{5} Away From the City

{5} Away From the City
-Sam's POV-

As I fell off the roof, I watched Alex and the other Hollow fight. Alex seemed to be doing pretty well, until he nearly fell off the roof as well.

Then I had to fly. I barely managed to slow down in time before I hit the ground.

Thankfully, I didn't break anything. It just hurt. A lot. I figured there would be a lot of bruises the next day.

I shifted back to human, trying my best to stay in the shadows.

I watched as Alex jumped off the roof, and as he fell to the ground with only one wing.

Then I couldn't watch anything else, as a black something was suddenly tied over my eyes and I was dragged away.

I assumed I was in a building somewhere, since it was obviously air-conditioned. Plus there was the general noise of people.

Maybe blindfolded people parading through the building was normal, as no one stopped us as I was dragged into an elevator.

My stomach dropped as we shot downwards, faster than a normal elevator. I then concluded that I was in a government building, as they were probably the only ones to have such advanced tech.

Unfortunately that meant I was in a government building. Not great.

I was unceremoniously shoved into a chair, tied to it, and then the blindfold was pulled off.

"So," Said the unfamiliar person in front of me. "Do you know where you are?"

I shook my head.

"Then allow me to inform you. You are in the Agency, the place dedicated to studying people like you." The way he said studying made me think he meant something different.

I didn't like the idea of that, so I began trying to get out of the rope around my wrists.

He didn't appear to notice, as he went on a long-winded spiel about how I was the scum of the earth, and people like me deserved to be exterminated.

I didn't really listen after that.

Finally another unfamiliar person stepped in. This one had dark brown hair, and pale, pale green eyes. He gave me a soft smile, then turned to the other person.

"I'm here to take her down to the basement," He said.

"Ah. I didn't realize they would send you." The first one said.

"Who else would they send?" The second one walked over to me, untying me from the chair. Leaning closer, he whispered, "Don't panic. I'm getting you out of here."

Then he escorted me through a few maze-like corridors, and into a rather small room.

In the room I saw Alex's stupid face. I glared at him. The agent guy left the room a few seconds later, and as soon as the door closed, I pressed a knife to Alex's throat.

To be fair I didn't particularly need to, it just proved my point.

"Am I interrupting something?" The agent guy poked his head into the room. "Please don't kill eachother. That would be a lot of explaining. Alex, put this on." He tossed a black thing at him, stepping fully into the room. Then he said something about Alex talking out loud.

I gave up on listening at that point, and just let myself be led out of the room and through more maze-like corridors.

I guess it didn't fully sink in that agent guy was leaving, until the elevator closed behind me and Alex.

"He's not coming with us?" I questioned.

<Of course not. They can't know he helped us.> I didn't like his rather dismissive tone.

I let him lead me through the hall, only pausing when we heard footsteps coming from the same direction we were going. It sounded like a large group of people.

Probably more agent guys.

Alex sped up, pulling me along with him. We went through a door marked, "Statue Exit". As Alex locked the door behind us, the agent guys just entered through the door next to us.

<Sam! Find the leopard with wings. I'll hold these guys off.> Alex told me.

I ran off.

Gunshots sounded behind me, before the telltale thuds of people hitting the ground. I hoped Alex wasn't hurt.

I had barely found the statue before Alex and another guy sprinted up to me. I had no idea where the other guy had come from, although he looked strangely like the one Alex had been defending when I first saw him.

Maybe it was the same guy, who knows.

Alex pressed a button under the statues wing, and the statue moved.

Sure. A moving statue. I mean, why not?

It blinked and turned its head to face us. "Where's Phil?" It asked.

Apparently it could talk, too. Wonderful.

I assumed the agent guy was Phil, as that was what would make the most sense.

"He left. He said he would find us when he could," I said.

The statue nodded. "Idiot," It said mildly.

I glanced over to the new guy, then looked back at Alex. "Also, Alex, who the hell is this?" I gestured towards the new guy.

He didn't seem to notice, examining the statue as he was. I took a moment to look him over.

He was ridiculously thin, I could probably count his ribs if I wanted to. The guy had pale blond hair, which stood on end, and eyes the colour of storm clouds.

I guess he caught me looking, as he smiled. I looked away immediately.

<Oh yeah. That's Finn. He's here to help.> Alex said.

Finn waved at me.

At the sound of rapid footsteps approaching us, the statue said, "Time to leave." It bounded away, closely followed by Finn and Alex.

I wordlessly chased after them. It appeared the statue had lead us to a dead end, as there was what seemed to be a garage door. No way to open it, of course.

<There's a door.> Alex pointed out, rather needlessly.

The statue barely paused before crashing straight through the door, ripping a giant hole in it. "Now there isn't." It said.

At the statues invitation, I climbed onto its back. Finn followed, sitting close behind me.

It took a few giant steps before launching into the air, bat-like wings extending on either side of us.

Either the statue was incredibly light or it defied gravity, as we rose up into the air. Unbelievably, the statue was actually flying.

A wordless sound of joy came from behind me, and I glanced back. Finn was grinning widely, head tilted up and eyes closed.

His enthusiasm was catching, and I found myself grinning too, as we sped away from the city.
