairs turned into moose.
"Excellent!" Professor McGonagall quickly turned them back into furniture after a fight broke out. "For homework I would like you to write a two foot long essay on what happened and how to fix it for next time." Professor McGonagall said before the bell rang.
"Moony where are you trying to sneak off to?" Padfoot asked pulling on my robe as I tried to sneak off by myself.
"Nowhere." I said.
"What do we have next?" Nicole asked.
"Defense against the dark arts." I said. Everybody groaned but Nicole.
"Why's it so bad?"
"You'll see." Lily shook her head disdainfully.
