"No bad guy? That's just poor storytelling."

Disney are you trying to call yourself out again? Just like how you did in 'Zootopia', 'Moana' and 'Frozen?' Because if you are, it's working. That's exactly why this movie that I'm ranking next is number 56 on my list.

And unfortunately for that movie, it just recently came out and it hasn't been a year yet.

Let's talk about:

Strange World (2022)

Let's get one thing clear, this is a cute movie BUT it's a miss potential movie.

For example: you are eating some food when you notice that it is missing something and that something will make the food better. A secant ingredient!

That's 'Strange World!' It is missing something that would make this movie the next 'Up' or 'Atlantis' or 'Treasure Planet' that it so wants to be!

But, it's a okay of a film. I don't mind rewatching from this film from time and again. Like I said, it's cute, I really enjoy the soundtrack and the animation is chief kiss perfect. Same as Encanto's animation! I love it very much!

But I remember watching this film with my sibling in theaters and I think it was like...20 mins into the movie that I was like: "OH! So the movie is going to be about this." *GROANS IN DISAPPOINTMENT*

Disney I love you but I feel like you have done too many movies about family trauma and it gets old, real fast. I mean, it was perfect in 'Turning Red' and 'Encanto' that handled this trope better.

It just gets old fast.

Sometimes sticking to what you're good at and a formula that works, WORKS!

Also I can't believe it took me until almost at the end of the movie that the Strange World that the movie takes place is actually the insides of a large creature! I feel dumb.

It's Body Wars all over again.

Anyway, I really love how Ethen talks about his crush! I found it super adorable and awkward because that's how most teenagers would act with their crush! Boy crush or girl crush or whatever their chosen gender is. Still adorable.

I love them! They deserve more!

I mean I start acting weird whenever someone finds out about my crushes-

Sparky: Let me name a few and surprise they're all fictional.

Rewrite:

Anyway, we're getting off topic here. I guess the real issue I have with this movie the most is the lack of a villain.

Wait hear my out first!

Like I said before, this movie handles family trauma just like 'Turning Red' and 'Encanto' and both those movies don't have the traditional villain BUT that being said, they don't need one. But for 'Strange World', they ALMOST had a villain but chickened out at the last second.

And that character I'm talking about is Callisto Mal.

During the climax of the movie, seeing that the planet Pando is an infection attacking the creature's heart, Ethan and Searcher head back to inform the expedition team that Pando must be destroyed, but Callisto has them locked up to prevent them from stopping the mission.

After escaping, they take back the ship and it was Searcher's wife, Meridian, who showed Callisto true heart and the infection. Callisto is convinced and everyone saves the day.

Okay, so that's cool but what if....even after Meridian shows Callisto the infection, she doesn't change her mind and continues to carry out the mission causing a even more high risk for the Clades. She could be a twist villain that would possibly get redeemed, killed off or be sent to prison at the end of the movie.

I mean her name is a contradiction. Callisto is Italian for "Good", while Mal is Spanish for "Bad", meaning that her name is "Good Bad". This is most likely a reference to her actions in the film.

Callisto's concept art kinda makes her look like a bad guy.

Tell me it doesn't.

But no that doesn't happen. It seemed like that's what was going to happen in the film but she changes her mind very quickly and helps get rid of Pando.

We thought we were getting another Atlantis but this film won't reach that limit that it is so trying hard to be.

I just hope 'Wish' doesn't become a miss opportunity like 'Strange World' was.

Speaking of 'Wish'....

Please 'Wish', Please, please, PLEASE BE EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED AND MORE! PLEASE LET THE VILLAIN STAY A VILLAIN OR JUST BE A FUN CLASSIC VILLAIN THAT WE ALL HATE TO LOVE!

PLEASE LET THE STORY BE FANTASTIC AMD WHIMSICAL AND CHALL FULL EASTER EGGS THAT DISNEY LOVERS CAN ENJOY! 'WISH' DON'T LET ME DOWN!

Oh, before I forget, Strange World's forgotten character is Duffle!

Sparky: Who's Duffle, I don't remember a character named that?

Rewrite: Duffle is voiced by Alan Tudyk and was pilot of one of the ships used by the Clades to venture into the new world. He is the only character in in the film to physically die on screen by a red wyvern-like creature.

His death is most likely a reference to the Firefly movie Serenity, which featured a pilot character named Hoban "Wash" Washburn, also played by Alan Tudyk, who is killed near the end of the film.

Sparky: Oh yeah him! He looks like Fred from Big Hero 6!

Do you agree? What are your thoughts on the movie or have you seen it yet? Love hear all of y'all's thoughts as well!

Always be a D.R.E.A.M. (Disney Rules Everything Around Me)
