End
Shawna pulled down the bottom of her red dress with hand and finished off a glass of champaign with the other.
She leaned against a wall as she watched her sisters expertly posing different looks as multiple photographers pictured.
"Hi" a male voice greeted in a slightly raised voice.
She scanned her surroundings, before settling on a man sat at a desk not too far from away; confirmation of the "hi" being directed at her.
Shawna looked towards the man, who was facing her in favour of the computer before him.
She smiled.
"What's your name?" he asked.
Shawna approached "Shawna" she said with a smile.
"Beautiful name" he replied.
Shawna grew flustered, turning away from the seated man and towards her sisters.
Thandi and Brandi briefly met her gaze an in union, shuck their heads; before returning their task.
"You know them?" the man at the desk asked.
"My little sisters" Shawna answered in a slightly slurred voice.
"Really?" he asked in genuine surprise, receiving a nod from Shawna; still watching her sisters.
"I see..." he drew out "y'all must have got your beauty from some fine, fine mother"
"Could have, but you know, our father's still a well known underwear model" she said.
"Well I didn't want to know that!" he said in an mildly irate fashion.
"It just goes to show how hard work pays off" Shawna apparently rambled; as the man looked disinterested.
The man nodded, then instantly took the chance to speak...
"You busy later?"
"Well yeah, we're doing a charity swim in the river, that's like, the reason for this photoshoot" Shawna answered.
"Really? So you're sporty?" he asked.
"Ofcorse I am" Shawna giggle "I'm team leader, I'm always with my sisters" she answered as she looked towards her sisters, who straight face glanced at her.
"So, they're younger?" the man asked.
"Six years" Shawna answered with a raised brow.
"Nice" said quietly as he nodded "you're not like them are you?" he asked.
"I'm not use to this 'beautiful party people' setup, that what you mean?" Shawna asked.
"Yeah" he replied.
"But you know what, they're total sweethearts, they're pretty much... Remember that kids series 'Sarah and Suzie'? With the sweet twin and the cheeky twin?" Shawna asked.
"Think so" he answered.
"Well, they idolized that show and pretty much based their personalities those twins" Shawna claimed "well, then they got into 'Laura Gamorah' and set their sites on fame, but didn't turn into her, thank God! That show was way too mature for little tweens, heck, I blame it for this new wave of brats who rule the roost now" Shawna claimed.
"You're a funny chick" he claimed as he took out his phone from his converse pocket and handed it to her...
"put in your number"
Without hesitation, Shawna took the mobile phone and with a slightly dazed look on her face, she complied.
"Yo, you aint got a room at this hotel have you?" he asked.
Bambi and Thandi's photo shoot ended.
Shawna toddled her sisters as they moved to her; meeting half way.
"Shawn" Bambi spoke as she looked passed her sister and towards the man at the computer.
"Drink less" Thandi said assertively in her soft voice.
"And keep away from him, 'slick Rick'" Bambi advised.
"He's a.... Pig" Thandi added.
"We work with him all the time, we know" Bambi claimed.
Shawna looked a little puzzled towards the two, she then looked back towards Rick, who failed to notice as he was busy at the computer...
"Seems decent to me" she shrugged as she walked past them.
Shawna's shoot began immediately...
It took Shawna time and a telling off before she stopped averting her attention passed the cameras - to the man she spoke with and her sisters standing over him.
"She's the one that took ages at the photoshoot" Bambi informed their mother as she pointed to Shawna, who was vigorously rubbing her face with a towel.
"So what! It's you two have to be out there mingling" their mother yelled.
"But we're running late" Thandi said as she looked on worried towards Shawna, who pulled her hair into a ponytail.
"We need to Shawna to lead and talk the tech' stuff" Bambi said.
"Just put your caps on an get out there" their mother ordered.
"Ew no, we're not wearing those things" Bambi said in disgust as she turned to Thandi, who shuck her head in agreement.
"We're not in private anymore, be professional" their mother snapped aa she harshly grabbed Thandi by the arm and pulled her away...
"Get off her" Bambi ordered as she followed the two into a corner "you're such a bad stage mum" she then added.
An un-phased Shawna pulled a tight cap around her scalp.
She looked up at the clock on the wall, which displayed 11.15am...
"I didn't even get the chance to do my routine" she uttered to nobody.
The sisters stood in an elevator.
The twins were busy in the mirror pulling their hair out from underneath their caps and creating a style.
"How long will this meet and greet take?" an anxious Shawna asked.
"Not too long" Thandi claimed.
"Just take loads of photo's and let them know we stuck around for them" Bambi said.
"And blow loads of kisses" Thandi added.
The doors opened...
The three entered into a spacious flash parlour. They moved towards the reception area.
Shawna moved to the front desk; she took a pen and hovered over the register, absent of focus.
"Yo Bam" shouted a male voice.
This caught Shawna's attention.
She turned around and looked through the gap between her sisters...
"Thandi?" the man dubbed 'Slick Rick' asked as he approached and pointed towards Bambi.
Bambi tutted whilst Thandi gave a subtle rolled of her eyes.
Shawna turned around as he now stood directly behind her sisters. She raised her hand to greet and was about to speak, but he continued...
"Where's ya sexy sister?" he asked.
"Stay away from her" Brandi warned.
"Why jealous?" he asked.
"Sure" Brandi replied with disgust and sarcasm.
"Bet she's nothing like you pair of teases" he claimed.
"Ignore him" Thandi told Brandi, or Shawna, as she turned to face the latter, who still held her hand up in a partial wave.
"Yous love yourselves" he claimed as he turned and began to leave.
"We do" Thandi affirmed quietly as she shot a glance at the retreating man, who stopped in his tracks...
He turned to face the siblings at the desk and spoke...
"I'm gonna add an extra 15lbs to your pictures" he seriously claimed with a scowl before leaving.
The sisters both looked to Shawna with a mirroring raised eyebrow.
Shawna relaxed her arm.
The three siblings sat in the back of a car, their mother up front.
"Shawna cheer up!" their mother stated as she looked from the top mirror "what did Ste tell you about talent and personality?"
Shawna failed to answer.
"Cut her some slack mum, she had a run in with Slick Rick" Bambi informed.
"No Bambi, that's, not it" Shawna sadly claimed.
"Forget men, focus on your career" their mother advised.
"I am focused" Shawna replied instantaneously "I'm so focused, I keep going over how I messed up today"
"You didn't mess up, you had a lucky escape" Thandi assured as she placed her hand on Shawna's leg.
"From a guy who wanted one thing and didn't recognise me as, me" Shawna began "who I'd never have met if I'd been training as I always do, who I may have been wiser to had I not been downing alcohol at eight in the morning, which I wouldn't have been able to do had I not been selling myself out to gain attention I don't want in exchange for a career I'm desperate for" Shawna finished.
Silence filled the vehicle.
An awkward silence, were all present, including their driver, appeared perplexed.
The siblings stood at the beginning of a small peir in their group of three, Shawna stood between her slightly shorter younger siblings.
They twins posed in a synchronised stance that effectively made a furrowed brow, binocular wearing Shawna a centrepiece.
A single photographer took a couple of pictures before a man moved them on to make way for another team.
"Put your hair away" the siblings mother bellowed from spectators area in the distance.
"No" Brandi muttered as they walked the peir.
All teams, lined up, slowly made their drop into the river.
All except Shawna, in their own way, reacted to the electric shock like cold.
She looked forward, focused.
With the combination of a whistle and a flare gun fire, they began their race.
At a evident speed, Shawna quickly took the lead, which she maintained.
Way in the distance, a series of flotation devices and individuals in rowing boats acted as a finish line.
Shawna made it to the end.
Failing to seize her momentum, she kept on going.
Dipping under the water.
Shawna resurfaced - unaware of the commotion made by those behind her; in the boats, a rival who trod water at the rope of the finish line and those far away at shore - she heard nothing.
Shawna kept on swimming.
