Chapter 3

The three left the house once the two boys changed out of their school uniforms. Tsuna was dropped off at the Yamamoto’s house before Nana and Mukuro went to the station. Mukuro looked around as they waited for the train. He was nervous about having someone look at his eye. He didn’t want to know what they thought of it. He knew it was odd, but there was nothing he could do about it. Mukuro held Nana’s hand looking down.

“It’ll be okay Mukuro. The doctor is only going to check to see if it was alright for you to take off the bandage, and to see if you can see out of it,” Nana said gently. Mukuro nodded lightly understanding what she said. Even then it didn’t help ease his nerves.

Soon they got on the train. Mukuro held tightly to Nana so he wouldn’t get lost in the crowd. Nana made sure he was with her as well. Mukuro looked around out of boredom, they had to stand since all the seats were taken. No one was willing to give their seat up.

After what felt like forever the train finally came to their stop. They got off with the rush of people. From there they headed out of the subway onto the streets. Mukuro held Nana’s hand tightly afraid to get separated. They walked all the way to the doctors. Mukuro was silent and terrified. When they got there Nana checked in before they went to sit in the waiting room. Mukuro hid his face in Nana’s sleeve while the other kids played with the toys. A little boy asked if Mukuro wanted to play, but Mukuro shook his head and hid more. The boy was disappointed but went off to play.

After a while, Mukuro and Nana were called back to see the doctor. Mukuro sat on the paper-covered bed with Nana staying close as they waited for the doctor to come. He was scared and nervous. He was afraid of how the doctor would react to his eye. Mukuro was looking at the tile floor when the doctor came in. Nana greeted him kindly while Mukuro looked at him afraid. After a few questions, the doctor approached Mukuro not trying to scare him.

“Can I take a look at your eye?” He asked gently. Mukuro hesitantly nodded. The doctor gently removed the bandage over Mukuro’s eye and was surprised to see a bruise and a few still dissolving stitches in a circle around the eye socket. Mukuro kept his eye closed at first. The doctor looked at Nana.

“May I ask what happened to cause this?” He asked.

Nana shook her head. “I’m not sure he had the bandage over his eye when I found him, and he won’t say.”

Mukuro was quiet gripping his pants. The doctor nodded lightly. “Alright. Could you open your eye?” He asked gently. Mukuro gulped a bit before opening his eye looking at the doctor. Again the doctor was surprised, but quickly shook his stupor off and proceeded to see if Mukuro could see out of it.

Thankfully Mukuro could see out of it, and the doctor said he could take off the bandage permanently once the stitches fully dissolved in a couple of weeks. Nana was happy to hear that while Mukuro was just happy to leave the doctor’s office. Mukuro was given a sucker before they left the office and headed back to the train station. The train ride was the same going back to Namimori as it was leaving. They went to pick up Tsuna which the brunet almost didn’t want to leave his friend. Mukuro, however, peaked out from behind Nana which caused Tsuna to tackle the five-year-old. Nanan thanked Tsuyoshi for watching Tsuna before they returned to their home.

Two weeks went by quickly and by the end of it, Mukuro took the eyepatch off, but only around the house. When he first took it off Tsuna was amazed by Mukuro’s odd-colored eye. Mukuro was surprised Tsuna wasn’t scared of his eye like he was of everything else. Nana smiled gently as the two boys played. Tsuna had efficiently pinned Mukuro to the floor so he could look at his eye in awe. Mukuro could only stare at Tsuna, surprised that the brunet had actually pinned him. Tsuna giggled looking at Mukuro’s surprised expression.

“Why are you surprised Muku-nii?” Tsuna asked, smiling brightly. Mukuro shook his head lightly, not wanting to dignify the question with an answer. Tsuna just giggled more. “Your eye is pretty.”

“How so?” Mukuro questioned, actually intrigued as to why Tsuna would say that.

“It’s a pretty color,” Tsuna replied simply. Mukuro tilted his head a bit in confusion just as Tsuna plopped onto him. Mukuro smiled lightly as Tsuna yawned, falling asleep on him. Mukuro yawned too before joining Tsuna for a nap in the sun on the floor.

Mukuro woke up startled when someone yelled. The metal top of his trident unconsciously appeared in his hand, the instinct to protect surfacing quickly. He glanced around, Tsuna was still asleep on top of him, though a blanket was draped over them. He couldn’t see the entranceway from where he lay partly behind the couch. Mukuro forced himself to send the trident top away, reminding himself he was safe. He looked at Tsuna for a moment before closing his eyes once again trying to relax. Though the loud talking was making it difficult for him to go back to sleep. Tsuna nuzzled him in his sleep. Mukuro held him, making sure Tsuna wouldn’t fall off of him.

Mukuro ignored the voices talking loudly from the kitchen. He didn’t want to draw attention to himself from the two sky’s that had entered the house. He didn’t know them, therefore, he didn’t trust them. He decided he was going to avoid them as much as he could. That meant he would only play with Tsuna in one of their rooms nowhere else, he knew that would prove to upset the younger brunet.
